She attended Manhattan’s Stuyvesant High School, and majored in English at the University of Virginia.
Anne has worked as a writer and editor in the field of children’s educational and entertainment media; a copy editor/proofreader in magazine and book publishing; a personal assistant to a celebrated folk musician; a project coordinator in an experimental NYC public school classroom; and a concession-stand manager at an Off-Broadway theater, among other interesting jobs.
Her published works include Christmas in New York: A Pop-Up Book and Christmas Around the World: A Pop-Up Book , both with artist Chuck Fischer (Bulfinch); and Becoming Jane: The Wit and Wisdom of Jane Austen (Miramax) . . . with Jane Austen. Anne loves strong coffee, independent movie theaters, sandpipers, small children, and expanding her consciousness, not exclusively or necessarily in that order, and has always been happiest by the water. She writes and plays, whenever she can, at the Jersey Shore.

Like many kids growing up, I had an Ouija board and a Magic 8 ball. I can remember being 10 or 11 and asking both life-altering questions. Had I met my future husband yet? Will I live a long life? Will I be famous? It was good fun late at night. While I no longer believe in such things, I will concede that there are those out there who have more intuition than most, who can read a person in ways that the average soul can’t. So I came to Anne Newgarden’s charming new memoir Adventures of a Soul: Psychics, Mediums, the Mystical, and Me with an open mind. The book reads like a conversation between author and reader. In fact, Anne directly addresses the reader often. While certainly a story about the mystical, it's also a very relatable tale about the search for love (and the resulting failed relationships), finding meaning, career bumps, family issues, and so on. In other words, life. Anne’s adventures with the mystical take you along for the ride as she consults psychics and mediums, explores past lives and delves into all aspects of the paranormal. Anne is a wonderful writer, and she takes the reader on quite an adventure. If you’ve ever been curious about the spiritual world, this is the book for you.

Anne approaches her mystical topics with a skeptic's eye and shares her often very personal findings with warmth, humor, and vulnerability. Her logical approach to the exploration of her topics put my hesitant-to-believe impulses at ease, and moreover, the book opened up a whole can of soul worms for my own exploration.

This book is quite frankly nothing short of an amazing achievement. Honest and witty, the author bares her soul and shares her raw account with the world of psychics. If I could give it six stars, I would.

You won't regret joining Anne on her adventure. She's a warm and witty travel companion who guided me to many places I never thought I would go. Her search for love and understanding in this world and the next are always full of hope.

This is a great read for anyone who is curious about the many ways people are able to commune with "the other side" - Anne is a delightful protagonist as she is open, curious and also totally aware that this is something that people might need help imagining is possible. She is honest about her findings - the things that work and the things that don't - as well as rather vulnerable about herself. And by the way, she's very funny. Highly recommend!

Adventure of a Soul is full of firsthand spiritual explorations as well as spiritual wisdom from psychics and mediums. As the author explores her spiritual self, she pulls the reader along. It’s a story of personal growth. It’s an adventure into the unknown. You will witness the author’s spiritual growth and sense your own growth as you move through each adventure. It’s a tale of spiritual exploration that reads like an engaging, funny novel.

I love this book. It was so easy to read. I didn’t want to put it down. The author did such a thorough examination of this topic. I’m sure if you read this book it will expand your mind. It did mine.
