LOTUS is focused and ambitious, and is as cunning as she is beautiful. Although she seems to have it together, secrets from her past haunt her. She despises men because of her absent father and abusive ex-boyfriend. Against her vow to stay away from men, she finds herself entangled with two guys; Alpha, the leader of the Wolves, a notorious Cape Town gang, and Dalubuhle, a gentle guy who audits the company she works for. Lotus is witty, charming and tells more lies than she can remember.
Money really does make people obnoxious. The author knows how to write deeply unlikeable main characters and still somehow makes you root for them. Lotus was cool at the start, but her character just felt strange and off by the end.
Anyway I enjoyed the book regardless so 4stars it is.
The book was one of those I can't put much into words, was lovely learning a bit about Don aka Lemon and seeing familiar characters from the sister book. Look forward to reading book two on the adventures of Lemon and his leading lady. I know book 2 is gonna have that power fire ball🔥. I trust Yvonne.
I just finished Heart In Two, and honestly, this book needs to be renamed Heart In One because my girl was always going to be Don’s girl, come rain or shine!
Finishing a book is always so bittersweet—like, what am I supposed to do with my life while I wait for book two? Will I forget the storyline? You know, all the usual fears because “outta sight, outta mind,” right? 😅 Just kidding. Don is my book husband, so there’s no way I could ever forget that crazy-coloured guy!
Note to self: block out other people’s opinions about characters or books because going into this, I was warned that Lotus would frustrate me more than Fierce. But honestly? Lotus was an angel compared to Fierce! She wasn’t frustrating at all—just a 23-year-old girl who was confused, and that’s totally valid. I mean, the last time she had a boyfriend, he dragged her through the mud, made her feel worthless, and while she’s lying in a hospital bed, he has the nerve to call her and tell her to fetch her best friend after he and his buddy took turns with her! So, I get why she’s conflicted between two guys. And if we’re being fair, she wasn’t even cheating on either of them.
Now, imagine you’re this girl who’s been through all that, living your best life, partying with your best friend at a club you’ve loved since varsity. Everything’s going great until a stranger starts sending drinks your way. By the end of the night, he walks up to your table and says it’s time to pay up for all those drinks. Anyone would be baffled, annoyed, and irritated. Like, in what universe do you think buying me a few drinks entitles you to me?
Little do you know, this blue-eyed devil is about to drag you to hell, and for some reason, you’re going to love it. His personal hell is exactly where you want to be. He gives you anything and everything you ask for, and you fall for him faster than you can say love. But despite giving you the world, he can’t say those three magic words. Why? Because the one time he did give his heart to a woman, he had to watch her take her last breath in his arms. Since then, he swore he’d never love again—or so he thought.
Meanwhile, you meet a gorgeous Xhosa man who sweeps you off your feet, but even he can’t make you forget the blue-eyed devil with the good D. Every time you get too close to the other guy, it feels like you’re cheating on that good D with a spoiled brat D. Dalu doesn’t excite you the way Don does. Dalu is there for you, while Don only picks you up for a good time before dropping you off. Deep down, you know Dalu would be the safer option—no shady business deals, no brown envelopes, just a clean, normal 9-5 guy in a suit and tie. But the heart wants what it wants, and we all know: “Good boys go to heaven, but bad boys bring heaven to you.” Or in your case, bring hell right to your doorstep.
I could go on forever about Heart In Two. It was such a beautiful read! I even sent her a DM on Twitter, asking about book two because I needed to know before finishing this one. And somehow, she convinced me to finish. Now look at me, feeling all empty and hollow! Authors are just not nice people! 😩
How could I even forget—Fierce and Elik make an appearance! And honestly, the mere mention of Elik has my tits feeling like they’re being grated because I just cannot stand him. But I will say, Fierce’s growth is so commendable. It’s beautiful to read. She’s still the same old Fierce ka Elik, but there’s this strange and lovely growth in her. The way she’s there for Lotus, playing big sister and bestie, is so heartwarming to see.
I’m really looking forward to seeing that friendship blossom, especially since it feels like Chelsea might be slightly out of the picture now.

I think in most situations we all have a choice, we might not recognize but we mostly do. If you were to find yourself having to choose between two guys, would you choose the reserved one who gives a promise of stability and peace, or the one who keeps you on your toes and gives a sense of danger? Lotus finds herself in a similar situation and proves to me that matters of the heart are far too complicated.
If denial was a person, a girl in particular, it's name would be Lotus. This girl can ignore ignore the obvious. I enjoyed how this story merges with Firces from the book 'The y in your man is Silent'. I really became excited when Fierce was brought up. I do not remember Lotus being mentioned on that book so I wonder if it was because Fierce was too busy being obsessed with Elik that she forgot to mention her to us, she didn't matter that much to her, or I just forgot but she actually did mention her. Either way, it was nice to meet Fierce from somebody else's perspective.
I absolutely loved "The Y in Your Man Is Silent" series. And I had high expectations for this book. It failed hard (from those expectations). It was nice of Elik and Fierce being mentioned in the book. I was left with a lot of questions. Why did Alpha choose Lotus? Lotus was also a lot annoying. The book club ladies say she was young. I still think she was annoying, reckless, and silly. The story was a bit too far-fetched for me. :-(. Yes, gangs are prevalent in CPT, but why couldn't the meeting between Lotus and Alpha happen differently or in a manner that makes sense. The love story between Dalu and Lotus could have been a bit stronger in order for us to actually say her heart was split in Two. The way it is here, it seems she was just keeping him on the sidelines and pitying him.
One thing I absolutely love about Yvonne is her humour, she has a very crazy sense of humour. She would make a great comedian lol.
I don’t know how many times I have wanted to slap Lotus, because of the stupid decisions she kept on making. The author has a tendency of making her female feel trapped in relationships, they never want to walk away and start afresh from these man.
She has a lot of repetition in terms of her writing style, her books always follow the same storyline or plot.
I wish one day she would write a book where a woman walks away from a man, and actually finds someone who treats her even better.
I didn’t like the ending, I felt like the inevitable is being delayed. However, I’m looking forward to the sequel.
Another great book by Dr YV. I have to admit that the book almost gave me grey hairs because of the crazy decisions that Lotus made.
Lotus is quite an interesting character and I kind of love how she does things to please herself. The lies this girl tells are out of this world. She is a risk taker for sure.
Don, now that's one character I fell in love with. As scary and dangerous as he was but I loved him for my girl. I was happy Elik and Fierce made an appearance.
I cannot wait for book 2. The book left me in awe.
A captivating story that transports you into cape ganglands, love in the face of danger and trips to the wine lands. Behind the violence and drugs is Love and life too we are all human. The tale also twists and keeps you spellbound
I remember reading this book years back when Yvonne used to write on Facebook... and it's safe to say that I wanna read it again...I love Yvonne with all my heart...and this book is a bomb ❤️👏
Lotus is just happily YOLO-ing her way through life, even as she meets Madonna and DM then boy does she make silly decision after silly decision. I thoroughly enjoyed this book
