My Life in Pieces

Rate this book
'My Life in Pieces' is a semi-auto biographical account of my life through poems and the way I have seen the world change during some of these challenging times. This book is aimed at people dealing with mental health issues, depression and anxiety. Especially over the last few years. When the world went crazy, art kept me sane.

I would describe my work as raw, relevant, and thought provoking. The pieces I have written deal with the complexities of the human mind and how we all must fight our unwanted demons in whatever form they manifest themselves. These poems I hope can inspire change, open conversations on tough topics but most importantly be relatable moments that can touch other souls.

They always have an uplifting quality no matter how dark the journey a lot of the pieces are themed around this ever-changing world, social media addiction, phone addiction, mental health, suicide awareness, love and loss and the power of healing oneself

I think this book can help in creating conversations about things society deems taboo. It may even help people to see the world in another way. Words can do so much not only to help the individual to empower themselves but can also help them find their own truth.

This book is about changing the narrative. To be vulnerable is actually a strength not a weakness. For far too long, men have had to hide away their emotions from the eyes of society and I believe that does more damage in the long run and can lead to mental health, break downs and perhaps even suicide all the dark things we go through in life are lessons that make us stronger and bring us in touch with our souls, allowing us to tap into our true spiritual side. Life isn't an easy ride for any of us, it's okay if you feel like you're going to break sometimes. As long as you can find a way back to those missing pieces you can be whole again.

With its many micro poems and longer pieces this book will be a refreshing break from social media and hopefully a warm embrace of encouraging words showing people out there that they are not alone. If these words can help just one person, then that's the greatest gift.

'My Life in Pieces' is a collection of poetry and prose about the human condition and the complex world we find ourselves in. It is moments and extracts from my time dealing with my mental health and the cathartic nature of words and writing your feelings.

This book can allow people to get away from all the noise and speed of this crazy world and just take some time to breathe, reflect and hopefully even heal. When you are in your darkest moments thinking you're going through it alone, this book is a friend to remind you that you're not alone. I hope it can be an inspiration from one warrior of light to another.

This review is long overdue! What I loved about this butterflying poetry collection was that Horner's central section focuses were on fundamental aspects of life, love, and the fangs of insane pain which are common cocoon threads we as human beings face but often struggle to fully express publicly. On top of this, he has poetry dedicated to the power of poetry basically and is a fellow poet in the community who has phenomenal creative word choices with back-to-back biting punches.

As a young woman who has dealt with nightmarish pain on all levels, tornado pools of trauma, and gruesome medical battles, I actually found the collection to be relatable and quite impactful, especially the pounds of pain section. Horner highlights tenfold poetry is absolutely a winter coat hug and that it's completely normal to feel and express our inner darkest most blizzarding thoughts and we can do so in a raw manner through for example a passion such as writing.

Concealing our feelings and bottling up screaming pain moments does us truly no good as he reiterates wonderfully. I enjoyed his poems with notes of polaroids, vampires, and seagulls, and tackling snake grass lies and deceit in relationships. Overall it's a very cohesive and emotion-soaring collection of writes.

The cover art by Michael Felton aka @squarespecs is def beautiful and you guys must must listen to his strong spoken word album 'Strong Enough To Break' which too has awesomeness in collaboration with @eleventalesmusic! I think it's super beautiful, adds another dimension, and is powerful when poets do spoken word albums to accompany their heartbeat collections to aid awareness over the waves in regards to mental health or other crucial topics in society and it's one of my faves in existence to listen to such as 'Falling for a Photo.' Horner has a fantastic spoken word voice and a unique tone overall. I'm sure Book 2 with fluttering art by Felton or any future spoken word he does will be just as rad!

“My Life in Pieces” offers a poetical take on an autobiography, delving into topics and themes that are often overlooked and unaddressed within society. Horner’s approach to depicting a raw, reflective, and deeply personal account of his mosaic of experiences can only be described a true artistic expression.

While the title can be literal, it may be deeper than that, as the idea of “pieces” may be seen as a metaphor for the fragmented nature of memories. Every memory depicted by Horner candid, with some being melancholic, and others being reflective. Collectively, these memories or “pieces” form a strong and powerful narrative.

The stand-out aspect of Horner’s anecdotes is his pure vulnerability, allowing the reader to resonate with him, whether that be sympathetically or empathetically. This leads to the reader also feeling encouraged to embark on their own reflective journey, as there is at least one aspect of Horner’s story that the reader can relate to.

To conclude, “My Life in Pieces” is both a compelling and emotive semi-autobiography, with the poetical element emphasising every emotion and feeling Horner experienced. Horner’s ability to open-up and reveal his inner struggles to the world is both powerful and respectable, which takes extremely levels of strength and self-awareness. Every moment depicted by Horner conveys a profound emotional response, allowing the reader truly understand his emotions, which is truly the essence of Horner’s as an artist.
