Gothic horror lover Cassandra L. Thompson has been creating stories since she got her grubby little hands around a pen. When she is not busy managing a house full of feral children (human and canine) with her beloved husband, you can find her wandering around cemeteries, taking pictures of abandoned things, or in the library researching her latest obsession. She has a B.A. in History and an MLIS, but she ignores her degrees to focus on writing and running Quill & Crow Publishing House, both of which require copious amounts of coffee and Crows.

Oh my, what a wrap up to one of the most ambitious series I've read! The extent of cross-cultural gods Thompson weaves into The Ancient Ones trilogy is mind blowing. The way she wraps up the story lines in the beauty of Africa, leaning into the interpersonal and cultural relationships the different gods have not only with each other but with the earth and history itself, was incredibly satisfying for this reader. I devour stories that bend genres and disciplines, and Revelations, like its two predecessors, delivers. If, like me, you are a fan of literary vampires, mythology, unabashed intelligent writing, and atmospheric pseudo-goth vibes, please pick of Revelations and gift yourself with the conclusion to The Ancient Ones. As an aside, I was Team Lucius from book 1.

An absolutely thrilling conclusion to Cassandra L Thompsons The Ancient Ones trilogy.

The Ancient Ones book one of the trilogy is by far my favorite book in the series and one of the best books I've ever read.

But Revelations is still a top tier book and Cassandra does an absolutely fantastic job of weaving the many intricate threads of David's, Lucias and Morrigan's story into a satisfying and beautiful ending. Proving she's at the top of her game in writing gothic fiction.

And The Ancient Ones trilogy should fit very nicely among the vampire classics such as Dracula and The Vampire Chronicles.

Hot on the heels of Liminality I started reading the final instalment of the Ancient Ones trilogy and I have to say, I expected more from this book.

The author have managed to create a rich world of mythological beings that roam the earth hidden from view with magic and tricks. We have gods and goddesses being reborn into humans and many which have turned into vampires that all fight for the same cause, with slightly different goals in the end. We get to re-live old loves, old hurts and maddening betrayals.

The focus of this book is the love that was (and could be again, maybe, maybe not?) between Morrigan and Lucius. While they are trying to figure out of they are meant to be or not, we also have the passionate love between Morrigan and David, that feels more pure and true.

Then we have all the other types of love angles and dramas that are happening around all of these magnificent creatures, some which we want to happen and some that we do not. Mix in some tension from a realm-destroying BBEG (Big Bad Evil Guy) and you have yourself a page-turner deluxe!

That being said, I did find myself a bit disappointed by the climax and conclusion of this story. The build-up was great, I had so many possibilities and resolutions in my mind as the story went on, all from epic fights a la Wallachia to more close quarter stabbings, yet nothing happened.
The ending was quite anticlimactic in comparison the the tension that had been building. I did feel like I missed an entire chapter somewhere that explained what happened and how they got to that decision. The mentioned BBEG got a metaphorical slap on the wrist and a stern "don't do it again, please. We are watching".
With the tension and the building that had been done, I would have expected more of an ending, heavier and to an extent, bloodier. Still happy as it was, but more. That would have been the last star in my rating.

All in all, a very good book and an enjoyable series that is easily binged in less than 30 days. Happy reading.

Revelations provides an immensely satisfying conclusion to the cult Ancient Ones trilogy, although readers will be sad to say goodbye to David, Lucius, Morrigan, and the rich fantasy world created by Cassandra Thompson.
The Ancient Ones is a unique blend of mythologies, incorporating vampires, Celts, Ancient Rome, Norse gods, the paranormal… it’s a real treat to spot your favourites in this glorious swoop over history, fantasy and romance. While it sounds like a technically impossible challenge for the writer, Cassandra Thompson is a master worldbuilder who renders the task remarkably smooth, with a skilful structure that switches between viewpoints and time periods seamlessly.
But what really sets this trilogy apart is the quality of the writing. Rich, evocative prose, never over-written but always luxurious - the writing never misses a beat, which allows the reader to be completely immersed.
Revelations can be read as a standalone, and it begins with a clear summary of what has gone before, but for a full appreciation of how the plot threads are tied up, readers will benefit from following the character arcs from the beginning.
I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. Very much looking forward to what comes next from Cassandra Thompson.

I read through the first two as fast as I could knowing I had this one as an ARC to read. The first two were really good and this one was the perfect conclusion is an epic tale of vampires, love and loss. Although hard to say goodbye to Morrigan, Lucius and David, this book does a fantastic job of wrapping it all up.

In The Ancient Ones, the author weaves together several different mythologies, including vampires, paranormal, different religions and beliefs. We visit the Romans, the French, the Celts, the Norse, and many more. Cassandra Thompson makes the characters and the settings come alive with her vivid descriptions and the structure of the chapters. Switching through time periods and viewpoints with little effort but in a way that makes sense.

Although this can be read as a stand-alone, I believe to truly enjoy this series, you need to read them in order. Following the character arcs from the beginning will really pull you in and keep you invested in the story. I cannot wait to see what else Cassandra unleashed on our world. I received this book free from Booksirens for an honest review.

Oh my goodness, Revelations was everything I'd hoped it would be! A deliciously satisfying ending to an amazing trilogy.

As with the other books in The Ancient Ones, Revelations is beautifully written, with effortless, gorgeous prose. The flow of these stories is just lovely to read, so easy without taking away from the intensity and drama that some of the chapters deal with.

The character who surprised me the most was Lucius. Whilst reading this story, I had one of those moments with Lucius where EVERYTHING I previously thought about him just completely shattered. The realisation that this person is just not who I had originally perceived them to be...well, I just questioned everything I thought I knew about them!

With a love story such as David, Lucius, and Morrigan's, there was always going to be disappointment for at least one of the brothers. And yet, I still love the climax that happened.

If you haven't picked up The Ancient Ones yet, please please do! These books challenge everything you thought you knew about gods and vampires, and all three books are just a delight to read, cover to cover!

Dark, delicious, and divine!

The Ancient Ones Trilogy comes to a satisfying end in Revelations. I absolutely loved the first two books in the trilogy, and Revelations did not disappoint! We follow David, Lucius, Morrigan, and the other amazing gods, vampires, and mythical creatures in this epic tale. I've grown to love these characters and have become particularly obsessed with Thompson's gorgeous prose. You can truly get lost in her words.

I don't want to give spoilers, but I'll reiterate what I've said in my reviews of the first two books: The Ancient Ones trilogy perfectly weaves history and mythology into a gothic tale that spans the ages. It is filled with action, romance, heartache, magic, and beauty.

If you love vampires, gods, werewolves, and other mythical creatures, make sure to read all of the installments in The Ancient Ones Trilogy.

I was given an ARC of Revelations by the publisher and these opinions are my own, but I've purchased a copy for my Kindle because I enjoyed it so much!

The Ancient Ones Trilogy ends with a huge sigh from me, with this being the last book in this series. I fell in love with this series from the start and have loved each book waiting with impatience for the next one to be released. And each time, I was not disappointed, sleepy with a book hangover but so not disappointed.
I was super excited to see what happens next with some of my favorite characters and, of course, stayed up all night just to find out. This series has a plot like no other book I've read before. It's so engrossing and imaginative. The world-building felt so real that I wanted to live in their world, if you know what I mean. The characters are so well-written that you can't help becoming invested in them.
This is a fascinating story that blends folklore and mythology perfectly. It could definitely be considered a classic. This is a must-read if you're looking for a beautifully written story to keep you up at night.
It was my pleasure to receive a free copy of this book, but that does not affect my opinions in this review of this entertaining story.

An epic story, that spans many lifetimes.

I read this third and sadly, final instalment in The Ancient Ones trilogy in two days. I could not put this book down and desperately needed to know what happens to these characters I grew so fond of, in the first two books. Although, you could technically read this as a standalone book you won’t have the same understanding and appreciation of the characters lives until you read The Ancient Ones and Liminality first. That being said, this is an epic story, spanning many lives, with gods and goddesses, love, desire, destruction and ultimately, understanding. Written beautifully and in such a creative way, using old gods and goddesses, heaven and hell, earth and otherworldly realms. This book has been an absolute treat to read. I’m sad this saga is over but it is tied up and finished in a very satisfying way. Highly recommend this epic story.

I thoroughly enjoyed Cassandra L Thompson's Revelations, the final entry in her Ancient One's Trilogy.

The world building is original and expansive with little details peppered throughout the narrative that bring it truly to life. What stood out most for me were the completed arcs for Morrigan, Lucius, and David. It's clear how much thought and effort Ms. Thomspon invested into creating her characters. She cares about each of them, and her readers will too.

Revelations is a supremely satisfying amalgam of vampires, old gods, and mythology wrapped in a dark gothic bow. Cassandra L. Thompson has written a world I was glad to escape into. She's woven a tale that never failed to immerse me in its vivid and continuous dream.

What I love the most about Thompson's writing is her vibrant poetic prose that evokes emotion through carefully crafted wordplay, and this final installment of the Ancient Ones trilogy does not disappoint. The chronology of the story is not presented linearly, the timelines being intricately interwoven where we go back and forth between the narrative's main timeline and various flashbacks. I devoured the second half of the book much quicker than the first, perhaps because around the half-way point I became captivated by the parts where it is alluded that Lucius played a role in the French Revolution. I would have loved to see this sub-plot expanded upon, I think this could be its own novella!

A perfect finish to the trilogy! Thompson ties up all the story threads she has been weaving since the first book into a satisfying, elegant ending that did justice to her unique take to her unique spin on the characters and their arcs. I love her prose and the way she continues to capture the spirit and atmosphere of gothic tales. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys dark, gothic, fantasy romance!!!

Somewhat disappointing...

Having read and enjoyed the first two books in this trilogy, I was looking forward to the last installment. This one was hard to get through.
The first part is almost a beginner's guide to the gods of mythology with bits of story in between. The plot does pick up just over half way in and becomes somewhat of a page turner. The back and forth of time and visions of the past were overdone and sometimes hard to know when the present returned.
Overall I would recommend the entire trilogy with the caveat that the last book was a let down.

A worthy ending for one of my favorite series. Thompson did her characters justice and ensured their storylines ended perfectly. Stunning prose, vivid scenery, and a perfectly paced plot make for an exquisite ending.

Now to wait for some brilliant movie studio to pick up the option on this so we can see it on the big screen!

What the author has achieved with this trilogy is nothing short of extraordinary. I found the ending to be satisfying and right, even if my own personal wishes for a few of the characters weren't realized. I can say that the vampire lore Cassandra has created with this trilogy has now become canon for me, and I cannot wait to see what she does next!

The third book in the series The Ancient Ones, Revelations has left me stunned and delighted. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to this intense, captivating trilogy. I was all prepared to accept the worst possible outcome: death and destruction, doom and gloom. But…no. All the little subplots wrap up quite neatly, and I am satisfied and happy.

Gods, demigods, vampires, demons, and the occasional werewolf. All blended together in a tale of myth and legend.
A wonderful conclusion to a very enthralling trilogy.

The Ancient Ones: Revelations is the best conclusion a reader could ask for. Favorite characters developed, grew, and received their resolutions. The addition of new characters fit seamlessly into the story, while adding yet another layer to the rich world. The depth of the characters is one not often seen in this genre and refreshing, especially when tied into the folklore and mythology a reader may have a connection to.

I finished this book weeks ago and still haven't read any other books in the genre because I'm just not ready to let the meticulously created world and deeply developed characters go. While I struggled through the first book (it took me 57 days to read), I absolutely devoured the second and third books in a matter of days. Anyone with a love of mythology, vampires, action, and adventure would love this trilogy.

Although I received an advance review copy of this book for free, that did not in any way affect my opinions in this review and rating, which I am leaving voluntarily.
