There are many good reasons to disappear from society. There are many bad reasons to want to. There are many good ways to disappear from society and there are many bad ways to disappear. While I won’t delve too deeply into the whys of disappearing, I will cover my opinions on how to disappear successfully.This essay covers what I consider to be most salient points on how to disappear and remain successfully hidden in American society.

Aus welchem Grund auch immer, in dieser überbevölkerten und schier totalüberwachten Welt unterzutauchen oder gar vom Erdboden zu verschwinden ist mehr als schwierig. Abhilfe versucht dabei der Text "Vanishing Point: How to Disappear in America Without a Trace" zu schaffen, aufgeteilt in diversen Anleitungen und Hinweisen. Und ja, dieses Heft zu lesen macht auch dann auf eigenartige Weise Spass, wenn man sich in seiner Umgebung wohl und sicher fühlt.
Geschrieben von Fredric L. Rice, wurde diese Abhandlung zuerst anonym im Internet publiziert und dann über die Jahre von diversen Kleinverlegern aufgenommen. Immer wieder aktualisiert, stellt dieser Text ein ausführliches Essay dar, mit dem man nicht nur lernt, wie Autos lahmzulegen sind, sondern wie man am besten vor der Polizei flieht. Und in welchen Wüstengebieten der amerikanischen Staaten man am einfachsten das einsame und unentdeckte Leben startet.
An der diesjährigen Art Basel "Art Book Fair" wegen der ansprechenden Gestaltung gekauft, war dies in jeder Form etwas Neues.

Good information to have, even if some of the assertions are more than a little paranoid. Are our automobiles really tracking us? Will the average person seeking to "disappear" really be hunted down by heat-seeking helicopters? Maybe not. But I've always been fascinated by escape stories and refugee sagas--the idea of having to start over, with only what you can carry.
