The Detourist: How to Get Out of Your Own Way, Find Purpose in Unexpected Places, and Traverse the Path to Effortless Authenticity

Rate this book
The Detourist tells the tale of Apenimon, a man down but not out. When Apenimon is tempted by shortcuts to the life he longs to live, he must choose what kind of man he wants to be. Will he take the easy way, or will he walk the long way to permanence?

In the interludes between Apenimon’s story, we take a look at the construction of our elegant universe. The Detourist meanders between quantum physics, the law of attraction, imagination, willpower, and scripture, tying it all together with Jesus Christ.

Whether this is your first voyage into the depths of your inner space or if you are a seasoned explorer, this book will give you an expansion of awareness and a new appreciation for life. You will discover the creative power of your thoughts, and learn how to unlock the latent potential that has long awaited you. By looking more deeply into scripture and the groundbreaking revelations of quantum physics, we will come to a deeper understanding of the teaching of Christ, Buddhism, and other spiritual disciplines.

“I have never had more clarity on my faith than I do right now.” - Mike E.

an uncommon path traveled

I have heard of this author before, and I will definitely be finding more of his work. This book was a lot more than I was expecting. It’s a story, not just an inspiring read. If you’ve ever read The Alchemist, or The Path, this fits right in.

In my 20s, I went through a phase where I read every book like this I could get my hands on. I just couldn’t get enough of the lessons learned. And although this one is more nostalgic for me than anything, there are still lessons to be learned no matter how old we get. Highly recommended.

For a person on ANY step of life’s journey.

In this book, a “bridge” from here to there is often referenced. Without spoiling the context of that particular bridge, I want to draw a comparison as this book has bridged understanding and revelation for me between books written long ago and contemporary books of the “self help” genre. A bridge between books written in parable and anecdotally while still offering tangible, practical, steps. Well done Matthew, looking forward to your next project

The Uncommon Road is Calling

After reading this book, I have learned how and why to better trust myself, and be more courageous in expressing myself without worrying so much about what the world thinks. Looking back at my life, I wasn’t as brave as Apenimon, I normally took the easier road. Through this story, I can see the life changing benefits of following the uncommon Path. I’m headed there now:)

The Detourist by Matthew Emmorey. This book makes you stop and think about what you believe and where you are going. A strong Christian underpinning which will attract those of similar interests but may put off some. The author provides insights through anecdotes and stories from his own experience in a calm thoughtful manner. He poses questions, some of them hard questions, for you to consider.

Practical steps to some of the deep questions of our life.

When it comes to finding an answer to the questions that drive us forward, (what is out purpose, why are we here, am I on the right path,) It is so easy to get “lost in the weeds” of the issue. This book can give you the practical goals to move forward with your life and accpomplish what you are looking to do.

This is my second book in The Uncommon Traveler. This is a series for people who are seeking salvation and enlightenment, on an adventure of the soul, on a quest for unconditional acceptance.
