Entertaining, funny and suspenseful, Death on Location is the fifth installment in the popular Sam Lawson Mystery series by David K. Wilson.

When the alligator-eaten remains of an 80s TV star are discovered while filming a movie in the East Texas swamps, local detective Sam Lawson is hired to find out if the actor was just an unfortunate midnight snack or the victim of murder.

However, the producer who hired Sam has a plot twist of his own. He insists that one of the movie’s actors shadow Sam to see how a real detective works. Josh Cole, known for his straight-to-cable romantic comedies and aww-shucks personality, is eager to learn and Sam soon finds he can use his celebrity status to his advantage. The two soon form an unlikely partnership that has them investigating beautiful actresses, a giant Bigfoot and a local drug kingpin. From alligator-infested swamps to a Dallas strip club, Sam and Josh retrace the victim’s final days in hopes of shining a spotlight on the murderer.

But while Sam is busy solving this murder, a serial killer from his past is lurking in the shadows… with his eye on Sam’s fiancé.

David K. Wilson grew up in East Texas, surrounded by enough colorful characters to fill the pages of hundreds of books. He has been an advertising copywriter and creative director, and is probably responsible for some of the junk mail you've received over the years.

He is also a seasoned ghostwriter and screenwriter. Currently, he lives in upstate New York, where he still complains about the cold every single winter.

I was honored to receive an advanced copy of Death on Location. Have you ever found yourself reading a book that was so interesting and intriguing that it left you with that unnerving and proverbial knot in your stomach? I was enthralled by David Wilson’s ability to take a storyline like this, scare me and yet I had to keep reading. That’s a writer with talent. I am a fan of Mr. Wilson’s Private Detective Sam Lawson. An easy character to relate. Down to earth, no nonsense type of guy. Now he is shadowed by an actor on set. What a unique idea. Loved every moment of this novel and can’t wait to see what happens next. Highly recommend DEATH ON LOCATION.

This 5th installment of the Detective Sam Lawson series is literally made for the big screen, with the murder mystery taking place during the filming of a low-budget horror movie. It even has a great built-in cast of characters, riveting suspense, masterful plot twists, and wonderful slapstick comedy and action scenes.

It was fun to see many of the prior characters returning in Sam’s current life, now an ex-police officer turned Private Investigator hired by a film producer to investigate a murder on the set.

suspense filled !

A very fast paced story that keeps you turning pages. I read it in two days because it was so exciting I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a great mystery. This is only my second book by this author, but I’m looking forward to reading more.

Enough humor and suspense to carry me to the cliffhanger ending but also enough typos and a howling continuity error * to make me not care about the next book.
*Asking one suspect about an alibi for Tuesday when everywhere else it's about Sunday. I actually started highlighting the typos along with the better quotes after a bit.
