Istoire Awakens #6

Rapunzel: A "Second Chance" Slow Burn Clean Fairytale Retelling

Rate this book
Princess Persinette, code name Rapunzel, has been trapped in a tower deep in the Wasteland for two years. Her last companion left in a desperate bid for help. Injured and alone, she's finally succumbing to the madness of her surroundings.

Persinette: As fifth in line to the throne of Spindle, I don't have the weight of the crown on my shoulders, but I do have a responsibility to my family, and my country, that always comes first. I've dedicated my life so far to studying the biggest threat to both—the arcane and twisted magic of the Wasteland. After my last mission ended in disaster, I'm stuck in a tower with no hope of rescue. The magic here is pulling me under, and as I inevitably give in, I can't help sinking into memories of a simpler time, when my heart briefly ruled my head. But when the object of my dreams shows up for a rescue, we discover that my wounded pride isn't the only thing that was keeping us apart.

Petro: The day that Persinette rejected me and our bond was the day my heart died. As the infamous Gypsy Prince, I've traveled the continent my whole life, running from a fate that I know will eventually catch up. In the last year however, I've been focused on one thing—finding Persinette by any means necessary. When a young seer from Spindle sets me on the path to my true love, I leap at the chance. Finding her turns out to be the easy part. Getting both of us back home alive is proving almost impossible—but rekindling the fire that once burned between us may end up killing me.

As Petro and Persinette seek a way home, they discover that Persinette wasn't trapped in the Wasteland by chance, and the person who wants her body and soul isn't going to give up easily.

Rapunzel is a clean fantasy-romance retelling of the classic fairytale by the same name. It is the fifth book in the Istoire Awakens series, and although it can be read as a standalone, in order to have a full understanding of the larger story of the series it is best enjoyed when read in order.

This is such a fun series to read! I have thoroughly enjoyed each book and I think Rapunzel is up near the top of my favorites. It includes a tough and savvy heroine with flaws to overcome and a handsome, strong, and smart hero with his own flaws.

Together they plunge into an adventure that forces them to overcome the issues they have had in the past and discover more about each other, deepening their bond.

The story is well written, taking you into a magical world you want to linger in, as long as you have a handsome Gypsy with you (just in case)!

I received a free copy of this book as part of an ARC team. This is my honest review, and I am under no obligation to write a review in exchange for my copy.

As always, Rebecca Fittery brought new life into a fairytale we all know well. Trapped in a tower, but by of her own free will, Persi finds a way to spend her time and maybe save their lands? Complete with a "knight in shining armor" and a unique love story, you'll want to finish this fairytale retelling in one sitting!

I love all the books in Fittery’s series that I’ve read so far. I’m a huge tangled/rapunzel fun so I loved this one.
