Joy Bartlett needs a blueprint before she takes a single step in any direction. She loves seeing what she's getting into before committing, and moving 1200 miles from Texas to South Carolina just because half of her Supper Club has doesn't mean she's going to start packing boxes.
She is terribly lonely in Sweet Water Falls without Bea, Cass, and Lauren, and as another member of their monthly dinner party gets ready to leave Texas in the rear-view mirror, Joy starts creating her own blueprint.
After all, she doesn't want a Blueprint for Survival.
She wants a beach blueprint.
One that lays out how her life will look and feel, right down to the tiny nooks and crannies if she decides to uproot herself and leave her family and her heritage and join her friends on Hilton Head Island.
There is a strong influence in her life, pulling her toward the beach and island a sexy, strong landscaper named Scott Anderson. He's asked her out several times, but Joy has turned him down every time.
When she hears that he's going to take someone else to dinner, the thought flies against everything in Joy's baby beach blueprint - because Scott's a big player in that. So she texts him and makes it clear that she doesn't want him to go out with anyone...except her.
Thus, a long-distance relationship between Joy and Scott begins, and Joy's blueprint starts to get messy. Very messy.
Can she figure out how to arrange all of the pieces in her life in a way that makes sense? Or will she find herself cut off from everyone who's ever been important to her?
3-time USA Today bestselling author Elana Johnson writes adult contemporary beach romance. Unless it's a sweet-and-sexy cowboy - read those under her pen name of Liz Isaacson. Or an emotional, heartfelt women's fiction novel - read those under her pen name of Jessie Newton.
I liked the story. Parts of it made me smile. There was a certain dynamic between the friends that I often didn't understand. I guess it's because I have never had that many female friends at one time.
I would definitely recommend you read this series in order. I think it would be too confusing to start with a book this far into the series. Even having read the other books in the series, sometimes the number of characters and their relationship to each other was a little confusing.
I did like that Scott and Joy seemed to be so fond of one another and were happy to be together. I did think Joy pushed the HEA early on in the relationship, before Scott had reached that point.
Joy had a major decision to make about her life and it was obvious that it wasn't easy for her. The one thing I did find irritating was the number of times her "blueprint" was referred to in this book.
The pace was slow and steady. This was a sweet, clean romance that I guess you could say was a feel good book. There wasn't a ton of angst, but there was that dynamic among the Supper Club women I could not put my finger on. It sometimes felt like they were on edge and a person needed to tread carefully.
Scott and Joy ultimately did reach their HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Joy is a true Texan down to her toes. But when her girlfriends begin migrating to Hilton Head, SC for love and a new life, she feels left behind. It seems that people are always leaving her and her sense of self worth is suffering. When she first visits Bea and Cass at in their new lives, she is introduced to Scott. She finds him very attractive, but he doesn't pay much attention. During a later visit she learns that while he is smitten this time, he remembers nothing of meeting her before, which does nothing for her ego. He asks her out, she declines - several times. He decides to move on, then when she learns he has a date, she texts him saying she doesn't like that at all. That sets off a flurry of texts and calls over the next three months until she visits again. Sparks fly after that, although she's still hesitant to take the leap. The story is fairly predictable from there on and they do end up together. There are a few surprises along the way and of course the girlfriends all offer their two cents. This series is about the deep friendships among women who have known one another for years. If they were a bit less sweet and a bit more spicy, I believe they would be much more believable. But overall, a quick and good read.
The Supper Club ladies are back! The fourth book in Elana Johnson’s Hilton Head Island series , is the story of Joy Bartlett, a divorced mom to grown sons and grandmother to Holly. Joy is divorced after a difficult marriage where she was emotionally abused by her ex. Slowly, Joy is getting her life together. She’s feeling a bit lonely though as her best friends are moving one by one from Texas to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, as they meet their husbands. Joy has been secretly talking to landscaper Scott for months, but the long distance is an issue. Joy is such a planner and needs the perfect blueprint for her life before she considers leaving her kids and everything she’s known, to join her friends. But sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan.
I really enjoyed the journey of Joy and Scott as they figured things out. Elana’s characters are well thought out and the ladies are so supportive of each other. A great addition to the series. It can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the first three books and getting to know the ladies of the supper club.
A special thank you to Elana Johnson for the eARC I received.
The fourth installment in Elana Johnson’s delightful Hilton Head Island series, this book follows a group of 40/50-something ladies who forged a strong bond when they started a Supper Club back in Sweet Water, TX. As they begin to migrate to Hilton Head, you can almost hear the ocean waves rolling as you immerse yourself in the story. I’ve enjoyed each of the books in this series, and this one didn’t disappoint. Elana Johnson’s characters are so warm and so real that you’d like to jump into the story and join their Supper Club yourself. She has a way of inviting you into the story, and whether the characters are teens or older adults or somewhere in between, they are endearing and with the help of their friends, they always work through their issues in time for the happily ever after ending. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! I received this book as an ARC reader and this is my honest opinion.
Goodbye Sweetwater Texas hello Hilton head South Carolina. Another great addition to the series of middle-aged women reinventing themselves and finding true love. The story focuses, mostly on Joy and Scott and their long distance relationship. I felt so in tune with Joy and the trials she went through with her former husband, I was so happy that she found someone that will treat her right. Scott is a dream. The romance is sweet and touching and I love all the support that these women give each other. There are also lots of updates of everyone in the supper club. there was a little bit of a slow down during the middle but it’s so worth getting to the end. I think this was one of my happiest endings so far. I give it 4 1/2 stars.
This is such a fantastic addition to this wonderful series. I love the wonderful characters in this series, and the storyline that seems so real. I love this story of Scott and Joy, I also like how Joy really put thought into what she was doing and not moving to quick, but I was so excited when she finally figured out how she really felt about Scott. I love how we get to hear about all the friends throughout this book as well as the others in this series. And I felt even more into this story as I have just returned from my trip to Hilton Head Island, Beaufort and Savannah all mentioned in this book. I highly recommend this story; it is so wonderful and draws you in.
A wonderful addition to this great series. The Supper Club is slowly moving from Texas to Hilton Head Island. It’s now time for Joy to make her decision about a relationship with Scott and if she is going to make this move happen. Joy needs to have a blueprint of the direction her life is going to take before she can commit. Scott is extremely patient and is willing to do whatever it takes to give Joy the time and space she needs. This is a lovely book depicting the development of a remarkable love between two very different people. The enduring friendship among the Supper Club ladies is wonderful. I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
Starting over is never easy. Particularly when there’s emotional baggage and scar tissue to overcome to get there. Both Joy and Scott have been burned by relationships in the past. But even though they’re a little hesitant to try again, there’s just something too powerful in the pull between them to resist. I really liked this pair and I really enjoyed seeing how they handled their family dramas that came up. Now that we’ve got nearly all of the ladies of the supper club happily matched up with their perfect partner, I can’t wait to see where the author takes us next. I received a complimentary advance copy of this story from the author.
This is such a wonderful read. Joy is feeling lonely and feeling left behind as one by one her friends are leaving to head to Hilton Head Island for love and romance! Joy has a secret and he’s called Scott but Joy needs everything to be perfectly worked out before she can do anything but life is never perfect and nothing goes to plan. It was wonderful following Joy & Scott as their adventure starts out and they try to work things out. It’s a difficult journey for Joy especially after her abusive marriage but the support she gets from her friends is remarkable and so so sweet and it’s a great addition to the series.
Great story This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
Scott is so wonderful. He is patient and supportive, and clearly telegraphs his feelings for her.
Joy is so insecure. She needs to study her blueprint before taking the next step so she's sure it's the right step. This idea of moving South Carolina was not part of her original plans. Add this new romance..
I love that the main characters' friends and (most of) their families are so supportive. I closed the book with a happy smile.
Joy met Scott when she was in Hilton Head to see her friends in the Supper Club, he asked her out twice but she turned him down. Then she texted him and they've been in touch for several months. Now she's back for Christmas, and has more feelings for Scott, but isn't sure about making the move to Hilton Head, Scott has a landscaping business so can't move. Joy likes everything organised before committing.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This is the story of Joy who belongs to a supper club, you can read the 3 books that this follows, but if you don't, you will be able to catch up just fine, if you DO, well you get to see how the others are doing, which is amazing. Joy is a surviver from a traumatic marriage and divorce, so she is gun shy for a relationship, Scott has never been married, but is the kindest and most patient man. I loved this slow burn book so much. if you are a fan of clean romamce with characters who are not young and have been through a bit of life, this IS the book for you. LOVED it!!!
Joy struggles a lot, both with her romance with Scott and how her life is changing but also with being left behind by her friends who are all slowly transitioning to Hilton Head Island. Can she take that leap of faith into a different future or will she stand in her own way? Scott meanwhile also has family issues to contend with. Very enjoyable story in a lovely setting with lots of interesting characters and animals.
The Supper Club ladies are finding love in Hilton Head. One by one they are moving from Texas to NC. Joy meets Scott who has a landscaping business. They are crazy about one another. However, she has school and family back in Texas. Joy also had a very bad first marriage and brings that baggage to the relationship. Are they able to work out all their issues? I like that this series uses women who are in their 40s. I received an ARC of this book and am giving an honest review.
I had an Advance Readers Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Joy Bartlett needs a plan in order to go forward with her life and a possible move to Hilton Head Island with her friends and where she met and is dating Scott Anderson. As their relationship develops it becomes increasingly harder for them to be apart, but she has to think about her job and her sons and grandchildren. Another uplifting book by Elana Johnson featuring friendships, relationships, and trust.
This was a good addition in this women’s fiction with romance series. I really do like the dual locations of beachy life and Texan life. I enjoyed the learning these adults do on their own and together and the real world and life problems they face. I’m looking forward to more beachy goodness.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Absolutely loved reading The Beach Blueprint. It was great catching up with all the girls from the Supper Club. Can’t wait for the next book in the series. Wonderful characters. Such loving friendships. Highly recommend!
I'm so enjoying this series about a group of women in a supper club who become family to each other. I loved Joy and Scott's story. These two are so good for each other. I always enjoy this authors books and anxiously await the next books in the series.
Fun continuation of the series of Supper Club friends. Joy needs to have a plan for her life, and Scott just wants to have fun. Love finds a way and we get to see the friends and how their lives are going. Read them in order for more fun! Clean romance, some fun humor, great family dynamics.
Clean romance with all the feels. Relationship challenges include long distance and overcoming past hurts. Also includes a wonderful support system of friends. Excellent read.
I just love the close friendship between these 6 women. Most of all so close, they want to move across the country to stay together. Love this series of books, and highly recommend.
As a planner, I could relate to Joy’s desire to have a clear blueprint for her life as she considered the possibility of leaving her kids and all that was familiar behind in order to join her friends in Hilton Head, SC. One important piece of the puzzle was her relationship with Scott whom she had been talking with daily online for months and where was that going? I really enjoyed watching Joy figure things out and decide just how much of a blueprint was necessary before she could take the leap and make a permanent move. My favorite parts of the book (and the series) concerned the relationships between the women in the supper club. Oh to have such a wonderful group of friends who have become chosen family! This author really knows how to bring a sense of family to life. I can’t wait for Bessie’s story in the next book (please hurry Elana). Highly recommend! I received an ARC and this voluntary review contains my honest opinions.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 Joy is in her late 40’s, a divorced mom to two grown up sons and granny to Holly. After a difficult marriage where she was emotionally abused, she’s got her life together. Only problem is her best friends are moving one by one from Texas to South Carolina as they meet their husbands! Joy’s been secretly chatting to landscaper Scott for months, but the long distance is an issue. Joy needs her plan in place before she can move, but can Scott be that patient?
𝗠𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 This series falls into the “feel-good fiction” genre. They offer clean romance between the main characters who meet later in life. In this story, both Joy and Scott have had difficult relationships in the past, and are grateful to have found love with each other. I have read the previous books in the series, and enjoy the special role the friend group plays. The stories interlink as each of the friends support each other. I don’t recommend reading this as a standalone story, especially since the other stories in the series are very heartwarming as well! 💗
Read an eARC copy courtesy of the author Pub day 23 May 2023 My rating 4/5 - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
I’m really enjoying the Hilton Head Island Series, and The Beach Blueprint is a great addition about the Supper Club. Joy Bartlett likes to have a plan before committing (I can relate!), but her growing relationship with supportive and patient Scott Anderson just might change that. This is a great mix of well-written women’s fiction and well-paced romance. Ms. Johnson writes stories with realistic relationships better than anyone. To fully enjoy these books, I’d recommend reading them in order. 4.5 stars
We get to go back to Hilton Head Island. I love seeing each of the friends throughout this series. Many of the friends of already moved - will Joy finally give Scott a chance and move too? Loved Scott, he is definitely on the book friend list. She grew on me. I thought he gave way more than she did. The ending was super sweet and a great set up for the next to books - or hopefully more.
