As a 23 year old, and a recent grad looking for my purpose and passion in life, this is a truly inspiring story how good times, bad times, and all the time in between are opportunities for growth. It gave me a unique perspective on how taking risks in life that may be unsettling at times but there is likely a great purpose to it all. I cried throughout various parts of the story and could embody the character’s emotions through the authors writing. Just a great story overall!
A great story about how a young couple from the big city came to the open plains of South Dakota to work with Lakota youth for what they thought would be a brief stay before settling into the traditional American dream. However, a mission greater than climbing the corporate latter and settling into the burbs would set them on a completely different course. This story delves into their time spent adapting to working with a completely different culture, how their mindset changed as they began to find deep meaning in the relationships they had built. This story brings to mind Proverbs 16:9 ..."The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps." A great reminder to anyone that the twists and turns of this life and can be wonderful if you seek to find meaning beyond the measurable!
This is such a sweet story! Heartwarming, funny and sometimes sad, this is a book about some people who wanted to care for others... but got much more in return than what they thought they would give. In the process, they found their place in the world.
