The El Dorado Trilogy, Book 1, 1846-1849: It should have been a walk in the park. Thorough planning, sound outfitting, and faith would make it so. But the preacher hired the wrong man to take him to Oregon Territory, and that will cost him a wife. The Cheyenne say it was prophesied. The Catholic priest calls it the will of the Lord. As for the bourgeois at Fort Laramie and the army sergeant posted there, they care not whose fault it is. They are just glad to have the pretty woman stop by. Winner, Eric Hoffer Book Award for Legacy Fiction, 2010. Recommended reading, Southwest Education Classes, Adams State College, Alamosa, Colorado, 1996.
I don’t recommend this book. It is weirdly written. It had gaps and dropped people in without introducing where they fit into the story. Also, people dropped out of the story line only to reappear in a different context or unbelievable way. I don’t think it was intended to be part fantasy. It dragged on to the point I skipped the last fifth of the book to read the last page. I can’t recall that I ever did that with a book.
