CONTROLLING HVN WITH A FIRM HAND ALLOWS HARVEY TO MAKE SWEEPING DECISIONS THAT MIGHT NEVER ACHIEVE CONSENSUS IN A MORE DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM.

Harvey has no computer in his office.

Harvey was born in 1940.

He tries to identify with ordinary Australian's by living in outer Sydney and has his office at Homebush West.

He is famously mean, spending as little as possible on everything he buys.

6/10 franchisees dont make it through the training stages. He weeds all weaknesses out.

Developing a culture of passion in any business is an absolute must.

He charges nothing upfront to be a franchisee.

He doesnt do market research - he works on gut feel.

HVN's advertising campaigns are often funded by suppliers.

When a franchisee leaves he has nothing to sell.

A franchisee, regardless of success, can hold only 1 HVN franchise.

Reward drives performance.

Varying the rental costs for franchisees is a powerful tool for HVN that exists because the group owns its own shopping centres.

Resist trends that dont make sense to you.

Harvey regrets the missed opportunity of office products (ie Officeworks).

Business leaders generally fall spectacularly from grace when they lose tough of the ordinary life.
