In my world, you don't ask for want you want. You take it.
MIKHAIL
My father built an empire, and he gave me the tools I needed to take over one day. Power. Instinct. Ruthlessness. Now that day has come, and my first order of business as Pakhan of the Sokolov Bratva is marrying the daughter of Egor Baranov, sworn enemy of my family. The last thing I want is to play house with some spoiled ballerina, but I'll do whatever it takes to protect my father's legacy. Annika Baranov is about the learn that when I'm the one giving orders, everyone falls in line. Because I was born to rule this city, and there was only ever one way to do it -- with an iron fist.
ANNIKA
My path was always clear: escape Las Vegas, move to New York, live happily ever after as a professional ballerina. My father had other plans. Even for a man as cruel and calculating as Egor Baranov, handing your daughter over to a hardened criminal to suit your own business needs is low. But that's exactly what he did. Now, I'm at the mercy of the heartless Mikhail Sokolov, a man I know I should fear and despise, despite my heart -- and my body -- insisting the opposite. But I've spent my life being controlled, and I won't bend to his will. I won't let him own me. Even if part of me wants him to do just that.
***Ruthless Heir is the first installment in the Sokolov Bratva series, an enemies-to-lovers, forced marriage mafia suspense novel.
Mikhail will be next Pakhan once his father dies. His father tells him he's to marry the Bartanov Princess- Annika. Mikhail's family and the Bartanov's are sworn enemies but he accepts because he knows he must do what is best for the bratva.
Annika is a ballerina who had dreams of going to New York to college. She doesn't want to get married but once she meets Mikhail she changes her mind. She's attracted to the dangerous mafia man... and he's attracted to her too.
I thought this was an alright mafia novel! It wasn't dark- but it was very rambling.
safety: virgin heroine kidnapping/arranged marriage no OM/OW no cheating/sharing HEA ♡

This book has warnings for murder, kidnapping, and arranged marriage. If you can't handle this then this book is not for you. This book is about two mafia families. The daughter of one family is promised to the son of the other mafia family. The daughter Annika is not happy to be promised to Mikhail the son of the other mafia family. Annika and Mikhail becomes very close and start to grow a relationship as the you read the book. Mikhail's dad dies and that puts him in charge of the family and all that goes with it. I really enjoyed reading this book because it has a lot going on and the plot moves at a nice pace. I recommend this book but I will tell you that it is a cliffhanger. I recommend this book.- Kristina
This is the first book in the Sokolov Bratva Series and starts the series off with a bang. No shortage of danger, drama or fast action. As with most mafia romances there is no shortage of steam or control. Mikhail is the new Pakhan of the Sokolov Bratva and in order to end the feud of their top rival he has to marry Annika, the daughter of their sworn enemy. This book will pull you in from the first page and you'll find it hard to put down. The chemistry between the two was amazing. They were actually perfect for each other which is rare in an arranged marriage. I read a free advance reader copy via Bad Boy Updates and voluntarily chose to review it.
Forced marriage mafia romances have been my absolute favourite thing in the world to read lately and this one was no exception. It was just such an engaging story full of twists and turns and I had the best of time reading this book. This was just such a good story that was nicely developed and that had very good characters and a very lovely romance, that I really appreciated.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion
I skipped through a lot of the book. I feel like the author adrede to much information we didn't need to know. I liked the story. I don't know if I want to read book 2, yes it does end on a cliffhanger. But I kept reading this book thinking okay I will give it a chance. But it just didn't capture me.
The ballerina and the Bratva badass... Loved! Mikhail was the perfect fierce and brooding hero, Annika was his sweet prize, and this tale kept me up until the wee hours. More, please!
Roma James is a new to me author and I am definitely looking forward to reading more of her books in her Sokolov Bratva series. She has created some absolutely amazing characters in this first book of the series.
This is Mikhail and Annika’s story and it’s definitely an intense one. Annika is a dancer who just wants to escape her life and go to New York and dance but sadly her father has other plans for her and that’s offering her hand in marriage for strength and power. Mikhail is about to take over his fathers empire and become the next Pakhan. He’s ruthless, heartless and powerful. Their families are sworn enemies. But their chemistry is off the charts.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s got lots of twists and turns and can play with your emotions at times. It has a bit of a slow start but don’t let that fool you this book is definitely a must read. And that ending…..yeah definitely can’t wait for the next book in this series. Definitely recommend!!!
Conclusion I got from this book: 1. the h was very horny. She hated the idea of marrying stranger, ran away, got caught by said unwanted fiancé, then next day she wanted the H to touch her and fck her. They slept together straight away. Very soon enough the h was infatuated by the H although they didn't talk to each other that much and didn't see each other a lot too, just sometimes when the H brought her her meals.
2. Too tame for mafia romance book.
3. The ending. wtf was that?! and the next book was about another people? not going to read the next book, that's what I'm sure about.
4. They didn't seem in love, more like in lust. Didn't see enough 'love' scenes, bonding scenes between the MCs.
Riveting, ruthless. love when give is never revoked by the Bratva Pakhan
Mikheil has just become the Pakhan of the Sokolov Bratva and his father raised his right, he knows that his seat will be constantly subjected to threat but with his men’s respect and their loyalty they will hold and build on all that his father has left behind.
The las command of his father was that he was to marry the daughter of their enemy Egor Baranov, his father and himself always believed that he was responsible for the death of his mother and wife to the Pakhan five years earlier, a brutal and totally unnecessary killing from which nothing was gained.
Annika has done everything possible so that she could please her parents and yet they have never hidden the fact that her mother hates her father and he carries on with anyone younger, he has no time for his daughter and yet he has promised that she can have her dream and go to New York with her ballet skills.
She has just been told her dream is over and that she is to be married to their enemy Mikhail Sokolov, she has only just turned nineteen and she decides to make a run for it never expecting the subsequent reaction from her intended. He descends like an avenging angel and shows her in no uncertain terms what it means to be the wife of the Pakhan, the longer he knows her and watches her he realises how intelligent she is and that they could be a force to be reconned with, what neither expected was to fall in love.
However, there are those that are determined to ensure that she never makes it down the aisle and her father is secretly planning to ensure that the Sokolov Bratva become the strength in the city, unfortunately he never considered the intelligence and the fact that his daughter Annika once crossed never forgot or forgave. A more well matched couple could not have been born for each other, his father was well known for his foresight an like Mama Katja he had seen a bright and strength in his son and future wife.
Read this amazing story I guarantee that like me you will have to read it in one sitting, I now cannot wait for the second book in this series. I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

This Is the first book in the Sokolov Bratva series be warned if you aren’t use to mafia books then not sure you should start out with this one so buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, so gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, arranged marriage, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love (ALL THINGS TO EXPECT FROM THE MAFIA WORLD). By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter! CAN’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED!!!!!! We know that the girls in most mafia families have one job to be married off by their father’s to better the family position wise. Annika intelligent, a dancer trying to escape her life to dance in NY so to say she is upset is an understatement because she has been promised to the son of another family for strength, for power and she isn’t happy about any of it. Mikhail sexy as all get out new Pakhan of the Sokolov Bratva who just took over for after the death of his father, with a reputation of ruthless, no heart, powerful and in order to keep the or stop the feuding between two top families he has to marry his enemy’s daughter, but she isn’t happy about the idea of marrying him and to be honest she isn’t his first choice considering her father is his sworn enemy. So she did the one thing she knew to do RUN….she ran but with him being trained most his life to rule knew and when he caught her, he put her in another beautiful cage but what they both realized in getting to know each other is that there is attraction and the more time they spend with /around each other the more they grow to sort of…kind of learn to like each other but the more they fought each other the closer they grew but she hasn’t given up on her family until one day she goes home only to discover her father is worse than people thing he is truly evil and she does inform Mikhail but that didn’t stop her from given to another mafia man but her man wasn’t having any of it and if war is what it takes to get his girl then war is what will be but will it go that far, will he get her back unharmed, will her father get what’s coming to him, and can these two have happiness?.

What a gripping intense Mafia story! This is a nail-biter, page-turner, mysterious, suspenseful & comes with surprising twists. Witness the inner workings of the different Mafia groups, their weaknesses, strengths & power struggles.
Annika’s dream of being a famous ballerina is dashed when her father promises her hand in marriage to Mikhail, a future Pakhan, in order for the Sokolov & Baranov families to be melded together. When Mikhail’s father passes away, Mikhail is the new Pakhan. Even though Annika is still a stranger to him, he vows to protect her & rescues her when some men kidnap Annika. Is this a test of his power or is there another reason for this kidnapping?
When she is in a secured room, with no way of escaping, she accepts her fate of marrying a stranger, becoming a Mafia wife & her dreams of a ballerina are destroyed. Mikhail brings her meals & there is the spark between them. She is thrilled & excited to be near the bad boy Mafia alpha guy as she gets more opportunities to learn about the charismatic fiancé; his softer side no one is a witness to & what makes him tick as a Pakhan.
I was intrigued when I read the synopsis of “Ruthless Heir”, choosing to read this one as I like mafia-themed alpha hot men & their strong women who don’t back down. As Roma James is a new author to me, I wanted to read a new author’s spin of the Russian Mafia. Very surprised as to how different her style of writing is & how she pulled me into the story right from the beginning. This ends as a cliff-hanger which will keep me hanging on until I can get to read the next novel to find out what happens next! An excellent start in this mafia romance of the Sokolov Bratva series.

Roma James is a new to me author, and after reading Ruthless Heir, yeah, I'm in love with her writing. Mikhail's father is about to pass on the baton to his empire, so his son (obviously Mikhail) is about to become the Pakhan to the Sokolov Bratva. One of his first orders of business is to marry Annika Baranov to settle a feud down, but Annika isn't at all happy about it so she goes on the run. See, this girl's first love is ballet, and she had certain plans for it but her father didn't care & has been lying to her the whole time. It doesn't take long before Mikhail catches up to her so the battle is on. I do wish that our heroine had fought a bit longer but you know, her new husband is the one for her. Of course there are dangers around every corner in their world so the twists are coming in hot all over the place & I was on the edge of my seat. Oh, and the heat was on point as well. I thought things were settling down when BAM! I was wrong so all I know is that I need the next book in this series but I'm confused as to how it will all play out. Anyway, any crime family lover will love this book that I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I love this new series with the Sokolov Russian Bratva. Mikhail soon to be Pakhan to his father’s Russian Bratva is a hard and ruthless man, but he’ll obey his father until the very end. His last wish was to see him married to the daughter of Egor Baranov, sworn enemy of my family, Annika. Poor Anika her family has lied to her whole life and when she finds out about the marriage contract, she takes things into her own hands. What a fast-paced story as we see Mikhail go after his runaway bride, bring her to his home, held her prisoner and keeping her at arm’s length. What he doesn’t expect from the spoiled rich girl is her stubbornness, her ability to stand up to him and demand he lets her into his world. This book does end in a cliff hanger, and I can’t wait to see where this story goes next! I love Mikhail and Annika, I love she has become fearless especially Annika as she learns how to Mikhail’s perfect wife in the love, relationship and as his Bratva Queen. This book started off a bit bumpy for me- I'm not an overall huge fan of dual POV that's in the third person...it feels a bit disjointed. I also did not totally buy the whole premise at the beginning where Annika was basically trained as a ballerina her whole life, her friends picked for her and then suddenly that's all been a lie (kinda Truman Show-like). However, once Mikhail entered the scene and their story truly got underway I liked the book a whole lot more! Annika, to her credit, runs off once she finds out her whole life has been a big pack of lies and she's being forced to marry Mikhail (who really doesn't want to marry her either). Mikhail finds her, locks her in a room and basically Stockholms her into wanting to be with him. So check the triggers because the premise is not for everyone, but that's why we read fiction- it's not something condoned in normal life. The book does end on a cliffhanger and I'm excited to see what's in store for book 2!.

They didn’t like or want to be with each other, but because of the families they had to be. Annika has always wanted to be a ballerina, and thought when she was old enough, her parents would allow for her to go to New York to school. When she finds out her father shot it down and told her she was to marry Mikhail, the heir to the Sokolov family. Mikhail has the heir to the family, was doing what his father asked of him, before he took over as the head of the family. When she ran he followed and caught her, caged her and she was finding she wouldn’t mind marrying him and he came to the same conclusion. They fight, make plans and grow closer together, when Annika goes to her parents houser she learns that her father is truly a evil man and takes what she learned to Mikhail. They both take care of her father and get married only for Annika to be taken again. Now Mikhail is waging war and heaven help who ever has her.
I absolutely LOVE finding new to me authors. Especially when it's an author that brings everything to the table and that's just what this author does. Mikhail and Annika's is intense, intriguing and suspenseful. Mikhail Sokolov is the Pakhan of the Sokolov Bratva and Annika Baranov is the daughter of his sworn enemy. Together these two take us on one more wild ride. Mikhail is hard, ruthless and extremely powerful. He's a take no prisoners kind of guy. Then there's Annika, more often than not, women of the Mafia are not much more than "tools" used to bargain or gain leverage. Annika is a very different story. She's strong, stubborn and fierce as they come. While this book had a bit of a slow start it wasn't far in and it picked up and took me on a journey that had me on the edge of my seat until the final page. Who am I kidding? I'm still on the edge of my seat. Their story ended in a little cliffhanger and I can't wait for the next book in this series!
Great start to a new series. This is the first book I have read from this author and I am hooked. It is very fast-paced and will leave you hanging at the end! Mikhail and Annika are from rival mafia families. Mikhail is set to marry Annika, but before this can happen, Annika runs away. Mikhail is stubborn, dark, and fierce. He shows no mercy and shows no fear. Annika is innocent and doesn’t realize her family and friends have been lying to her about her future.
Mikhail is pissed and sets off to find his future bride. Once she is found, let the fun begin. Will Annika be able to adapt to Mikhail’s lifestyle? And will Mikhail be able to show his bride compassion? There are a few twists and turns, deception, betrayal, secrets, and truths! I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Mikhail is next in line to take over the empire his father built. One of the deals his father worked out was who Mikhail was to marry, Annika Baranov. Annika has no clue about this deal and is actually counting down the days until she can get to New York and continue her studies in ballet. When she is told just what her real future holds for her, she runs as fast as she can, but she is quickly caught by the men that work for Mikhail. Now Mikhail has to deal with the fact that she ran and has to teach her just who runs things.
This was a fast-paced story filled with everything you would expect in this type of read; danger, violence, kidnapping to name a few. My only issue was that Annika was supposed to be this naïve sheltered girl, and then bam she is a freak in the sheets. That didn't add up for me; I did however love what she set out to prove and that she was a bada**. The ending has me diving into the second book ASAP. I give this 4 stars.
Annika is a ballet dancer thinking that she is on her way to New York to study. However, her father has other plans for her, and she isn't going to like it one bit. She is to marry someone she doesn't want or know. So, she waits for everyone to go to bed and sneaks out to get away. Yet when her car breaks down its not long before Mikhail finds her. Mikhail's father made an agreement with Annika's father and that's how their marriage was arranged. Sparks fly between them whenever they are together. Yet its not long before things heat up between them. Will Annika join forces with Mikhail? Can he keep her safe?
This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy. I can't wait for the next installment.
I have enjoyed Roma James' SEAL books and now I get to read her Bratva books. This is the first of four and it was an exciting read. I think her descriptive writing adds much to the plot and characters. I liked how Michail Sokolov was devoted to his father even to his choice of a bride he'd never met. After his father died, he searched for and found Annika once she bolted after she found out her father had been lying to her about taking a skip year to intensely prepare for moving to NY to advance in ballet. So she's the daughter of the hated Baranovs whom Michail suspects killed his beloved mother a few years ago and he's the one holding her prisoner. Is there any hope for this pair to be a loving couple? This book has a plot that keeps the pages turning even to a cliffhanger lead-in to the next book! Recommended.

This was a awesome book to read, the story was exhilarating and the characters were sensational. I loved the storyline and the characters were coming to life. Annika Baranovs always dreamed of being a Ballerina, always going to the school until she was told that she is engaged to be married, after having dinner that night she disappeared. Mikhail was trying to make his father happy before he goes, Mikhail was told by his father Vasili that he will be married to the Baranovs girl to join the two family's his not happy but Mikhail will do as his Pakan his father asked of him. There was so much action and his fiancee made it so much more with sassy attitude. Can they learn to live together.

This is the 1st in a new series, and this is Michail and Annika’s journey. Michail is ruthless, powerful, and heartless, and the day has come for him to take over as Pakhan from his father, and he must marry the daughter of one of the sworn enemies of his family. Annika just wants to lead her own life as a professional ballet dancer, but her father has arranged for her to marry for his own business gains. Will these two be able to move on from enemies / lovers? This is a well written story which has suspense, danger, action, intrigue, twists, emotions, and is a thrilling and addictive page turner, which had me on tenterhooks throughout. I received a free copy of this book via Give Me Books and the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Riveting and Passionate! Riveting from the get go as the reader quickly learns that Annika’s father has lied to her her whole life and what she thought was her future was a fairytale to which she was viciously made to face. Mikhalil on the other hand was fully prepared for his future knowing he was to take over as soon as his father died. He also was made aware that his bride was to be Annika. Twists and turns throughout the storyline kept me on my toes with an unexpected cliffhanger at the end. This certainly makes me looking to book 2, Brutal Commander. I’m definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment, pleasure and satisfaction. PEACE.

Ruthless Heir is a dark enemies to lovers tale between Annika Baranov, a dancer whose dreams of becoming a professional ballerina are destroyed by her father due to a planned arranged marriage to his greatest rival, and Mikhail Sokolov, the new Bratva Pakhan who is to marry Annika for peace between their rival families. When Annika flees the marriage, Mikhail finds her and brings her back. What starts out as a rocky relationship turns into a steamy romance. This great dark mafia romance has danger, suspense, mafia violence, and steamy passion. The next book in The Sokolov Bratva Series is Brutal Commander.

So this is the first book I’ve read by this author. Oh my goodness, what a brilliant read. The description of the scene draws you headlong into the world of the Sokolov mafia and all it’s dramas. The pictures painted by the author were like watching a film. Absolute genius!! Mikhail is the heir apparent to the Sokolov Bratva, Annika the daughter of the enemy to be used as a pawn. If you like your hero’s totally alpha, sexy and bad, and your heroines strong, smart and beautiful, this book is for you. Enemies to lovers, Mafia underworld, drama, suspense, sexy steamy scenes and OMG the cliffhanger!!
I’m off to read book 2! I love a good book series and this one had the makings of an exceptional series.

That was not good. Too descriptive. Character building is not existent.
3rd person pov always confuses me at first. Then, I get used to it. And I followed it normally in this book. So that's a good point.
The amount of mood description was excessive. I had to skip things.
We went from I just met him to I wanna fuck him, from you will never be my partner to her place is by my side in like two seconds without showing how we got there.
The Armenian part was so weird. It doesn't make any sense at alllll.
To force you to check the second book, the epilogue is a cliffhanger. Smh! Now, I did read the first chapter of the second book, and the resolution is there. But the force reading aspect is not something I liked.
