Revital is an executive for a bio tech firm. She is kidnapped and held captive because she is the only one that has important information. The information contains secrets to a top secret program from her company. The Viper wants Revital and the knowledge she holds. Viper is a terrorist that wants to use this project for his own purposes. Jonathan is the son of the company’s CEO. He is tasked with rescuing Revital and keeping their secrets safe. A techno thriller that takes the reader to Egypt and Moscow. The suspense plot is engrossing and the action is thrilling.

A very welcome new novelist on the literary scene!

Israeli author A.M. Elia (the pen name for Ayelet Moalem Elia) has served as an elementary English and music teacher, a composer, and now is a business administrator and construction projects manager for hr won company. THE VIPER CODE is her debut novel, translated from the Hebrew by Maya Thomas.

Making an indelible impression with a mastery of language too seldom seen in debut novels, Elia captures the imagination as she opens this engrossing story – ‘The fierce November showers came as a surprise. Revital was tossing and turning in her bed, listening to the torrent of rain as it pounded against the windows of her 18th floor apartment overlooking the sea…This wasn’t the first time that Revital’s sleep was disturbed. She’d been experiencing sleepless nights of late. Revital got or of bed and walked over to the vast windows of her living room. The view was exquisite – the bustling city on one side and the sea on the other…Revital fixed her eyes on the sea - an act which usually managed to calm her down. Unfortunately, on this occasion the waters were as turbulent as her mind…’

Having set the mood for a mysterious romance and adventure, Elia gradually unwinds her story as follows: ‘She’s an executive with a highly classified secret. He’s the CEO’s mysterious son. He’s coming to save her, but she’s not going to wait around to be rescued. Revital never thought her classified executive job at a bio-tech firm would get her drugged, kidnapped, and held at gunpoint. The men who took her want to bring her before “The Viper” – the fearsome international terrorist. He wants something, something to do with her company’s top-secret project. Something that only she knows. It all started when she met Jonathan: the charismatic and enigmatic son of the company’s CEO. His charm is enough to make any woman swoon, and even Revital found it hard to resist his advances. But there is something else behind his eyes, something dangerous and knowing. As he comes to her rescue in a daring operation, something else becomes perfectly clear – that man is more than meets the eye.’

With well-developed characters set in an informed contemporary tech environment, Elia has created a novel that suggests a new career is ignited. Solid writing reveals a rich imagination capable of mesmerizing the reading audience, creating a demand for more books to follow! Recommended.

I received an advance reader copy of this book, so it didn't have any of the about the author stuff. It took quite a bit of digging through reviews to find out that this has been translated from the original Hebrew. I feel like the translator is either not a native English speaker or not a writer because the style and flow is severely lacking and some bits probably just didn't translate well.

I don't understand the relationship between Revital and Jonathan. Is it instalove? I don't know. There's no chemistry. The sex scenes are short and really not sexy at all.

The action is a little convoluted and overly violent at times. Not trying to spoil anything but pretty much don't get attached to many of the characters.

Finally, we get to the end with the showdown between the evil mastermind and it just skips forward. There's all this buildup and then oh hey they defeat the bad guy. The End.

This was really a struggle for me to get through. If you are able to read this in its original Hebrew, that might be a better option.

I have voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a complimentary copy.

A good book to read. Only review that may not be so positive is cutting short the storyline and possible action sequence written fot it. The write jumped straight to an epilogue. That part toward the last kidnapping and everything being set right, and Johnathon is about to go Jason Bourne on their asses it's cut off...NOT COOL!

The Viper Code: A Fast-Paced Espionage Thriller

I enjoyed reading this book up to a point. It was fast paced, but I was rather disappointed at the end
