Kingmaker Saga #3

The Ghost Tower

Finally reunited with his friends, Terran faces a blight which threatens the health of Mother Tree.

As they hunt down the source of the rot, each of the companions struggle to find their place within the group. Together they learn that their world is not the new home for their gaming minds that they expected, but one with a long dangerous history. If they cannot sniff out the cunning traps that have been laid before them, then they'll end up like everyone else who has been thrust into these troubled lands—dead.

Everywhere they turned our group of young heroes find rot which was destroying everything, a rot fiend was destroying the newly awakened forest and Terran and his friends had gone to tackle the problem. However the rot and decay problem was more widespread than they had first envisaged and it seemed as though someone was behind this destruction. Terran became very concerned when he planted a new seed and the tree that grew had decay and rot on it right away and he feared that the rot would attack the Mother Tree. The people of Gneiss Glen were scared, their whole community was at risk and thus their very own lives were in danger. However Terran was not called the tenacious for nothing, he never gave up and though he took his friends into danger when they travelled to the desolate plains, to seek the ghost tower and the necrochanter who dwelt there, they risked losing their lives as Grimchar was the strongest and most ancient foe they had faced so far but they all watched each other’s back. So could Terran and his team save the mother tree? I love that Terran also takes time to help Flynn, his friend to acquire a class, as being without a class was depressing him, and that the whole group support Terran. Zara is impulsive but her berserker class is important, and Newt’s knowledge comes in handy time and time again. All in all the group including Luna of course, is very well balanced and work very well together. Whilst seeking help in the town of Salt Lake from a much needed arborist the group started to realise that there was more to this world they were living in then they had been told. They had been lied to, this was not a new world but one full of ancient characters who seemed to all bear a grudge towards offworlders. I love the way this saga is unfolding, this book is a bit darker than the previous books because of the death aspects and necromancy in it, but I love dark fantasy and am looking forward to the next book!

BRILLIANT!

This was a fantastic story; building more on characters we already know and love (or love to hate!) and as always, the descriptive world building is utterly BRILLIANT!!!

I am not a gamer or a LARP person, I am a reader who plays occasional board games like Catan, and I can assure you that you get quickly get used to the presentation of "character points".

It otherwise reads like a great fantasy novel, but the characters have an awareness that they are in a game (with tantalizing hints and tidbits as to where their 'actual' bodies are!!), and if killed can return to where their most recent nominated "respawn" points were.

As someone who adores the fantasy genre, I found this whole series an exciting new way to enjoy reading really well written fantasy in a painstakingly carefully created world, peopled with amazing beasts and beings alike.

You could read this book alone, but whole series is highly recommended to get even more enjoyment out of it!

A kick ass book you won’t be able to put down.

I love everything about this series. From the setting, the fantasy, the characters and mystery, the guessing of what’s to come next and the twists and turns. It’s a perfect LitRpg series. Read from the start for the best experience.
