Just when you think you can finally catch a break… Murder comes calling. It’s a glorious spring in Blue Valley, Tennessee, and amateur sleuth, Alice, and her loving hubby, Luke, have just enough time to go on a babymoon before their new bundle of joy arrives.
Since it’s only a few weeks until the due date, their little getaway will have to be local—and fortunately, there’s a great spot just around the lake from their own home. The Barnaby Estate, a newly-restored collection of lovely cottages, is the perfect place to go for a romantic bit of R and R.
Alice is looking forward to sitting by the water, fishing, enjoying all the amazing food on the menu, and relaxing on the front porch of their cottage with a stack of good books.
When Miss Hattie, the diminutive owner of the estate, goes sleepwalking one night, it puts an alarming series of events into motion—and soon after, it becomes all too apparent that a murderer is on the loose.
Before they know it, Alice and Luke are descended upon by their entire group of friends, and what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend getaway has turned into twisted mystery fraught with unanswered questions, a legendary treasure, and plenty of danger.
I love visiting Blue Valley and reconnecting with Alice, Franny, Owen, Luke, Michael and Ben. I enjoyed meeting Hattie and learning about the new resort on the lake. This was a well paced crafty cozy mystery with just a few twists and a limited suspect pool that kept me turning the pages. A lovely afternoon read and I hope there will be more to come in this series.
This is such a cute series. This book joins the others in engaging readers with the excellent writing and interesting storyline. It made me want to help find the killer so Alice and Luke could enjoy their babymoon. The solving of the murder uncovered an unexpected killer. A very enjoyable read.
Alas, the 16 book series I started several days ago has come to an end. Sigh.
Alice had her baby in this one during a rather inconvenient time…with a gun on her and her entourage. Then again, it’s pretty normal for Alice to be in such a dilemma.
I am sad to say goodbye to Blue Valley, Tennessee where I’ve enjoyed every word and the feeling of home.
I’m onto a new adventure directly after this review. I believe I will now read an Amish themed series. Yes. By Emma Schwartz. First book in my chosen series is “The Amish Inn”. See you in the next review!
I really love this series!!!! It starts off with Owen and Granny gifting Alice and Luke a Babymoon at the Barnaby Estate in Frogmore Cottage. It happens to be across Blue Lake from their house on the lake. It is opening weekend at Barnaby Estate for honeymooners only, but things don't go as planned for Miss Hattie Danvers that had bought the Estate and is finishing the renovation. She had just moved there 2 weeks ago. After her guests arrive and assigned to their cottages, they are on the back porch sipping, iced tea asking about the folklore of secrets of Barnaby Estate. Miss Hattie says it's not true any of it. And she is busy trying to run off a homeless man. Well, someone doesn't believe it. Alice discovers that Miss Hattie sleep walks and this is where it all goes from pleasant to weird and scary. There are guests not who they say they are and it's up to Luke and Ben to find out ( and of course Alice, Owen, Granny and Michael) all get involved to catch the person. Now you have to get the book to find out what is going on!!!!
Only Alice and Luke could go on a special getaway babymoon before Baby Evans arrives and land right in the middle of a mystery, right? Soon the whole gang was there and while there wasn't a murder this time, it was nearly a murder they were asked to look into. The showdown was pretty exciting and should teach that perp not to mess with a momma who's not had her baby yet!
Needless to say, everything turned out great ending in a fun group setting like this series is so well-known for. Just loving the fact that it's continued this far!
Alice and Luke take a local babymoon at local estate before the baby arrives. It supposed to be a relaxing time until the owner is found sleep walking at night which leads to a potential murderer in the loose.
Will they be able to figure the case before Alice has her baby and another body is found? Alice and the gang cannot seem to have trouble follow them.
Awesome book. Lots going on with Alice & friends right in the middle of it all. Well written with great characters & a beautiful setting. I hope there will be many more!!
I like this series. I love the characters who are best friends/family, love the setting, love the story line. I feel like I am right there in the book. Can’t wait for the next one!
Love this series and can't wait for the new addition. Alice and Luke are on their babymoon when the owner is hurt and they are determined to help her out and find out what really happened.
