CHASING GHOSTS OF LEGENDS PAST: BASEBALL IMMORTAL: Book 2

Rate this book

BOOK 2 of the BASEBALL IMMORTAL TRILOGY has now been released!
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED HOW IMMORTAL SUPERSTARS FROM BASEBALL’S PAST WOULD FARE IN TODAY’S GAME? ROLAND COLTON’S NOVEL ANSWERS THAT QUESTION . . . OR DOES IT?Is the man who wakes up in a present-day Georgia hospital, after suffering a near fatal hit-and-run accident, truly the legendary Ty Cobb (who has been inexplicably transported forward in time), or is he a man suffering from severe psychosis and delusions of grandeur, who has hi-jacked Cobb’s identity as his own?

Book 2 of the Baseball Immortal trilogy begins where the first book left off, with Cobb constrained in a psychiatric ward, under the care of an unscrupulous psychiatrist who wishes to exploit his patient for his own research and fame. Book 2 chronicles Cobb’s improbable return to the Atlanta Braves where he reinvigorates the game of baseball, propelling it to new heights not seen in decades, through his reckless, outrageous and stellar play, including his assault on records never thought to be within modern-day reach. With Cobb on the field, anything can and will happen as Cobb’s psychological warfare engenders resentment and hatred from opponents and even his own teammates.

Numerous action sequences on the field of play, never seen or imagined before, depict events that will startle and enrapture the reader. Cobb is attacked in bars, attempts are made on his life, he becomes a fugitive from justice and he is suspended multiple times for his retaliatory and headstrong play.

In Book 2, more clues emerge that lead Savannah Cain, the beautiful and talented sports journalist who befriends Ty Cobb, to suspect that Cobb may actually be the supremely talent college baseball star, Chase Ripley, who disappeared near the same time as the hit-and-run accident. Book 2 races toward a thrilling climax which sets the table for the final book of the trilogy.

Buckle up for the ride of your life!

Chasing Ghosts of Legends Past: Baseball Immortal by Roland Colton is a fast-paced enthralling read which is not to be missed. The story follows the incident of a man who experiences a near death accident and wakes up in a psych ward who he believes is the legendary Ty Cobb or is he simply delirious or experiencing time travel. He pushes back the challenges and does what he is best at and loves the most, baseball. Once back in the game he smashes record after record and sets new heights for the game. But not everything is as simple as it seems. There are people who hate what he does, and he soon finds a target on his back.

I am a big fan of the game, and the series provide me a big dose of entertainment and enjoyment. The series are a haven for any baseball enthusiast and the author's work is excellent. The setting of the game environment is so lively and is full of drama which is top notch. Ty's character breaths soul to the game and makes the storyline all too captivating. Highly recommended for the baseball fans or those who enjoy a great sports story.

This book isn’t only addressed to baseball lovers but also to anyone wanting to enjoy a good book despite the fact that it’s focused on baseball.
This story continues with the same protagonist as the first installment in the trilogy and I’ve to say that he evolves enormously from one book to the other. I think it’s best to read book one first since the characters are already presented and developed at the point that we meet them.
The plot is absolutely original, I mean, wake up in someone else’s body after an accident is a great idea!
The action is fast-paced and the intrigue is constant throughout the whole story. It’s highly engaging.

A great book for baseball fans

CHASING GHOSTS OF LEGENDS PAST: BASEBALL IMMORTAL written by Roland Colton is the second book in the trilogy called “Baseball Immortal”. To understand this book clearly and completely, it is better to have read the previous one because this one starts right where book one finished. It is not a short book but the author gave it a good pace and I have never felt the story slow or dull. I was completely entertained from beginning to end.
If you like baseball, I really recommend you read this book because it has accurate information about the game - I must say I learnt many things. The book is enjoyable and intriguing, so I would totally recommend reading it!

A Must Read For All Cobb Fans

Wow! What a spectacular ride! Colton captures the excitement, the breath-taking genius, the sheer chutzpah of Ty Vobb, baseballs GOAT, and inserts him into the modern-day game beautifully! Ever wondered how Cobb would react to a shift? How he'd take advantage of video footage of his opponents to get better reads on them? How his daring baserunning would fare today? How about whether he could still hit .400? Read this book, as well as the first in the series, The Return of Ty Cobb, and see for yourself!

It’s fiction! Crazy story but so interesting and hard to put down 😃 The story of the first season continues and I can’t wait to get to book three. Enjoying how the personality traits that made Ty Cobb the player he was in the early days of baseball tend to betray him in modern times. His determination, will to win, crazy luck, personal prejudices and poor choices both drive and plague him in the present. Immensely enjoyable.

Watching modern baseball games, before the pitch clock was started, there would be time between pitches when announcers would discuss other aspects of the game. One ongoing topic that popped up from time to time is how some of the legendary players of the game would fare against modern players, especially modern pitching. Author Roland Colton took that a step further with a trilogy of books titled Baseball Immortal. In this series, he brings famed player Ty Cobb forward in history about 100 years to see how he would fare.

In the first book, The Second Coming of Ty Cobb, Colton set up the idea that Ty Cobb is in an accident and wakes up 100 years later. Or is it him? Befriended by journalist Savannah Cain, she starts to dig and wonders if the second coming of Cobb is actually a college sensation who disappeared. The book ended with a bit of a cliffhanger as “Ty Cobb” was released by the Atlanta Braves and ended up in a mental institution.

Chasing Ghosts of Legends Past picks up right where that one left off. Savannah finds out where Ty is being held and gets him sprung pretty quickly. With the help of her brother, Calvin, they manage to get him a second chance with the Braves, provided Calvin takes over the position of manager. The book spends a lot of time with Ty trying to make up for what a jerk he was in the previous book. He’s learning to adapt to this era where things are very different than what he remembers. Savannah finds herself falling for him, even as Ty laments missing his wife and children from an earlier time.

On the field, it’s Ty having success after success. I’m not sure how realistic that is, except for his baserunning. The excitement Colton describes when Ty is on base seems similar to how this current season is playing out with pitchers limited to how many times they can throw to a base and hold the runner on. This part is strictly for fans of the game as I doubt anyone unfamiliar with baseball will be able to understand all of the ins and outs of the game, and there are a lot of them. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend this series at all to anyone who doesn’t have a strong grasp of baseball.
