Dame Jilly Cooper, OBE (born February 21, 1937) was an English author. She started her career as a journalist and wrote numerous works of non-fiction before writing several romance novels, the first of which appeared in 1975. She was most famous for writing the six blockbuster novels the Rutshire Chronicles.
This book is sweet, simple, elegant and timeless, just like Jilly herself. There's a good reason why I have read all of her novels more than once. This little anthology of British poetry is beautifully curated by someone who is deeply moved by the art, and celebrates love with all the majesty, humour and sadness that the English language and the British Isles can bring to bear. I'm not normally a poetry buff, but I can recite a few couplets and drop a few allusions based almost entirely on introductions from Jilly Cooper.
