“Does anyone know who this little chick belongs to?” Hannah sets out to help a friend who is lost and on the way learns about the world around her. She meets lots of different creatures while on a journey at the hippo pools.
Another very sweet picture book from my friend, Nancy. I did not, in fact, read the Afrikaans version, but for some reason it is not letting me add it as a paperback. It is a lovely story about a young hippo who is happy to relax with her mother until she finds out that another creature is in need. She rescues it, a chick, and then sets out to locate the lost little one's family. She checks with a number of bird families before she finds that the chick belongs to a finfoot family. She returns the chick to its grateful parents before returning to her own family comfortably wallowing in the river mud. Not only is the tale sweet, but the illustrations are beautiful--all true to life drawings of various African birds. I'm a bit of a bird lover, so the illustrations are especially satisfying!
