Frances Ellen writes YA fantasy stories full of magic and adventure, action and jeopardy, sacrifice and betrayal, deep bonds of friendship, and a light touch of romance. Her first series describes a world where humans with exceptional affinities for specific traits, the Affinites, led by a magical elite known as the Asters, protect humans from the ever-present threat from Dark Kings.
The Asters are a diverse group of teenagers, magically and culturally, whose adventures take them to all parts of the world, both above and below ground, filling a gap in the YA fantasy genre that Frances wanted to read but couldn’t find. The idea for the Asters first came to Frances on holiday aged 15; building the legend, history, characters and events of the Astersphere, in her head and on notes, consumed her spare time ever since. In 2021, the Aster Prequel Novella trilogy to the main series was first published.
Frances is currently working on the novels in the multi-book Asters Original Series, with the first expected to release in late Spring. You can read this book without reading the novella series before, however i do recommend reading those before this book series to help you understand the world building and magic system better. It Also explains the events that happend before this book.

This book is full of action and the series just keeps getting better and better. You got alot of diverse characters, some you hate, some you love. The storyline is compelling and really drags you in.

What annoyed me most about the novella series (constantly calling eachother brother and sister instead of their name) is still here in this book, but fortunatly its alot less.
Sophie is still a annoying smart ass, and sky still his arrogant self.
Jacob also coudnt stop hidding his awful personality anymore, he is just a character you wish would disappear.
We also got to know the queen in this book and let me just say, i love her! She is amazing and a really good addition to the book, she really kicks ass. She also told Sky his arrogance was going to get his killed, and guess what, it did.

Firstly, thank you to the author @FrancesEllen_ and @BookSirens for the ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A while ago I read and reviewed the #Aster prequel series and it was fantastic. So I’m hoping this is the start to a new wonderful series!

The dedication! “For Peggy”
I have a Peggy - she’s one of my miniature wire dachshunds 🥰

Now in case you’ve forgotten or you’re new to this #BookWorld our asters are
Nathan - Affinity of Flora
Sky - Affinity of speed and Flight
Sophie - Affinity of health and knowledge
Matu - Affinity of Strength
Lian - Affinity of analgesia (doesn’t feel pain)

Holy guacamole! For YA this is daaark in places! And I am loving it.

Okaaaaay! Wow.

I don’t even know where to begin, I would definitely recommend reading the Asters prequel trilogy so you have a real feel for the characters as this one is a fast paced read and there’s lots going on but I think you could read it as a stand-alone but the prequel trilogy is 🔥 so read it too!

I really enjoyed this book, the twists and turns kept me on my toes and one of the MCs was totally not what I was expecting.

The writing style is easy and flows so well that you’re sucked into the Asters world and feel like you’re along for the ride in their missions!

Oh and Nathan? Get iinnnnnnn!!!!

I cannot wait for the next in the series to see where the story takes us.

Another great read from Frances Ellen.

This was the first book I read of Frances Ellen. Like she said in her pre you can read this book as a stand alone however I would tell you it’s a lot easier to read and understand if you have read the other 3 books of her (at least I assume) There were some part’s that were easy to understand and some parts where I wish I would have read the other books first so I would understand them)

I think it’s a bit hard to read cause there are almost no paragraph in any of the chapters. And sometime the way its reads switches from 3 person limited omniscient to 3 person objective (not the reading style I enjoy reading).

If the story didn't switch as much between styles and more paragraphs it would have been 5 stars

The story in itself is nice to read. There are some school aspects, some family quite a bit of magic (and I also liked the way the way magic was used.) Overall a nice story to read if you don’t mind the way the story switches between reading styles (at least it’s how I interpret it)..

"Intentions and what truly happens are two very different things."

FROM FURY REBORN BY FRANCES ELLEN
Rating: 4 stars

From Fury Reborn is the first book in the Aster Original series, but before you start this one you'll have to read The Aster Prequel Trilogy in the order, A QUEEN TO COME, A WORLD TO LOSE and A THREAT TO REMAIN for better understanding.

I was so excited to start this book after the way the last book ended. I wanted to know so badly what happened. This book had me at the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it. The plot twists just kept on coming and left me in complete shock, but I loved every minute of it. SO MUCH HAPPENED.!!!!

The world building is very intriguing and captivating. The writing is pretty simple which makes reading it even more easy. I flew through the pages.

The best part about Frances Ellen's books is the type of diversity she has brought into her books.
Every reader will feel belonged and in a way connected to their own culture.

I was so happy to be back with the Asters. The friendship, love and care between the five Asters just gives you such a warm feeling. They way they are always there for one another.
I really missed the banter between Lian and Sky.

If you're a fan of fantasy books with great action, amazing plot twists and friendships to die for then I definitely recommend this series.

Thank you @FrancesEllen and @Booksirens for sending me a copy of this book.

Okay so when I say this book had everything I wanted in a fantasy, I am not even joking.

There were so many characters that I adored in this book.
First we had Nathan, who was possibly the most understanding character of them all, he was calm and thoughtful no matter the situation he found himself in.
Then we had Gayle who quite simply, was an absolute badass and definitely wasn’t what I was expecting. While reading you can see that she’s been moulded but her trauma and no matter how hard she tries to pretend, I definitely think she has layers that need peeling back to reveal who she truly is, and not this heartless persona she displays.
I also really enjoyed Sky, with his playboy exterior but caring interior. Matu, who had some complex and difficult emotions but you could just see he was hurting. Lian, who was, in my opinion, the most loyal. And Sophie, who I definitely struggled with purely because of how much I loved Nathan 😭

The story was fast paced and interesting from the very start, some of the plot twists I did not anticipate in the slightest and I was left gasping, like did that JUST happen?!! The writing style suited this story so well, it was perfectly written to capture and keep my attention.

The magic system was fantastic in this read, the way they used their magic and how they all had something different was very appealing to me.

Overall it was a very well-built world, with extraordinary friendships, loss, magic and plot twists that were out of this world.

Highly recommend.

BOOK:FROM FURY REBORN-A FOUND FAMILY,ACTION PACKED YA FANTASY BY FRACES ELLEN.
BOOK REVIEWER:OKOKO AYEZU TAMARAPREYE.
SYNOPSIS:
A sports and magic YA book and poetic style fiction on history and about the groups of Asters,Disciples,Kings of the under world and Affinities(who has an indigo specie said to inherit magic from both parents) depicting the Asters fight with disciples who had soldiers and farmers. The Asters and Affinities soldiers try to keep the humans of the world in the story safe from the dark(the ark) Kings that ruled the seven territories of the underworld. In this story the Asters and Affinities are saddled with the responsibility of keeping the human world safe from the dark Kings that ruled the seven territories of the underworld, right underneath their feet.We see the plight of the Asters in the story as some didn't have children or died before having them and the killing and taking hostage of Asters by the South American king. There's is also an attack of the Asters like Sophie and Jacob by Disciples. Our protagonist in the story is Nathan who is one of the five Asters of the world together with his brothers by magic,Lian,Sky,Matu withstand the disciples who wanted a capture of Nathan alive.Nathan is also seen trying to save his mother,Rose from the disciples. In the story Nathan,Sophie,Sky ,Lian and Sophie's mother are Asters under the training of Jackson Kelly while Finn,Charlie,Jacob are Affinities just as Queen Aiyana's army. From Fury Reborn coined from the words From "Fu(Ijaw for death) RY(pronounced as RI for eat(sound as "it" in ikwerre) Reborn" is about the Disciples delibrately attacking animals and killing them;bear(be err) traps the Asters were avoiding and getting past;the mystery girl(geh El) who attacked disciples, Affinities and Asters killing them and the attack on Affinities in the Amazon Rainforest even as the death(debt) by the girl is explained as a response to provocation and torture of animals by Disciples. The story probes into the cause of Affinite death(debt) at the Amazon amidst the difficulty of proving which Affinity was killed by Gayle or the Disciples. The tension in the story leads to Nathan's parents not wanting Nathan to save them but to leave her and his father behind and find safety away from the environment. The story looks at the history of both past and present Asters of health and knowledge looking at Sophie (so-ph(acidic level) and Aster Henry Deighton who turned dark(turned the ark).It raises questions whether girls get attached to who they slept with ; whether in risking life the life of one that had already lived mattered more as a solution;and the importance of knowing history to prevent a reoccurrence.

LESSONS LEARNT FROM THE STORY READ
🔥That there is a difference between friendly game and real competition as in one lives depended on choices made.

🔥The Asters not being weakened by the death(depth)of their future queen teaches courage.
🔥Verbal abuse hurts as much as the physical.

🔥Sex and promiscuity is preaches against in the reference to "Rememberance day " for remembering who you slept with and a day to shine(shhhhhh mother(murder).
APPLICATION OF LESSONS LEARNT
Personally I think all lives matters in consonance with the right to life even as I think all lives should be preserved from death(depth).I guess this explains the sanctioning of the offence of rape which excludes consentual sex and sex deprivation(taking in consideration of spouse health) in a marriage.

*LOTS OF SPOILERS DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT THE STORY RUINED FOR YOU*

So having read the 3 prequel novellas I knew alot of background on all the characters and also knew what the main plot for this story would be. I'm really glad I did as I definitely loved having a connection already with the Asters.
I found the prequels quite repetative but this was a step up from those entirely.
I found the story quite slow paced but I found it worked in this book as any faster paced it would have felt rushed whereas this felt perfect.
I love the relationships in this book- Sophie and Nate especially but I'm also really intruiged to find out more about Sky and his old childhood friend as I have a feeling she may be an integral part of the story in the upcoming books ( I think she may be Gayles enemy; Kyra but I could be wrong!).
I loved Gayles character. Her trauma has changed her into this person that no one wants her to be and she couldn't care less as long as she doesn't have to be associated with the Asters or anyone with magic unless it's for her own needs. I absolutely adored her except for when she blamed Sophie for her mothers death.

Overall I loved the book and found it a much needed step up from the prequels!
I'm desperate for book 2 now!

5/5

And I'm back in the Aster world 😉

Where...do...I...begin?

The Asters - Love, love, love them. They really were like siblings with all the bickering they were doing 🤭 I kinda missed all the banter that usually went on between them though. It was so good to be reading about them again.

Nathan.... 👌🤌 about freaking time dude 🤣

Ok I need to talk about Gayle now, She is one scary girl 🫣 and I'm not sure if I like her or not. She may grow on me in the next book lol she also had me shouting at my book at one point 🙈😂 "SOPHIE TRIED, BACK OFF BITCH" yeah glad it was only my mum that heard me 😂

'Both Sky and Lian watched Gayle and her cats. It would've looked horrific if it hadn't been so wickedly fantastic'

As always Frances done an amazing job on this series 👏
The writing ✅️
The world building ✅️
The plot ✅️

every bit of this book is worth it 👌 The whole series is just... 🤌🤌

I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading this book. I was completely shocked by the plot twists that kept occurring, but I enjoyed every second of it. SO MUCH JUST HAPPENED.

The world-building is fascinating and engrossing. Reading it is made even simpler by the writing's simplicity. I skimmed the pages quickly.

The level of diversity that Frances Ellen has incorporated into her books is its best feature.
Each reader will have a sense of belonging and connection to their own culture.

I was overjoyed to see the Asters again. You can't help but feel warm inside because of the camaraderie, love, and care shared by the five Asters.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Overall the plot and story telling went smoothly. However I did not like that it was said to be first in the series and then once opening the book it suggested to read the series it was spun off from first. I continued to read this book and it was very interesting. I didn’t feel the need to read the pervious series. The world building was very detailed and the magical elements are very unique. I do plan on later reading the other series and continuing with this series. There was some parts that dragged or became overwhelming at times with the scenes at the time. Wish I could give it a half star but I can’t on this app. If you enjoy strong world building then this is the book for you.

How many times can a person be shattered before they break entirely?

Pieces from the prequel series come together fully and start to reveal the full picture of what happened that fateful night. Not everyone who died is actually dead, and not everyone dead were killed by who the Asters and the others thought they were killed by.

This is not a sweet, happily-ever-after book. It gets gritty, it gets painful, and it touches on the deepest darkest moments of being human. What happens when you lose a parent unexpectedly? What happens when you find out your whole life is a lie?

In the midst of it, there is a story about a family. A family who fights but will stand by each other's side when needed. A family formed not of blood but forged by shared circumstances and necessity.

You can read this book as a stand-alone or you can read it after the Aster Prequels Trilogy. I would recommend reading the Asters Prequel Trilogy first. It is a set of novellas that really give more context as you begin reading this book. I am not a huge fan of the switch between third person omniscient and third person objective which is the reason for the -.5 star. The rest of the book is amazing. I love the plot. It was a good mixture of light/fun and dark. The magic system is one of my favorites and the characters were all likeable (even the ones that you don’t want to like). If you are looking for a YA Fantasy with a complex magic system, morally grey characters, and found family then look no further!

Thank you to the author and BookSirens for providing me with an ARC of this book

Thank you to the author and BookSirens for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved the prequel trilogy in this fantasy world so of course I said yes when given the chance to read the first book in the main trilogy! And I loved it. The characters are amazing and the obstacles they have to overcome really help build them up. The history and world building add in to the great story-telling. It’s just a fun world to be in with an interesting magic system and hierarchy. There were a few aspects I found to be slightly confusing or unrealistic but it didn’t diminish from the story overall so I give it four great stars! Can’t wait for more books to come.

The first book in the Aster series and I could not put it down. The characters are well defined and their growth from the prequels and this story has grown with more room to grow. Getting to know who Gayle is and her character was astonishing. Their is so much action, adventure, twists, turns, a few surprises along the way. Once again, Frances Ellen's brilliant world building weaves beautifully, perfectly, and magically throughout the story! I absolutely highly recommend reading this book!

I’ve been so excited to read this book that it felt like I’d waited a lifetime!😂 Thank you @francesellen_ for sending me a copy to share my thoughts with you lovely people ❤️

The Aster Sequel is to date one of most unique fantasy series I’ve read and I have to commend Frances for managing to continue this into From Fury Reborn 😍 There are so many elements that I love, from the use of technology, the Aster’s relationships, the mental health representation and the magic system!✨I’m going to talk about each of these in my review!

In my previous reviews I mentioned how much I love the characters and how they interact. In this books, they developed even deeper with a sprinkle of romance and a complicated relationship with a certain emerging character 🤫 I almost felt like an Aster; I knew the characters that well.

Although primarily a fantasy novel, Frances has set this series in a world of technology rather than castles and horses. The fantasy side is modern day without being urban (which isn’t my favourite) which is just so clever! ⭐️

So mental health. As someone with a masters in psychology, my biggest pet peeve is when characters go through trauma unscathed. In the prequel series, the Asters went through a lot and this is carried into From Fury Reborn. Even strong characters, like Sky, struggle, showing the truth of mental health struggles. 💔

Finally- MAGIC! I’ve never read anything with magic like this book! The Asters have individual powers and can borrow powers by drinking blood from each other! (Not in a vampire way though😂).

I rate this book 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Read these books!

P.s. I need to know the news Sky is going to hear when he returns!!!

Thank you to Frances for reaching out and letting me continue to read and review her works! It’s been a while since I followed the Aster’s journey and I’m glad to be back at it! From Fury Reborn was enjoyable and VERY action packed. Having read the mini synopsis for the sequel, I am beyond excited to read the rest of the story!

❗️Spoilers below❗️

Some thoughts on the characters. Sky is quite annoying and arrogant in my opinion. I figure that’s the point but I think I’m just done with men like that 😅. On the flip side, I love Nathan and Lian! They seem to be the only ones who don’t bug me but also the most calm and loyal. However, I would like Nathan to get over his crush on Sophie! I firmly ship a future relationship with Nathan and Gayle but who knows if that’s possible 😂. Speaking of Gayle - is was a very cool but scary and badass character 💪🏼.

Few predictions for the rest of the series:
1. The girl with the red hair - I think she’s a plant from the bad guys
2. Camille is either pregnant with Sky’s baby or Piper has found her
3. Nathan and Gayle are meant to be 🙏🏼
