Pete the Butterwalk

Pete’s life as a butterfly began on a sunny day in August as he poked out of his chrysalis. Butterflies have to wait for their wings to dry before they can take their first flight, and Pete had found the perfect spot to wait for his wings to dry high up in a maple tree. Everything was going according to plan until a nasty windstorm swept through the area. Pete knew his wings weren’t quite ready for flight, but he also knew there was no way he could hang onto the tree branch for much longer. As the winds grew stronger and stronger, Pete did the only thing he could do―he let go and flapped his wings as quickly as he could. But Pete’s wings weren’t strong enough, and he tumbled through the air before landing with a loud thud on the ground. Pete instantly knew something wasn’t right.
