This is pretty cute little story, told in first person by the Grim Reaper, trying to set the record straight about what a nice, charming, and forward-thinking guy he is.

He has no friends because his schedule is so demanding, night and day, all year, every year, since the start of eternity He wishes we'd given him a more attractive, colorful uniform, and something better than a skull for a face. He's proud of how efficiently and carefully he does his job; none of the pain of death is due to his handling of your soul. And he doesn't harass or bother us. No texting us updates on his progress to his appointments with us. No, he just shows up at the correct time.

It's not very deep, but it is cute and funny.

Intentionally or not, the narrator's voice isn't as ominous-sounding as I would have liked. Nevertheless, enjoyable.

I bought this audiobook..

This is a short book that I truly enjoyed. 50 pages of smiles and chuckles. And no typos!

I've never given more than a passing thought about the Grim Reaper but I'll be giving a lot of thought to that character now. Enjoying a delicious craft beer, paying taxes, and complaining about not being able to get a better and hopefully more colorful outfit because budgets are tight? Not what I ever would have imagined the Grim Reaper to be doing.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

This is a very short book. Each chapter is only a page long. It’s an essay by the Grim Reaper into why ‘he’ isn’t so bad and should be respected more.

It’s a very quick light read, quite amusing, I did laugh on at least one occasion, but it is a bit repetitive. The grim reaper comes across as a bit whiny. He complains about people running away screaming from him, also he’s fed up with his tattered clothing and would like an upgrade to the way he looks and dresses.

I would say it’s worth an hour of your time.

A quick and fun read that makes the end not seem so bad. It is supposed to be the next great journey after all. If I have the fortune of meeting this reaper I'll be sure to give him a thankyou for all his hard work.

This is the second “In Defense” short story I have read by this Author. Taking regular situations and spinning them letting you take a second look at the situation. A Comedic look.
We are all familiar with The Reaper. His look, tools and job all terribly frightening when he shows up. What if you knew they didn’t like their uniform? Job? Even their tools of trade?
This is less than an hour read. You will have laugh out loud moments, and dozens of oooh I never thought of that. I liked this short story and I gave it 3 stars only because I was comparing it to the other “In Defense” book by this Author I read. The “In Defense of Babyhood” was HILARIOUS! My guess is because it is more relatable as a Mother of 2. Either way Riya Aarini has a great sense of humor.

The Grim Reaper gets a bad rap. From his uniform to the task he must perform, the black-clad usher to the beyond might be the most fascinating creature you never want to meet. There are plenty of books that use the Grim Reaper as a character. The Reaper in these stories is usually doing the job of a Reaper. Not many books talk about who the Grim Reaper is in his own words. If you have ever wanted to know how he really feels and thinks, then In Defense of the Grim Reaper should be your next read.

Humorist and philosophical writer Riya Aarini presents a fun little kitschy novel. In her latest book, she attempts to clarify any misconceptions about Death himself. With In Defense of the Grim Reaper, Aarini covers all aspects of this eternal guide’s existence. It is a witty little book ideal for fans of the Grim Reaper or as a gag gift, for example, the Reaper resents being lumped in with taxes. After all, you’ll only meet the Grim Reaper once.

This is a short at times comedic a little whiny and repetitive in some areas take on the life in the day of the Grim Reaper.

The Grim Reaper does get a bad rap with the collection of souls and all of that. It’s his job to collect souls, he’s not the one that’s orchestrating the death but he gets to take the brunt of the ire because he’s the one that shows up.

It does put things in perspective in that he can show up on what is your greatest day to your worst day there is no differentiation as far as he’s concerned, he’s there to do the job not lament about him showing up at the wrong time.

It’s a pretty quick entertaining read.

Wonderful and short book, that took me just over a half-hour to read as I was smiling and laughing all the way through it.

I've long thought that the Grim Reaper is the kindest being there is. Who else so completely relieves suffering, while replacing the old things (and people) with new? With no death there could be no spring flowers, no puppies, no babies but there would be lots of droopy old plants and a world filled with painful disease. I hope this doesn't make me a "superfan", abhorred by the Grim Reaper. At least he's a sure thing, and not nearly as bad or uncertain as taxes.
