This book is difficult to put down. It has it all-a rags to riches story, an ambitious secretary marrying her boss, a case of deliberately falsifying the identity of a mystery baby, and the unraveling of the secret that the Dodges so desperately tried to hide. Add to this, the glitz and glamour of the 1920's in Detroit's high society, and the unbelievably tragic endings of 2 of the Dodges' young children. After reading it, my husband and I traveled 600 miles to visit Meadow Brook, Matilda's palace in a suburb of Detroit. 95% of books I read, I give away. This one is a keeper.
Couldn't put this down in part because I am living here and have gone to tour of Meadow Brook Hall. I am learning so much about the auto Barons and the incredible wealth of these families not to mention their influence on Detroit and the development of the infrastructure of the arts here.
