Protecting his Highlander is a 5 book series, this episode being Book 1 of A Time-Travel Romance (Reunited in the Highlands Series Two), excellently written by Laura Wells. This set of 5 books is about Isabel McEwan, a Scottish woman in the year 1452, and Harvey Griffin, a native of Austin, Texas in the United States, from the year 2022. Isabel, even when she was a little girl, wanted to fight for her clan, but was deterred by her father because she was a girl and other things were expected of her. Harvey is a present-day man whose wife died three years earlier, leaving him with a little daughter named Skylar. She stays in the states with her mother's parents, while Harvey takes a two week vacation to Llyn, Scotland. One morning, he is out jogging, when he hears a voice calling his name. It's a ghostly woman, and when he gets closer to her, the ground beneath him gives way and he splashes down into a cursed well, winding up in 1452. Isabel is angry with her father for refusing to let her fight with the men of the clan. She goes off on her horse, carrying with her a small sword sheath, A sword, and a bow and arrow. She's out to hunt, whether it be a rabbit, a squirrel, or a deer. She wants her father's approval, but knows she won't get his approval unless it's a man she drags home. Voila! Fate intervenes and Isabel comes face-to-face with her destiny, in the form of Harvey Griffin. This is quite a great beginning for this second series. The reader gets literally pulled in as he/she witnessed and the cruelty of fate for women in the 15th Century, the humor of Harvey thinking Isabel is playing a Renaissance role-playing game, Isobel's realization that Harvey talks as funny as her new sister-in-law does (Lizzie from Series One, who also came through a cursed well, although from a different well than Harvey - Saving her Highlander), and we see just what kind of courage Isabel has when she and Harvey are ambushed by he McFadden clan. I gave this first episode of Series Two a great big 5 star rating, and will read Book 2 next.
This is the start of a second series of time travelling written by Laura Wells. To appreciate the full experience of this new series then I think it’s best if you read the previous series and Theia before embarking on this story.
This story begins with Harvey, a new main character, and then we are introduced again to Isabel who met in the previous story when her brother John had the hero part.
Loved Isabel’s stubborn nature and this short starting piece helps us to get inside her head better plus the reader is becoming invested in Harvey’s nature too. So far it has been clean and there may be romance to come!
After the hero and heroine meet under unusual circumstances, the story is left with a cliffhanger concerning Harvey…so I’m away to grab the next instalment!!
Received this as a free copy and this is my own opinion.
Series 2 Book 1 - Great start to this short read Whilst on holidays in Scotland with a friend Harvey goes running one morning in 2022 he finds himself falling and ends up in a well, fighting to reach the surface of the water and safety. Unwell and freezing he stumbles around trying to get back to his holiday rental and has a close call with an arrow, meeting Isabel hunting in the forest. Unbeknownst to him he is now in 1452 Scotland where Isabel persuades him to see a healer at the castle. On the way back trouble ensues and they are ambushed. Will they get out alive? Really enjoyed the first instalment introducing us to Harvey and Isabel’s story. Looking forward to reading the rest. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review
Harvey fell through a hole in the ground and fell into a well and from the year 2022 to the year 1452. He climbed out and met Isabel McEwan the Laird’s daughter. They were attacked and Harvey now has an arrow in his chest. Now I want to know what happens in the next book.
Wonderful time travel story with beautiful history, a fierce independent woman and a strong loving man. I loved the contrast between the two time periods and how descriptive the author was about the countryside, characters and battles. In my minds eye I saw everything as it unfolded! Looking forward to the next book ❤️ I received this ARC and this is my honest review.
After reading Theia and Saving Her Highlander I've been so excited to read this series. The first series was about Lizzie and John finding love and this one is about Johns little sister Isabel finding love with Harvey. This book was so good and can't wait to start the second one 😁
The beginning sounds very intriguing, hope it will be as good as the first book! The cliffhanger at the end left me dying to hear more... and I like the unusual idea of a man travelling back in time, rather than a woman 😏
Excellent start to an enjoyable series of novellas! We meet Isabel and Harvey under quite unusual circumstances…through a water well no less! Both are perplexed, but intrigued as they realize that Harvey is from the faraway future. How could this be? Keep reading for Book 2!
