Christmas Surprise

Rate this book
A Clean Enemies to Lovers Western Holiday Romance
Christmas is Margo’s favorite time of year. She goes over the top in decorating her apartment for the Holidays and has a special closet full of what she calls festive wear. She subscribes to a music channel that plays Christmas Carols year-round and is likely the only person to have seen all the Holidays Hallmark movies.

After Margo’s mom died of cancer ten years ago, things were rough for a while. Though she would miss her mom forever, Margo made peace with the help of a good therapist. Her dad, however, wasn’t doing so well. Sure, he still ran the family ranch, but he looked like he was wasting away. He refused to sell the place, insisting it was Margo’s legacy, despite Margo repeatedly telling him she has no interest in ranching.

Chase is the main guy at the ranch now. He started at the ranch a little after her mom died and has steadily moved up the ranks to ranch manager. With Chase’s help, the ranch is now more profitable than it has ever been. He’s not keen on Margo’s return for the Holidays. They were hot and heavy a few years back, but she’s forgotten all about him after she moved to LA.

He just needs to be civil for Robert’s sake. If he can make it through Christmas without strangling his daughter, the old rancher might agree to sell him the place.

But Robert has other plans for his two favorite people...

Margo loved Christmas, but it wasn't the same since her mother died. Her father talked her into spending time at the ranch that one day would be hers. Margo's only problem was Chase, a one-time fling who was now the Ranch Manager. He awkward visit becomes even more so by her father's ultimatum.

The characters of Margo and Chase were interesting. There is lots of tension, but not without some sweet moments. The ending wrapped everything up nicely for a novella.

I normally love a story like this where there is a forced marriage or some kind of circumstances that require two people to be together against their will. And I think this set up could have been really fun but the story was just too short. It jumped ahead to cover an entire year in not very many pages so too much of the story was just told to the reader instead of seeing it happen. It felt like someone telling a short bedtime story - this happened, that happened and they fell in love. So many events that could have been shown to the reader would have made the story so much more endearing instead of just telling it in a line or two. There were some situations like that where my response was, "Wait. What?" As a full length novel I would have loved the story.

No sex, language or violence

Utterly alien concepts to an Englishman such as the ranch and small town America really turn off the enjoyment of what was, at heart, a very simple, traditional love story.

That anyone could take this seriously is difficult to fathom, but it was not written badly, just so absolutely predictable, that any suspense, any anticipation was destroyed from the second chapter. The father is unbelievable, the lovers just so obvious, that to claim even such a short story was worth time and effort is, unfortunately, not the case.

Christmas is Margo’s favorite time of year and she always decorates extensively and also owns lots of festive holiday attire. She loved everything about the season! Margo grew up on a ranch, but now lives in LA. This year she’s going home to the ranch to celebrate. When she returns what will she do about the man she left in a lurch a few years back? What will she do when her father issues a difficult choice?

Can they work together?
I thought this was a rather sweet love story about two people who needed to understand that they did belong together that is if they could stop fighting. Yes it is and enemy to lover tale and it was very well done. I liked the characters and enjoyed seeing them grow together. It was a lovely afternoon break type of book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

if it’s a son let’s name him Harvey

Short fun Enemies to lovers with a capital E. They fought and argued and almost deep sized the ranch until they could come to grips and start working together. It was fun to see the metamorphosis of the relationship. Although a fling 10 years earlier was mentioned this was completely clean.

She goes home for Christmas
Her father is struggling . . .and he wants her to help him. BUT he also wants her to marry his foreman — the man who basically runs the ranch. And thus begins a love story of epic proportions!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own.

Really cute second chance story. Margo and Chase had a fling years ago but have avoided each other since then. Forced into marriage by her father, can they make things work? I loved the ending.
I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.

This was a fun read to transport you to the ranch over the weekend. I enjoyed these two characters and the hilly journey their relationship took. A great read. Some great laugh-out-loud scenes. A great one.
