Complete The Fable Triad with The Elephant and the Dragon and The Mermaid and the River Otter . Though each of the fables are separate tales with separate characters, they're meant to embody the same global time frame and can be read in any order. They begin almost identically, much like Kipling's Just So Stories , in order to set the tone and rhythm as complementary to the other two. But—worry not! Each fable offers its own unique account without following the same pattern throughout. These fables are different in that there are several lessons and morals interwoven within the narratives themselves, instead of ending the story with a single, intended teaching.
This book is the second in a series and is set underwater. The advisors of the reef are Makani the dolphin and Annora the giant octopus. The story told here is about Storslange the sea serpent who is a newcomer to the reef and actually helps all of the occupants of the reef by stopping Nero the megoloden shark by wrapping his body around him. Nero would eat any animal he could including the whales. So instead of fearing Storslange all of the underwater creatures welcome him because of his care and concern for them.
