IF I'M NOT BACK BY WEDNESDAY - Trapped in Jamaica's Blue Mountains is an autobiographical memoir - A TRUE STORY - which describes how close to death five schoolboys came, as they suffered in below zero temperatures (due to the wind-chill effect), faced raging winds and fog, lack of sunshine, mental exhaustion - just about out of food and water. Would any of them be found and if so alive! Miraculously they were spotted in a tiny fern patch surrounded by tall trees and densely knitted forest- a place they never thought they would have been found much less rescued; and were ready to set the mountain on fire in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve 1967.
A glimpse of the rarefied world of a colonial boarding school at the twilight of the British Empire. Students think that the tortures and rituals of their seniors are brutal and unpredictable, until a weekend outing turns into a struggle for survival.
Life threatening adventure of five boys over nine days. This book gives detailed insights into the lifestyle of a successful immigrant paterfamilias in Kingston during the 1960s.
I knew of this story already but hearing it in first person was great. Hearing the anticipation of the planning, and at which point being lost the boys actually started to stress brought the whole story alive. There were a few moments where the story felt a bit drawn out - like the rescue process, but otherwise it was a good memoir.
