Evolution of the Ammonoids

Rate this book
Ammonites are an extinct and charismatic lineage that persisted for over 300 million years. They were used, with other fossils, to corroborate the principle of faunal succession and launch the field of biostratigraphy. Despite intense research, many important questions remain unanswered. Furthermore, outdated hypotheses persist. Many new findings include a better understanding of their appearance in life, their locomotion, and their role in long-gone ecosystems. And, of course, there are still controversies; e.g. why did shell complexity increase during evolutionary history. This richly illustrated book describes the full range of ammonoids and their fascinating evolutionary history. Key Related Titles Ponder, W. F. D. R. Lindberg and J. M. Ponder. Kate Lomedico Marriott is one of the most talented people I have ever encountered in paleontology. Her ability to explain challenging scientific concepts with ease while simultaneously reconstructing extinct species through her stunning art are talents that leave me in awe. I have spent hours just looking at the art she has posted on her website and marveling at the skill set she has developed through years of hard work and dedication. Her passion for her work is infectious and reminds me of why I love geology and paleontology in the first place.

Anyone who fancies themselves a fan of fine art(s) or invertebrate studies will benefit from reading this stunning book. It was a visual treat! Ms. Marriott traverses and effortlessly scales intellectual mountains as she reveals the true story behind one of the ocean's most fascinating fossil groups: The ammonites.

I wish Goodreads let me leave 10 stars! This is utter perfection.
