This book deals with bullying by others for being different. My Girly Unicorn doesn't change who she is because of that bullying and in the end the bullies need her help. She gives a strong anti-bullying message in a storybook setting.

My Girly Unicorn is an adventure in the colorful sky on rainbows, under rain clouds, and running along with rowdy young unicorns. This story takes readers through the world of young unicorns and their exciting games and antics. However, some unicorns do not treat a certain unicorn with kindness. When something dark interrupts their light-filled skies, a surprising character emerges as a resilient guide for hope and joy for the other unicorns. Readers will ride along on a vibrant coaster of joy, determination, and confidence in My Girly Unicorn .

It is a perfect book for all young readers because it incorporates powerful lessons of confidence, kindness, and resilience in the characters and throughout the plot. The girl unicorn resembles a strong character who, despite being left out of most of the other youthful games and activities, is proud of who she is regardless of how she looks to the other unicorns. This character even faces and surpasses a challenge that stumps the other unicorns, and this shows readers that resilience and confidence can be found in any creature no matter their looks or size. Additionally, the book is doused in cotton-candy-colored clouds, vibrantly colored rainbows, and inviting terrain obstacles. The illustrations pair wonderfully with the story devoted to a certain unicorn’s appearance and the fun and exciting nature of being a young unicorn. Finally, the themes present in the book are prime lessons for young readers to recognize in literature that they can apply to their lives and their friends. Overall, My Girly Unicorn is a stellar and vibrant book just waiting at the edge of the rainbow for any young unicorn reader to experience!

My Girly Unicorn is an adventure story of a unicorn with a mass of colorful hair and a purple horn. The girly unicorn is ignored and bullied by other unicorns in the rainbow playground. But when the cloud monsters hide the sun and flood the place, the unicorns are scared and have nowhere to go. It’s up to the girly unicorn to save the day.

The book deals with bullying by friends for being different. It shows how the bullies ultimately needed the girly unicorn to save them. It talks of doing your thing even if no one supports you and being confident to take on the obstacles and tide over them.

The illustrations are bright, colorful, and oh-so-pretty. The book is in portrait (vertical) orientation with the text printed below the illustrations (almost as a footnote). The rhyming verse was going great until I stumbled at one point. Sigh!

Nevertheless, My Girly Unicorn should be picked up for the illustrations. The gray looming clouds have such cutely wicked smiles and vampire-ish teeth, lol.

I received an ARC from NetGalley, Newhall Publishing Co., and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles, and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What a sweet and heartwarming read about love and acceptance! The illustrations are stunning and I loved all the vibrant colours. The rhymes sound a little forced at times but overall, this is a wonderful picture book that kids will enjoy.

Worth it for the illustrations alone. I would have adored Cono's colorful, charming drawings as a child! J Penicini's message of self-confidence and perseverance is strong, as My Girly Unicorn saves the bullies from the rainstorm - and the rhyming verse is lovely.

thank you to Newhall Publishing Co., Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), and Members' Titles, via NetGalley, for the ARC of My Girly Unicorn, all opinions are my own

We enjoyed this book about a sweet little unicorn who has been bullyied and shunned from her peer group, only to turn around and save them from the evil clouds. This is a tale that has been written about in different ways, but was still fresh and fun. The graphics were very well done and the story flowed well.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and opinion. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so much to a Newhall publishing and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.

A girly unicorn stands out to the other unicorns, she is rainbow maned and she is always dancing. The other unicorns don’t like her, but when a storm hits quickly she continues to dance and be happy no matter what.

I loved the illustrations, that is what drew me in straight the way to wanting to read this, they ware so vibrant and so beautifully stunning. Each picture was just beautiful and that really is what made the book for me, they were just done so well.

The story was pretty sad though as one unicorn was left out, was bullied and ignored and she just wanted to have friends to help her dance and have fun. It was so horrible how mean they were to her, but she didn’t let them get to her.

I liked that she continued to be herself no matter what they others said or judged her for, she was herself and because of that she helped all the others without even really knowing she was doing it.

This is a really simple but cute story and worth looking at and reading for the illustrations alone. Though the story itself is still really sweet and a good message for being yourself no matter what anyone else thinks.

I don't think I have ever seen such an adorable picture book. If I was little or had a daughter or even a niece, this is one picture book I would buy for them - even more so if they are like me. From the illustrations to the bright colours, everything about this book made me squee with glee as it just screams girly and happiness. The story starts with a unicorn who is beautiful and out there, sadly though all the other unicorns make fun of her as they don't understand her. That is until trouble happens and all the other unicorns are terrified, but not our brave little extroverted unicorn as she jumps in and saves the day. After this happens, all the other unicorns thank her profusely and let her join in with their fun and finally, our girly unicorn is surrounded by friends and love. Sounds very familiar right? That's what I felt when I was reading this book as our girly unicorn's tale reminded me of Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer from all the others excluding and name-calling and then finally they save the day and everyone wants to be their friends and let them join in on the fun. This book is perfect for children aged 3-6 years old and all those young Unicorn lovers out there whether you are a Pony sister or a Brony.

I'm giving My Girly Unicorn 3 1/2 stars. The pictures are large and wonderfully colorful, and any child that has even a passing love for unicorns will be truly delighted by them. The words all rhyme and tell a story about a little unicorn girl with rainbow colored hair who brings the sunlight out when she dances. Unfortunately, all the other unicorn children make fun of her and exclude her from all their activities. However, before long they find themselves in quite the pickle, with a watery danger surrounding them all. Of course, at this point the little girl uses her best skills to beat back the danger and get all safely home. This is the point where happily ever after is achieved, as all the unicorns tell the girly unicorn that they all love her. This would have been an easy 4 stars except I found the prose a bit lacking, fortunately I don't think the age group for this book will ever even notice.

Thank you to a Newhall publishing and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.

I opted to read this book with the POV as if I think this would be a good book to get my niece. The colors will absolutely entice younger readers.

It's a simple and cute story about being yourself and being kind despite how others treat you (which can be hard to see the message as an adult because as someone who is super protective of her, if I found out anyone was bullying my niece, I can guarantee that I would not be following the message "still be kind"), but I understand it as a lesson to teach children. It kind of reminds me of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," where all of the other reindeer made fun of Rudolph, but he's the one who saved the day when he became useful to the others.

Additionally, not sure how inclusive this felt for all children. Ballet/dancing does not need to be inherently "girly," nor is having multiple colors in hair. None of these things need to be made a gendered thing.

The illustrations are beautiful though!

This colourful picture book tells the story of a unicorn who is judged and left out by the other unicorns because she is "girly". When the other unicorns find themselves in a dangerous weather situation (very reminiscent of Rudolph and the reindeer!) of course only the girly unicorn can save the day! The other unicorns apologize for being mean and appreciate her for who she is. The pictures are so stimulating, any unicorn-loving young reader will love this book instantly. The message is an important one, and it is also empowering for young children to learn that "girly" isn't a term that means anything, anyone can love unicorns and just because you look a certain way, enjoy certain things, or do activities that are typically gendered, it doesn't make someone weird or different. I would definitely consider purchasing a copy for my classroom library and think that it would be well suited for children in the age 3-8 group, especially unicorn lovers! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

I received and ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to love this book. I can appreciate what the author-illustrator is trying to do. There's a good chance that my six year old daughter would really enjoy it in spite of what I'm about to say (this is why I'm giving it 3 stars). For me, the rhyming just absolutely did not work. There was a lot of reaching in trying fit words into the rhyme that would adequately tell the story and the whole thing would have been better served without it. I also didn't care for the illustrations for the most party. I did actually really like the girly unicorn. I think this book has potential, but in my opinion, it's just not ready for publication yet.

My Girly Unicorn was such a fun read. The illustrations are breathtaking, the writing style is poetic, and has a heartwarming ending.
This book deals with bullying by others for being different. A girly unicorn with colorful hair and a purple horn who dances in the rain. She doesn't change who she is because of that bullying and in the end the bullies need her help.
My only issue with this story is the emphasis the author put on the "that" girly unicorn, it felt a little too much and not necessarily needed for this age group.

I received this eARC from NetGalley and the publishing company for this review.

This book was really cute overall! My daughter loved the illustrations and thought all of unicorns were adorable. The overall message of treating everyone with kindness was really positive but I do think it may go over younger readers heads. The “storm” was also a bit scary for my daughter (she is almost 7 and is sensitive) but not enough to scare her off from wanting to be read it again.

I think this is a great one for older kids in regards to the storyline and younger kids will enjoy the cute illustrations.

The girlie unicorn has no friends and is sad. The other unicorns are mean to her. She practices her dance moves to get the just right.
One day an evil storm comes to trap all the other unicorns and they are saved by the girlie unicorns dance.
I’m obviously not the target audience for this book but the illustrations are great! Bright and colourful and the Rhyming story would be good to read to a little one before bed.
I personally didn’t like the story, hence the 3 stars but a little one would probably appreciate the tale for what it is.

What a cute story about love and acceptance. The unicorn has no friends and others make fun of her. She does not let that stop her from saving everyone when a storm threatens them. This is a picture book all ages can enjoy, that can lead to a discussion about kindness. Personally benign a dancer, the unicorn stopping the storm by dancing was amazing. The illustrations are stunning and definitely help bring the story to life. I highly recommend this and can not wait to read it with my middle school students. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book is an attemp to co-opt the story of Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, substituting unicorns for reindeer. The book is just...not good. The resolution doesn't make sense. (An ostracized unicorn's dance steps just happen to lead other unicorns out of a storm.) Some rhymes directly copy the Rudolph story: they called her names and wouldn't let her play their games. And since all unicorns are "girly," the whole premise (that a unicorn is teased for her girliness) is just odd. Cannot reccomend.

I thought that this book had some excellent illustrations!

They were lovely and they brought the story to life

I thought that the book was well written and the book was really well put together, the layout was perfect and the writing wasn’t over the images like it can be in some books, it was nice and clear

I read the book with my unicorn mad five year old daughter – she enjoyed it so much we have read the book several times already and it is one of her current favourites to read at bedtime

It is 5 stars from me for this one, a fun read – very highly recommended

I read a few picture books and I really enjoyed a few of them even though I'm not the target audience. Also when I read similar books, I always think about should I buy them for my child. Unfortunately, the answer is NO for this book. The illustrations were beautiful, but there were not any story in it and the story was very weak. Also, I didn't like the font and the white background behind it. I read the synopsis so I know that there is a purpose behind it but for me, it looked amateur.

Bold, bright, and enchanting artwork illustrate a positive story with a built-in life lesson for toddlers/small children. Sometimes, the rhymes seem a little forced, but overall, it is a good book for any small child, especially when a discussion about bullies or treating everyone with kindness needs to take place. My toddler enjoyed it.

A cute book well animated. The colors are bright and the pictures are great for young children. The plot is pretty much Rudolph the Red Nose reindeer adapted for a girly unicorn instead. The story is told through rhyme and is quite short. A good bedtime story for children 2-5 years old.

I had the opportunity not just to read the book but also to translate it into Italian and it was so much fun and amazing. I think that through this story, children can easily learn the importance of diversity, and help others in difficult moments.
Highly recommended for your little readers!

It was short and cute. I liked the art.

The reason I'm not rating this book is because it's so short and not what I usually read, so I don't know how to rate it. I might rate this at a later time

Thank you J. Pedicini and LibraryThing for the ARC.

In 'My Girly Unicorn', we find our main character to be far more colorful than her fellow unicorns. She's also more cautious and the other unicorns bully her for it leaving our unicorn feeling sad and lonely.

The book reads smoothly with creative rhymes while teaching kids to empathize for those who are bullied and be accepting and inclusive. The art style is colorful and appealing, allowing little ones to really immerse themselves in the story.

It was an adorable and enjoyable story and my daughters, age 6 and 11, both enjoyed listening to it. My oldest is a big fan of art and really loved the artistic style of this story, stating they were absolutely adorable with great attention to detail.

Ultimately, a great read to teach young children about the harm bullying can cause and the power of acceptance.
