Good but ...

This would be a great series of the author would just eliminate half of the inner monologue each character goes through. So many times it is repetitive, which makes it harder to drudge through.

This was the first and last book I will read of this author. I like dark stories when I’m in the mood for them and I haven’t been lately. I just read a fantastic book prior to this one and 8 more before it. But I only find the use of dark content and disturbing trigger situations acceptable when they are used to truly develop and flesh out characters and their development (and of course world building). Life can be hard and we each have our secrets and past. Flawed and scared characters with depths are my favorites. That’s not what I found in the first book of in this bundle. I found the reviews I read in advance lacked a few details I would have preferred to know about. I didn’t even read the entire book but skimmed through to the end to see if something justified the use of the darker content. It didn’t…it was trying to be a PWP and the plot (which is the thing of nightmares for so many victims) used to try and ‘dress it up’ wasn’t enough. It’s felt like there was a checklist of abuse that had to be included even if it wasn’t needed.

****SPOILER****

****SPOILER****

Here is an example of what I mean and while it’s a bit of a spoiler it doesn’t really effect the story to know about this as you’ll come across it quickly. I just found it difficult to accept how a woman captured by alien officers and on her way to a prison sentence could survive a corporal punishment and want more. I mean…I did try to imagine being tied to a wall and receiving nearly 20 no holding back whip lashes from giant super strong male aliens and becoming turned on enough to take on the three of their much larger bodies and enjoy the pain each on gave me in bed right afterwards for so many pages I lost count. But all I could see in my head was the woman’s body barely being able to stand on her own and crying out in pain after each movement or touch before passing out entirely. Can anyone else? I would have believed it if they had taken her to have a blood transfusion and then treating her flayed open skin with a healthy dose of antibiotics and pain meds before the weeks and weeks it would take to recover. That would have worked for me. But that didn’t happen. So instead I just see her bleeding to death all over a table or sheets in any other situation. Someone might need look up the effects of the torture you are writing about before flipping using it as the prelude into the next round of abuse…but hey…that’s just me and what do I know…well I do know about the effects of whip lashes on a body so that’s something.

If you want to a read a dark detailed rape porn/erotica description of a women and three alien males doing the above description and more then this book is for you. I gave it a one start for punctuation and because I had to do something so my review would be seen. I wish I found a review with a bit more honesty before wasting my time on this.

Yes, it's hot and steamy but it felt like every plot was "wash, rinse, repeat". Things may change a little bit overall it's dominate alphas MMCs and feisty FMC. I guess I didn't realize it was much when I read the books spaced out more.

And why do some of the Aurelians need harems of they each only have one "mate" for their pack? If she isn't a fit, why keep her? I should also warn just in case you don't know, these are alien breeder books. They may not seem like it but when these girl met their mates they end up basically becoming immortal so they can be baby-making machines for their alien men - ONLY sons though. There are no females in this species, so these women end up almost always pregnant with a boatload of sons. So if you aren't into alien-breeding or steamy stuff, pass this one over.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

⭐️0.2/5…..i very rarely DNF books as i’m a huge proponent of “gots to see it thru my boy” BUT HOLY SHIT I CAN’T TAKE THIS ANYMORE. 14 chapters of whiny contradictions with a side of manipulation and the author just straight up not knowing basic measurements (seriously how can somebody have a trim physique while weighing 400 pounds????) and i have reached my limit. the straw that broke the camel’s back was realizing that i was only 6% of the way thru whatever this is. i feel like i deserve financial compensation for getting as far as i did.

"They all have grey eyes... Until they Bond their mate."

I originally jumped into this series at book 5, and now I'm going back to read it from the beginning... but wanted to gather my reviews of the series and share them with the boxset with hopes they help other readers...

Book 5 Sawoot's Story

..."the one thing I know about luck is that eventually, it runs out."

This book is one heck of a ride.

I wish it was a done in one, or that I could turn the page to find out what happens next, but this ends with a definite "come back to read more" moment.

Sawoot is the first officer on a small ship, and over the course of her story we discover the many official, and unofficial, duties she's taken on, as well as heists and jobs she and Captain Tasha have done.

Garrick and his triad assure Sawoot she will be safe from the moment they first speak to her, and while they seem unlikely protectors, given the situation, they prove to be remarkable heroes.

This story stands solidly on its own, my reading of the stories with Aureliens has been one here, then another there... Thankfully they are in Kindle Unlimited so I can fill in some gaps.

Book 6 Aurelian Abduction

Harper could write the book on Aurelians...

When an Aurelian Intelligence Triad needs specialized information about Aurelians they turn to an expert... who happens to be a human who gathered up all that knowledge to try and understand the species she hates to the core.

Harper is confident in her feelings about Aurelians, even acknowledging, to herself, A few conflicted feelings, but Karliss, Amon and Dorn challenge her to look beyond her book learning and extrapolations, and cope with the real deal.

This done in one Kindle Unlimited book is an almost addictive adventure, spinning the whodunit on its side, they've got a solid concept of the who (okay, in broad/vague terms, but they've narrowed down that part), it's the what dangerous thing are they going to do, and why is it supposed to trigger intergalactic war, or change life as we know it that they've got to solve.

This does resolve Sawoot's story, so for those left dangling off a cliff in the final chapter of that book, resolution awaits here.

Book 7 Bonded to the Alien Gladiatiors

The Old Ways...

Previous stories in the Aurelian empire have mentioned the Followers of Obsidian and the Priests, the ones who follow the Old Ways, but in this story the Triad that comes forward in the role of Hero is believers, and Sara finds herself trying to understand what is truth, and what is rumor. Are Kro, Torbad, and Salan fanatics who are part of a group determined to send the galaxy into war... is something else really going on... or like so many people, are they more complex than any onliner might make them seem.

I really enjoyed how this done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read showed the other side of the proverbial coin, and took us down the rabbit hole with true believers, and the one who was trying to get to know them.

Book 8 Caged with the Alien Gladiators

"They all have grey eyes… Until they Bond their mate."

Jacky has worked hard, with single minded determination, to make her way to safety. With each job she's bought passage one hop closer to where slavers don't hunt, and lusty Aliens aren't trying to lure women into their harems... And she's ready to board that final hop.

This triad is struggling to stay on mission, and do what they know to be right, even when they have to fight their instincts to do it.

This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read moves the overarching arc forward in more than one way, further explores the complicated situation the Aurelian Empire finds itself in, and deals with trusting your gut and instincts, and figuring out not only who to trust, but whether or not others are being honest, and why.

Here's hoping Kay shows up in a future story.

Book 9 Bonded to the Fallen Warriors

"Some hope that somewhere out there, something will come to save me."

Aria's story is an intense search for safety in a Universe where it is hard to know who to trust, and which way to turn for a secure future. Her situation is complicated by her determination to care for fellow orphan Teegan, a 10 year old who has no one else to look out for him.

Ark, Callum and Serge risk everything for their future, finding not only Aria, but Teegan, a boy she loves like a son, in desperate straights when they arrive.

This done in one Kindle Unlimited book dives into a part of the Aurelian Universe other books have set up, challenging these characters to find a safe harbor among those we typically view as the enemy, and giving us an inside look at what is going on with the fanatics.

Book 10 - Bonded to the Alien War God

"I know my life’s purpose. To quell the anger of this beast. To give him solace from his agony."

Fay thought she understood the job she'd signed on for -- then they arrived at the planet and she got a dose of reality. Turns out the person hiring you and the person bossing you around on-site aren't always on the same page

Nope, DNF.

It's pretty much all about getting gang raped, the females nearly killed through brutal sex, and learning to like it (in fact afterwards normal men are incapable of satisfying). The female lead is perceived as a poor little woman just not competent enough and the big bad men have to take over every aspect of her life because they know best. And the cherry on top of this rape culture misogyny is a whole lot of victim blaming where it's all her fault because she's attractive and has the body they want so must be purposely seducing them. Ooo, and they just can't resist raping women because biologically they NEED it, so the males can't be at fault.

So if gang rape, brutal sex, victim blaming, and marginalizing female intelligence and agency is not your cup of tea I'd skip it.

First story Allie is the manipulative cunt that you make sure your sons, brothers steer clear of..absolutely hate her.. if rest of stories are like this one the stars will not go up. This book feels political to me anti-punishment for the FMC’s but the MMC’s get harsh punishment for things such as the bonding with their fated mate who was a fucking criminal who seduced them into, but cuz she got a vag…she is exonerated of her crime which was seducing and stealing….second book started off pretty good then the FMC took a header into the blame game and victim pool…done….you can see my notes of where I am coming from…DNF other stories

I think there's something oddly brilliant and subversive about all of these weird space porn novels. They all have more world-building than you'd expect, and it's not that they're good, exactly, or that they're always good smut, even--just that as a trend, I think they're worth noting.

What is it about our time and place in history that's spawning masses of these alien barbarians need human women books? It's like a perverse reversal of Jon Carter of Mars. They're written by women, for women.

I predict some future literary historian/cultural anthropologist will have a field day.

Really annoyed

The storytelling is good, but the series ends with no closure. In fact, the final book is a cliffhanger essentially. That is really frustrating. If you need a happy ever after, get a different book or just read all but the last book in this so called "complete" series.

Loved it but.....

I loved this but I need a book that tells of Obsidian, Fay and their child. This was incomplete. It needs another book or episode.

Annoying read. Feel like it ended in the middle.

I almost stopped reading because of editing errors. After I reached the "ending," I almost wish I had. I think this is the most poorly edited book series that I've actually chosen to finish. I wanted to know what happened to these characters, but there were a lot of ends left loose. Like, A LOT. The climax that the ENTIRE series was leading up to was finally all set up and ready to happen... and the series was over. I'm still waiting on a pregnancy from one of the first 3 books. How crazy must THEY be going??

If the species is dying out, shouldn't the death penalty be carried out via cryo-chamber, where the person can be transformed into a new child? The second-to-last book is the only one in which a cryo-chamber is even mentioned in a situation other than death from old age. It's stated in the same book that dishonorable actions marked the genes of some as unworthy of reincarnation, but this is a species that is dying out at a much faster rate than they're being born. This system is unsustainable.

The reading itself annoyed me. The author is very repetitive, and many pages felt like I'd already read them, whether in that book or one of the previous books. For example, one steamy scene took almost a half hour to read because we were stuck inside a virgin's head, repeating the same things that had been said over the previous chapters. I get that it's hard to find new ways to say similar things when writing 10 books with the same alien races, but it felt like the author was trying to hit a word count.

The number of spanks doesn't add up in book 2. She started with 100, passed 20, but still had 90 to go? Then the rest go quickly. When this is revisited from her friend's perspective, the numbers add up better. Other numbers in the books don't add up or make linear sense, either, like the author decided to alter course but didn't go back to make things line up. How many children does Queen Jasmine have? At one point, the number was 20. I think the author finally settled on a dozen by the end, but it goes up and down throughout the series.

"Foot" and "feet" are used in the opposite of correct circumstances when describing the Aurelians for the first several books - and their immense size is driven home OFTEN. We get it; they're huge. We don't need half of every other page detailing what's already been said. For that matter, we don't need to be reminded that they're Aurelian during every paragraph (or sentence, or phrase) of every steamy scene. It's unnecessary to specify that what's leaking out of them is Aurelian in nature every single time.

Author frequently uses phrases referencing "the world" when the characters are in space and from different worlds. "I'd give anything in the world," should actually be, "I'd give anything in this galaxy [or universe, but something bigger than a single world]."

Tenseness, devoutness, anxiousness, ferociousness instead of tension, devotion, anxiety, ferocity... Those are personal preference, I suppose, but they caused the writing to feel clunkier than it needed to.

Now for strictly editing errors. *Cracks knuckles and takes deep breath* So many extra/skipped/incorrect words! Hope you're good at inferring the author's intent. "Instead" repeated at beginning and end of a phrase. Character continues to "mule" over a thought or clenches her "first." "Inhumanely" used incorrectly in place of "inhumanly" for the entirety of book one. "All I want is to do is be with my triad again." - Book Four. "Aurelian" frequently made plural when it obviously shouldn't be. Verbs are often misconjugated. "There's [plural noun]." Tense doesn't line up within individual sentences, let alone paragraphs or chapters, frequently switching between present and past. Excessive use of semicolons in the last quarter of book 3 were very distracting. Lord Oblog is frequently autocorrected to Lord Oblong, and Lord Reedok to Lord Reebok. Extra commas that interrupt the flow of a sentence. "... He'd rather we [do this], than risk..."

Whew! I feel better now. I hope that you might enjoy this series more than I did, but I will not be reading the other series in this universe.

Captive Mates is an epic collection of ten steamy sci‑fi romance novellas. Corin Cain builds a universe where towering Aurelian warriors have two overriding instincts – to protect and to conquer – and the stakes are high for their human mates. The stories follow a human queen and her alien triads as they face honourable warriors and power‑mad fanatics, delivering rescue missions, kidnappings, and high‑stakes battles. I loved the vivid descriptions of the Aurelians’ marble skin and ancient weapons, and how each couple’s journey is filled with passion, danger and loyalty.

Cain keeps the tension high as the alien factions clash over the fate of humanity, but at its core this series is about the powerful bonds that form between mates. Each novella in the box set explores a different pairing, from prisoners and smugglers to gladiators and fallen warriors, yet they all celebrate consent, trust and the idea of love as a cosmic force. The combination of primal romance and imaginative world‑building makes for a fast‑paced, addictive read.

If you enjoy spicy sci‑fi with alpha aliens and brave heroines, Captive Mates delivers page after page of action, emotion and heat. The overarching plot ties the stories together while giving each triad its own satisfying arc. I couldn't put it down and can’t wait to dive into more from this universe.

I wasn't sure about this one. It actually sat in my Kindle for months.
Boy am I glad I read this whole complete box set. Excellent! I really enjoyed the stories. Who wouldn't love 3 hot, huge male specimens??!!! 7ft tall, muscular men. Well, aliens but look like men. Huge men. Aliens are called Aulearians. There are only male species and they're dying out. Most are born in a cryogenic chamber. However few are lucky enough to be born. And that's the one thing all Aulearians are looking for. Their one and only fated mate. There's only one human female in the world that is their fated mate. Main problem is they need to find her. Once they do nothing can stop them from mating with her. Oh, and it's not just one male. Every male belongs to a triad. 3 men in a triad. And they go into a mating rage when they see or scent her. Some keep harems trying to find her. The men are so protective of their mate.
Anyway, every book centers around them finding their mate.
I can't wait to start another series of Corin containing these Aliens.

I’m enthralled!!!!

Ok, so.. I do not leave reviews often and when I usually do it’s a negative. That’s because I take peoples reviews into consideration when choosing. That said, this time I’m leaving a 5* positive!!
I had trouble with the first 3-4 books. There was a lot of repetition and I was getting frustrated thinking they would all be like that and I was unsure I wanted to continue with it. BUT.. there was a spark of something that kept me coming back. No not the sex although there is plenty of it and I consider it one of the best aspects of this series. The BEST aspect is the actual underlying story that connects each book. I won’t give spoilers but each book gets better and I got through this series in a matter of days even though I think there are 9 books?! If your looking for an AMAZING series that will keep you enthralled THIS US IT!!! I can’t wait to continue with Corin Cain’s books!

It reads like a *really* specific and unedited role play between 3 millde school boys. The world building and the story are disjointed and disconnected. Yet, somehow, it's written to be the fault of the Queen rather than the centuries of evolution for these supposed 'True Mates' that the species needs to survive. It's just a poorly written book with a truly great concept. Unfortunately, this time, the storyline could not hold up. I really wanted it to, I really wanted to like it. It's just very lackluster in the way it fits with middle school mentality thay got ahold of a few too many adult fantasy stories.

Aurelian's "Yes, please!!!!

Aurelian's are awesome. They live thousands of year's, oncetheyfind theirfated mate therelifespanextends to match theirs. Fated mates, soul mates, whatever you want to call it are amazing human females. Everyone is looking for love & these books give it to you in spades. I think almost every woman would love to be a fated mate to an Aurelian as you don't just get one hottie. You get a triad, all the love & adventures you want & babies with 3 daddies to help out. Haha, I love these stories & and yes, you have to read them in order for them to make sense. Enjoy XxxX

Captive Mates

Lost half a star for each of the following:

- Shallow characters who don’t communicate despite having a bond sharing their emotions.
- Using the feisty female troupe poorly ie she accepts undeserved punishment with a twisted BDSM-ish thrum that insults a lifestyle.
- Repetitive to the point I skimmed chapters, sexy times and looked forward to any bit of the actual plot I could find.
- Lack of affection between mates. Lust and repetitive possession are all this series offers.
-Cliffhanger resolved in a separate book

Rating changed to 1 star for the following:
- Cliffhanger on a “completed series”

Barely Put it Down!

I read this in less than 2 weeks because I could not stop reading! There are a few spelling and grammar mistakes that had me rereading some paragraphs to figure out what it was supposed to say, but it wasn't enough for me to stop reading. The universe that the author is great and I wish there was a bit more to a couple of the stories. Definitely recommend if you like hot romances! 🔥

DNF the first book. I like CNC in some circumstances, however, this felt like too much, and the constant inner monologue of the FMC saying "Human women just can't help but want to be submissive and dominated by these brutal aliens" or whatever it was stated over and over again in different, but also the same ways, made me shudder. No. Just no. No shame in your game if this is the kind of thing you like, it just was not for me.

Couldn't Finish

There were a lot of grammar and spelling issues. The author was too repetitive; stating things over repeatedly. I wanted to like the story but the repetition was repetitive. I'm using sarcasm but that wasn't far off base. The idea is great but the story takes too long to progress and the ending is obviously hea but the fmc is annoying. With editing I can see this being a great series but I couldn't get pass book one.

Good plot, good spice not so good editing!!! Edit

The misuse and misspelling of words changes things. Eye color, which is important to the story gets mixed up. I made it through all 2854 pages. It was good read but would have been fantastic if it had been edited. I feel like the lack of editing makes you feel like you can't trust where the author intends to take you.

I only read the first story in this collection and couldn’t do the rest. It was supposed to be a fated mate story yet she didn’t really love or trust her mates. I feel her feelings were only due to being bonded. She chose a broken sibling who could have got treatment elsewhere over her fated mates. Yes, definitely not her sister’s fault but visiting her sister once in a while, would have been better than abandoning your “ fated mate”. Some make like it, but it just didn’t do it for me.

DNF I really tried to finish this one, but I just couldn’t. It’s entirely too repetitive. There should be an abridge version. The inner monologues just repeat themselves over and over, but it doesn’t add anything to the story. I was finally fed up with having to skip over the repetition & gave up towards the end of the first book. ☹️

The concept was intriguing, and there were parts I thoroughly enjoyed, but overall it felt underdeveloped. The pacing was inconsistent, with a few slow chapters that were hard to get through. Some characters shone, while others felt like afterthoughts. It’s a decent read, but I expected a bit more polish.

There were moments of brilliance here, but they were few and far between. The narrative was engaging at times but often lost focus. Some chapters were a joy to read, while others felt like a chore. It’s not a bad read, but it’s not something I’d revisit. Worth a try, but temper your expectations.

I read the first book only. It was ok. The female lead was very frustrating, and I didn’t feel any depth or real connection with the triad until the epilogue, which wasn’t included with the original book. I will definitely not be reading the other books in the series.

overkill

The author spends so much time reiterating the same sentiments over and over again it seems to just drag out a scene. So much so that I could basically skip ahead in reading because I knew what was being written verbatim.
