Jackson Pierce, a discharged ex-military marine, is the new RCA at Clarkston, Michigan post office. The line between right and wrong becomes blurred when a traumatic memory is unearthed by the actions of an adulterous husband.
I enjoyed reading Rural Route 8. There are SA, mental health triggers for some. I enjoyed the author’s writing style. This was my first novel written by her. I still have unanswered questions, so I need to read part 2 to clarify who “Buddy”is.
"Rural Route 8" is a heartfelt and gripping tale that delves into the complexities of morality and community life through the eyes of Jackson Pierce, an ex-military marine turned rural postal carrier. E. Raye Turonek beautifully captures the charm of Clarkston, Michigan, where Jackson’s friendly demeanor and dedication to his job quickly endear him to the residents. However, as he navigates the challenges of small-town dynamics and confronts his own haunting past, the story takes a deep and thought-provoking turn.
Turonek’s writing is both poignant and evocative, successfully immersing readers in the emotional struggles and moral dilemmas faced by the characters. The plot’s tension escalates as Jackson wrestles with the blurred lines between right and wrong, especially when traumatic memories resurface due to unexpected actions from those around him. This compelling narrative encourages readers to ponder the extent to which one's desire to do good can lead to unintended consequences, making it a relevant and engaging read.
Overall, "Rural Route 8" is a masterclass in character development and storytelling, offering a rich blend of drama, introspection, and a sense of community that will resonate with anyone who appreciates well-crafted literature. This book deserves every bit of its 5-star rating for its emotional depth, relatable characters, and the critical questions it raises about honor, loyalty, and the human experience. Highly recommended!
Now that was a wild ass ride! Who you think is the good guy, is the good guy and bad guy! I can’t wait to read part 2, so many unanswered questions, definitely need to know what happens next. Instead of a woman scorned, it’s a man! Why all the fine men have to be crazy??
Rural Route 8 was my first E. Raye Turonek read. I was not disappointed.
We meet Jackson Pierce as he unexpectedly heads home from the war due to an injury. To his surprise, he doesn’t receive a warm welcome. Faced with the reality that his wife has been unfaithful, Jackson loses his cool and ultimately finds himself discharged from his branch of service.
Life at war ensures that you witness much more than anyone ever should so it’s no surprise that Jackson is more than likely suffering from PTSD. In need of employment and desperate to reunite with his daughter, he begins medication to deal with the side effects of war and his volatile temper.
He lands a job as a mail carrier and juggling his mental health, co-workers, ex-wife, and temper becomes too much. He soon finds himself privy to the business of everyone he delivers mail to and uncovers a deep, dark secret his co-worker is hiding. Within a few days of the job, Jackson is pushed to the point of no return and everyone around him will pay.
Although I enjoyed this book, there were certain aspects I didn’t fully understand ie. ‘Buddy” so I may re-read it for more context.
Have you ever wondered what your Rural Route Driver does after hours or what's really going on in their heads? Being a military daughter I really enjoyed this book, the main character (Jackson) where do I begin. Charming with ladies and helpful on his route but that other side of Jackson whew Chile. The twists, plots and other characters will have you thinking you've figured it out but here comes another hanger. Each chapter left you wanting more it's very Suspenseful Scicotic Dramatic Real Creepy & Attention Holder/Grabber. This read will leave you with questions and your mouth hung open
This is one of those books that reminds you that everyone is out there living a life you know nothing about. Sometimes, even the nicest and seemingly well-meaning people are hiding secrets and issues of their own. I totally didn't expect this to go the way it did and expected way more of a vigilante type situation, but instead was given a main character with mental health issues and a twisted sense of justice combined with a ton of side characters with misdeeds and secrets of their own.
I thoroughly enjoyed Rural Route 8. It’s fast paced, gritty and twisty. The story is original with both satisfying and head shaking resolutions. I couldn’t put it down and finished in one day. I’m looking forward to part 2.
This was an interesting read. The folks on the route were just as messed up and full of skeletons in their closets. By the end I was looking for lots of folks to get what was coming to them.
Absolutely love this book. Can't wait to read #2. I enjoy books that use vivid detailed writing. It makes it seem as if I'm watching a suspenseful movie.👍🏾👍🏾
We start out learning about Lance Corporal Pierce in his last days of his deployment. But the things that go on after his "retirement" rival his war time. You never know that goes on in the peoples' heads. And you for sure can't tell what anyone does when you're not around especially your co-workers.
We meet the postal carriers and clerks but also the mail recipients of Rural Route 8. And they're all crazy. The things these people have endured and actions they have taken will have your jaw dropping. AND talking to yourself, or the characters at least, I know I was.
