Welcome to the hilarious WORLD of Harper Drew... there's a whole lot of DRAMA, but luckily she has tried and tested methods to deal with it! Perfect for fans of Dork Diaries. Book two in the series.
My name is Harper Drew. I wasn't sure I was going to carry on with this journal. I started it in the summer holidays to write down the mayhem happening around me. I thought it might have calmed down by now but I should have known better!
For starters there is a snake on the loose in my neighbourhood - a 6ft Python called Betty to be exact, my dad's decided to re-tile the bathroom and NOBODY is allowed in there, and my older brother Troy seems to be constantly kitted out in expensive designer clothing. I'm the only one who has noticed he's acting shifty ...
But I need to focus on organising a talent show to raise money for the local foodbank. It's going to be great ... apart from the fact Troy seems to care more about gaining more followers, aka his "DesTroyers" on his YouTube channel, than he does about helping me out.
Can Harper find a way to show her brother that kindness is more important than being popular?
The start of a relatable new illustrated series, all about embracing your family, and finding unique ways to deal with life's dramas.
Before starting work on her children’s fiction series, Kathy had quite a few jobs. She was better at some than others.
She has worked on the music counter at WH Smith, been an investment banker, a waitress, a property developer, investigated missing millions for The Sultan of Brunei, founded a successful consulting business, worked for HM Treasury restructuring banks, oh….and cooked dinners at a care home for the elderly.
But her love of writing was sparked when collaborating on the best-selling children’s non-fiction titles You Are Awesome (April 2018) and Dare to be You (September 2020) with Matthew Syed. Kathy believes that children should all have confidence in their own potential, and not be limited by the beliefs they (or others) hold about themselves. With this in mind she has worked with both primary and secondary schools on confidence and resilience building programmes for young people.
Kathy’s new fiction series reveals the diary of Harper Drew and the frustrations, mishaps and headaches that crop up often with her crazy family and tricky friends at school. Harper is a zany, feisty and funny girl but she is smart enough to see through the madness which seems to be happening all around her.
Echt...
I love this series! The books are so funny and brilliant! They’re also really quick to read too. I think although I liked the first one more than this second one, I would still give this one 4.25 stars!
A brilliant story for all children. Yes, I'm 28 but even I still enjoyed this one. It is illustrated throughout in black and white and an easy, fun and silly read in parts. A snake is on the lose and there is a huge reward for its capture. Theres a bit of family drama involved which happens in all families and is happily resolved by the end of the book and a huge, successful fundraiser for those who need it most. A brilliant story to be enjoyed by all. I have not read book one before this and would say this read perfectly fine as a standalone for me. Highly recommend. A well deserved four stars from me.
Harper and her friends are planning a talent show to raise funds for the local food bank. When Troy does something stupid, it becomes even more essential for Harper that the talent show be a success. All this while Harper's dad tries (unsuccessfully) to mend the bathroom tiles, her mom develops a new obsession, her grandfather gets banned from the supermarket and...there's a python on the loose in the neighbourhood!
Written in a diary format, the book follows the drama and antics of the Drew family, recorded by Harper, middle child and probably the only sane person in the family (except for her little brother, The Prune, but he's still young so there's time for that to change).
The book literally had me laughing out loud. Not only are the events hilarious but the writing is so witty, making an already funny situation even funnier. The illustrations are brilliant at both portraying the characters accurately and capturing the humour in the story. Harper herself is an endearing main character; she's smart, kind, thoughtful and funny. Her family members, friends and various other side characters are just as well crafted and even the very minor characters make quite an impression.
This is one of those series I enjoyed as much as an adult as I would have as a child and I'm already waiting in eager anticipation for book three (and hopefully many, many more). Kathy Weeks, you have a new fan!😁
