Cowboy Homecoming #4

Cowboy, Hold Me Forever

Rate this book
Will an abandoned horse bring her the cowboy of her dreams?

Con’s life is tough. She’s grown up fast and given up on more dreams than she can remember. But when she rescues an abandoned horse, she begins to remember what she used to dream about—a strong, silent cowboy standing right by her side.

Sayer doesn’t do commitment. And when Con asks for help with her horse, he can’t say no fast enough. But she’s determined to save her horse, and he can’t help the feelings that bloom as he watches… or the need to help he can’t resist.

Con knows all dreams come to an end. There’s no happily ever after with her cowboy, no matter how much he ties her up in knots and makes her wish for more. But this time, maybe there’s a chance. If she’s brave enough to dream again.

The first two books in this series did not go well for me but I wanted to give it one last shot since Con is the FMC. She was pragmatic and a go-getter when she appeared in her sisters’ books, co-dependency aside. Unfortunately, Con’s pragmatism didn’t line up with the horse girl stuff in this book. Her irrationality over the horse never added up for me and the rest of the book felt pretty rote. It’s unfortunate because I’ve loved Turner’s other series. Part of what trips me up on this one is the role of magic in the books themselves but also because the series are interconnected and we get cameos from other characters who never dealt with any magic. For whatever reason, Turner added magic to this series but detracted the rich character development and interiority I depended on her for. I hope her next series is a better fit for me.

Characters: Con is a 35 year old white woman and oldest sister. She rescues an abandoned horse and names him Rusty. Sayer is an almost 40 year old white rancher. This is set in Cabrillo, CA.

Content notes: codependency, MMC physically assaults a secondary character, rescue of abandoned horse (malnourished), past estrangement from MMC’s siblings, past death of FMC’s parents and great-aunt, past death of great-aunt’s husband (car accident on their honeymoon), past horse trampling (broke leg in 4 places), past childhood poverty, p-in-v sex is the only “real” sex, on page sex, alcohol, ableist language, mentions of past pandemic

Con is a thirty-five year old women with a 12 year old mind. She had a dream at 12 years old to own a horse, ride a horse, be in a horse show, and dress the part. Con never grew out of that dream. When she finds a horse in the middle of the road and Sayer stops to help her, her dream is starting to take shape. During the whole book she keep referring to her dream at 12 years old. I did not like the book and do not recommend it.

lovely story.

A nice story about the girl’s love for the horse she rescued and falling in love with the cowboy who helped.
