Nofel hwyliog ar gyfer unrhyw un sy'n hoff o stori ysgafn a chyfoes! Mae'r stori'n dilyn dau brif gymeriad, Jacob a Cadi, wrth iddyn nhw baratoi ar gyfer priodas ffrind cyffredin i'r ddau. Mae'n dechrau 7 diwrnod cyn y briodas ac yn dilyn y paratoadau hyd at y diwrnod ei hun.
CADI: Does dim angen iddo fod yn berffaith. Dwi jyst angen dêt. Dim ond am un noson.
Pan ddaeth Jacob adre o Ffrainc i briodas ei ffrind, doedd e ddim wedi dychmygu cwrdd â merch fel Cadi. Mae eu perthynas yn dechrau'n dda ond yn raddol bach mae amodau'r cytundeb rhyngddyn nhw'n cael eu torri.
A fydd rhai'n gweld trwy eu cynllun? Pam mae Jacob yn rhuthro'n ôl i Ffrainc?
Nofel gynnes, lawn hiwmor am Cadi a Jacob, a'u stori'n arwain at un noson dyngedfennol.
Would be 4.5 if GR allowed half points. Always knew I was a hopeless romantic.
'Stori Sydyn' (literally 'Sudden Stories') is a series developed by the Welsh Books Council to encourage less confident readers, whether that's folks who are out of the habit, Welsh learners, those who don't have much time to read - the general theme is 'give it a go'. Four titles are published annually - two in Welsh, two in English, and Un Noson is Llio Elain Maddocks's 2022 offering.
I can't really give this a level of difficulty because it's definitely 'above me' (as of the date of this review, I'm in Sylfaen 1 with a lot of extra study through the usual Duolingo/SSIW, S4C, reading the news etc). There is no glossary, and there's plenty of variety in vocab - Gog, De, Wenglish. But, with a bit of patience, a dictionary, and a notepad I've successfully completed and enjoyed it.
Plot-wise, there are cliches abound for chick-lit - so if that kind of thing annoys you, it might be one to avoid (alternatively if you love a good meet cute, this'll be right up your street). I particularly liked Jacob; he's level-headed and reassuringly chilled out, a nice contrast to Cadi's fretfulness, and their friendship develops organically and believably throughout. The ending is , and you can smell it a mile off, but I can forgive it. If you liked the Blodwen Jones series, you'll likely get on with Un Noson.
A lot of my enjoyment of this book came from the challenge of reading something a fair whack above my level, so as my Welsh improves, I might eventually pass this onto another learner. But it's been a cute little read, and I'd happily collect other titles in the Stori Sydyn series.
Always hard to decide on a star rating for books in Gymraeg. I don't really enjoy chicklit, so plot-wise, for my taste, meh. But I will take any opportunity to practice the language, and in that regard this was strong for me. I'm an Uwch learner, so the grammar was totally fine for me, just a few words here and there that were new to me, and a few places where a phrase was used that's the actual, more natural way people speak, not Class Speech ("gyrru tecst" vs "anfon", for example). But it was so satisfying to read a book without vocabulary on the page, as it makes me feel like I'm achieving, even though it still takes me forever compared to my reading speed in English. It's my first foray into Stori Sydyn, I'll definitely try others. Need more mysteries yn Gymraeg, though.
Rhan o'r gyfres stori sydyn. Nid peth hawdd ydi ysgrifennu stori serch sy'n argyhoeddi mewn 99 tudalen - ond mae Llio yn llwyddo! Tamiad ysgafn efo cymeriadau hoffus. Llyfr da i'w ddarllen mewn awr os am gael stori sy'n codi'r galon.
