About the author

Caryn Shender is a proud mom whose daughter was born with a rare congenital heart defect (called ALCAPA) that inspired her debut children's book, My Scar is Beautiful. Caryn personally understands the emotional impact a scar can have and hopes this book serves as a positive resource for anyone with a beautiful scar. As a first-time mom, she found her purpose in life, both personally and professionally as an author and certified sleep training consultant. She's always dreamed of helping others and making a difference has always been a driving force for her. She lives with her husband, daughter, dog and cat, all of whom give her inspiration and joy.

Amazing CHD book!

This is a wonderful book to empower kids with CHD’s and help them realize that their SCAR shows resilience, bravery, uniqueness and that they are loved! I loved how the author conveyed such a delicate topic! CHD warriors are nothing short of amazing and she does a wonderful job portraying this!

As a mom of a child with medical-related scars, I am glad this book and this message is out in the world. These children should know their strength and how courageous they are. This book will remind parents to talk about this important topic with their amazing kid!
