Broken Rules

Rate this book
After coming home to an empty house and a Dear John letter, newly-divorced Jeremy Maguire moved to the little town of Harbor's Head to start over. His one priority in life is giving his son a great childhood, but juggling parenting, a new job, and moving into a new home leaves zero time for romance. He assumes he'll be single for good...until he winds up stuck in an elevator with the hottest woman he's ever seen.

When the man she loved became an addict, Sabrina Carter did the only thing she could to protect her children: she left him and moved back to her hometown. She's dated since then but has never been able to find anyone she could trust to love her as well as her children. But a chance meeting with a gorgeous stranger in an elevator sparks to life an attraction that’s hotter than anything she’s ever known. Jeremy’s an incredible father treating her boys like they were his own. Maybe it’s time to give romance another chance...

But when Jeremy's ex-wife suddenly reappears and threatens to take his son, he's thrown into the biggest battle of his life. He's not alone, though. Sabrina's determined to hang onto the new family and love she's found. Jeremy's about to learn what it's like to fight side-by-side with someone who has the key to his heart.

Brooke writes closed-door, mildly sweary contemporary romance. A tortured artist who began writing plays in the 3rd grade, she lost her muse as a teen and struggled for years to write again. Finally, after being inspired by some old friends during the pandemic, her writing came to fruition again in what became her first published novel.

Inspired by strong women who have very little tolerance for bull, she enjoys exploring equality in relationships with broken characters who clearly have made past mistakes. Don't we all?

Heart-warming escapism!
"It would never be just a kiss with you."
Oh, wow, Broken Rules was so sweet. Jeremy and Sabrina were down to earth and their problems were presented with an air of true-to-life authenticity that I really appreciated. Lots of wonderful humor too. I think Little Nicky announcing that was my favorite part.

I read this in less than 6 hours... eyes glued to the pages, I couldn't stop! When I wasn't laughing out loud, I was tearing up or downright crying. This book touched me so deeply as a single mom. My son is my whole world and the thought of losing him sends fear through me like nothing else. And I can't deny the longing I feel for a companion and partner to help me through it all.. And the fear that that'll never happen.

Jeremy is so charming and I easily fell in love with him. Sabrina is such a strong character and mother. Her frustration and pangs as a single mom I felt to my very bones, and her strength helping Jeremy through it all, solidified them for me. I loved these two! Their blended families, the friendship of the boys.. gosh just everything. I loved this book so much and I highly recommend the read!! Please please go check it out!!

On a separate note.. I've read the reviews about the "swearing" and I'm sorry, but I scoff at that! There is not ONE f-bomb! And the few swear words that are there are tasteful and perfectly realistic for the struggles of parenting and I dare anyone else to say otherwise!! This book was perfect in every way!

Grab your favorite blanket, a soothing cup of tea and this sweet and sentimental romance novel and settle in for the kind of read that demands nothing of you except to immerse yourself in another world for a few hours. Jeremy & Sabrina are two single parents who come together to discover what real love and support should feel like. Not only from each other, but from family and friends as well. There are some great secondary characters who add a well-rounded feel to the novel.
I would have liked to read a little more about Jeremy's ex, as well as the drama and suspense towards the end of the book, but all in all this was an enjoyable read.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

What a brilliant continuation of the Maguire brothers! This time, it’s Jerry who gets his knickers in a twist this time as he tries to do what is right for him and his son. Sabrina is a curveball that he didn’t expect but totally deserves in his life.

I loved the characters Brooke has created and built up over the series. I didn’t like the ones that you’re not meant to like. I did want to slap this brother just as much as I wanted to slap the other two and I’d say wake up and smell the coffee, but man oh man, you’re clever but not so at the same time. Are most highly clever people like this? I think so! It was very well written and executed and I want more Maguire brothers’ stories to read! Not so, I think, but well, never say never!

This is a book I HAD to get on release day. Don’t miss out!

Clean Standalone Romance Interconnected Series

Best if read in order. Characters overlap throughout the series.
He's just moved with his son and starting fresh. She's working with his family and raising her two sons. There was an instant chemistry between them but will their past relationships interfere with their attempts to move forward?
Does contain some cursing.

Broken Rules is a fantastic single parent, workplace romance. I loved reading as Jeremy and Sabrina let their guards down to find both of their second chances at being happy.

I really enjoyed this one, found family is always a great sweet romance trope, and this sweet with heat story did it very well. There are fade-to-black scenes and nods to those scenes happening but I would still label this as firmly within sweet territory, but there is some language, so if that offends you, go in knowing that.
The meet cute is just that, and the relationship progresses nicely, and reasonably realistically. Watching them try to sneak around the kids is fun and all three boys are also lovable, and I'm not generally a fan of young children popping up in my romance reads.
Just enough drama to keep you turning pages and plenty of 'aww' moments to make this a great book to cuddle up with.
