This collection drawn from "Public Administration Review" and other ASPA-sponsored journals is an ideal resource for any PA course involving Leadership and Public Management. Far more than a simple anthology, the book is organized around Van Wart's unique leadership assessment model, which provides a useful framework for understanding the vast subject of leadership. Each of the book's nine main sections begins with an introductory text by the editors, followed by relevant readings. The volume includes some of the most important readings on public leadership published over the last eight decades.
I had to read this book for my doctoral program. It's not a particularly informative book, and the literature collected is not mind-blowing. That said, it is organized much better than most books on the subject and will make writing papers pretty simple. If you're quote farming, this is your book. If you're trying to actually learn something, look elsewhere.
