I read A Teacher’s Top Secret Confidential by LaNesha Tabb on the second day of school, and it was the perfect follow-up to our first day together. The book is written like a fun, top-secret mission, and my students were instantly hooked. The idea that they were “chosen” for a special classroom mission made them feel important, seen, and excited to be part of something meaningful.

It was also a great way to reinforce our classroom community values without sounding too serious. The tone is light and playful, but the message is powerful: everyone belongs here.

After reading, we talked about what it means to be part of a team, and several students mentioned how cool it was to be “picked on purpose.” I could tell it really resonated.

I highly recommend this book for any elementary teacher—it’s engaging, positive, and helps build classroom culture right from the start. I’ll definitely be using it every year!
