Where do you turn to when you need hope, encouragement, and comfort during your most difficult times? God's Word is the best p lace to start. When you are faced with grief and pain, it's often hard to find comfort and support. God's Promises ® During Times of Trouble provides 50 topics of select biblical promises of comfort and hope during the difficulties that leave us wanting and needing healing and reassurance. Whether you're struggling with illness, loss, divorce, confusion, doubt, and more, the promises found in God's Word bring abundant encouragement, inspiration, and hope. A volume in the popular God's Promises ® line of resources, this keepsake expanded edition Scripture is one of the most powerful tools for finding hope and inspiration to uplift and nourish your heart and soul through life's most challenging times.
This book could be very helpful for someone in the right situation, but it is totally unoriginal. The book collects various Scriptures in themed lists based on different life struggles, and there are short excerpts from popular Christian authors at the beginning of each section. The excerpts are all reprints, not anything new that someone wrote for this book, and the only new material this book offers is the page or two of reflection questions at the end of each section. These are fairly repetitive throughout the book.
Some of the editorial decisions raised red flags for me, quoting verses out of context and/or presenting them as promises specific to the reader when they reflect more general principles or were promises given to a particular person or group at a historic time. The vast majority of the Bible verses here reflect God's promises writ large, but someone who is curious about Christianity or new to the faith could be easily misled to expect things from God that He never promised specifically to them. This is most egregious in the chapter about health, which quotes multiple verses out of context.
This book could be just the right thing for someone who is going through a hard time, and it reprints encouraging and meaningful Bible verses in a way that is easy to read, but I would not particularly recommend it. There are far better, more original Christian books on this subject, or someone can just read the Bible.
