As a child Menaka Raman used to write far-fetched stories about birthday parties, water parks and floating cake disasters. Since then, her life has been a series of fortunate events that led her far away from becoming a software engineer and set her back on the path of writing. She is a former advertising copywriter who chucked creating ads for plastic chairs and time share holidays to write about other things. She has been a newspaper columnist for over a decade now and enjoys working with non-profits. She is the author of nine picture books for children including Gappu Can’t Dance, Lenin’s Guests and I Love Me. Her short stories have appeared in anthologies published by Talking Cub, Scholastic India and Penguin UK. She lives in Bangalore with her husband, two children and dog. When she is not killing plants and walking Woody the dog, she is eating Nutella straight from the jar.
SYNOPSIS Sachit's parents have recently shifted from Mumbai to Bangalore and he does not like his new school here. He plans to escape from school along with two other kids. The escape turns out to be an adventure of sorts.
#bookhoarderreview Sachit's story was fun to read and both, my son and I, enjoyed it. He had a good laugh while it made me nostalgic. As much as the story was interesting, so were the illustrations. It simply made the entire reading experience very picturesque.
As a parent, reading this book and understanding Sachit's feelings about shifting to a new place made me realise the importance of 'Say & Do' to the kids. Through the story, the author subtly mentions how one fine day Sachit was told about the huge change coming to his life without any preparation. We often tend to ignore these little things amidst all the big decisions.
I recommend this book for children as well as parents.

Sachit, Hari and Kris are in quest of freedom and three are trying so hard to escape from the school. This book is actually reflecting the child’s unfiltered view about schools and various layers of inner pressures they undergo inside the four walls. Be it peer pressure, the raw urge of a child who is hoping for the school to end soon.
The author vividly captures the hilarious moments of kid’s mischievous acts in the school.
A must read for all ages and especially for the ardent class bunkers who always dream about bunking the class and say, “Shabbaa … what a great escape”!

Ok! I know I’m a grown up adult and I’m allowed to read and enjoy children books..okay? Let’s go ahead🫣
“Sachit”-a naughty kid who recently moved to this new city and joined“Wunderkind” academy-which he doesn’t like by the way. He wanted nothing but to go back to the previous city they were living. Sachit got too tired of the school, their rules, the “Maths” word problems (come on..we know they are of no help for the future😂)..and he decided to escape from the school. And two of the other kids also wanted to escape but for different reasons..together they came up with a plan. Did they execute properly and escaped from school is what this cute little book is all about.
It’s perfect book for kids for a fun, illustrations filled read. The little twist in the ending..I didn’t see it coming though! Smiled my heart out while reading this “hole” book.
Thank you Penguin random house for the review copy!
