Spring is in the Chancey air—almost. Spring means planning. Planning for gardens, weddings, babies, and spring break. But first comes the North Georgia Book Festival with a surprise author, who is celebrated by everyone. Well, everyone that hasn’t read her books. Carolina is busy with the book festival, but she can’t help noticing how so many of the lives around her are veering off course. She’s sure she knows how they can all be happy, but they don’t seem to want her help. If only they would let her move them around, like the pieces on the new chessboard in Blooming Books! Meanwhile, Carolina’s daughter, Savannah, is having trouble getting all the pieces to her elaborate spring break plans to stay in place, and Missus finds being mayor doesn’t mean everyone sticks to her plan, even if she puts it in a proclamation. They’re all wondering if Laney might have the best idea: “Sometimes the only way to win is to flip the board in the air and stomp off.”
“A new voice in Southern Fiction” is how a recent reviewer labels Kay Dew Shostak’s debut novel, "Next Stop, Chancey".
After being raised in a small-town in Tennessee, Kay lived around the country in a variety of settings. Taking a look at the familiar and loved from new perspectives led Kay to see, and then write about, the absurd, the beautiful, and the funny in her South.
After publishing several stories in compilation books and spending a few years in journalism, Kay wandered into writing fiction and found it hard to leave. She currently is working on the fourth book in the Chancey series and living in Fernandina Beach, Florida with her husband.

I can hardly wait for the next book in the series to come out and this one didn’t disappoint! New characters, old characters, new twists…. Write fast Kay!
It was fun to visit with old friends again! I just wish there was less time between books. I forgot who some of the newer characters were. Now I'm left hanging!! The next book would be a nice Christmas present. Hint, hint.
I think this one is my favorite. I just love the new characters. I love the direction the story is going. Gussie adds so much peace & calm to Chancey. I honestly feel a physical energy shift when she appears in the story. The character development is amazing.
This is another fun book in the Chances series. They really make life in a Georgia mountain town sound fun and intriguing. I love following the characters and seeing what they are up to.
I think this might’ve been my favorite book in the whole series. It was an easy read and I really love some of the new characters. Can’t wait for the next book!
