Little Henri in Sourland is a psychedelic comic that plays clear homage to Winsor McCay's timeless Little Nemo strip. Henri Dumas' meticulous linework is worth the price of admission alone, but the reading experience is still fairly smooth for such a hallucinogenic and formless narrative. Dumas' panel layouts deviate significantly from McCay's patented style, such that this doesn't really read like a comic strip. Outside of the dreamlike narrative, there isn't too much else to tie it to Little Nemo in Slumberland which was a choice I appreciated.

The story is a trip through a dreamscape that is meant to be played off as some kind of revelatory experience, but I can't fully say I grasped what the learnings here were. Nonetheless, the scripting is pretty easy to read through and I can say this generally reads better than most other comics that elicit similar amorphous narratives. The surreal artwork alone should be the draw to this rather well crafted comic.
