Misty Milton didn’t plan on rescuing kittens, 'borrowing' a vintage Mustang for a 1,700 mile road trip or befriending a faded rock star.
And she certainly didn’t plan on being accused of murder...
Misty needs a new start.
Fresh out of a break-up from her cat-hating husband of 25 years, she journeys from Kansas to the small beach town of Quinn, California with the hope of a new beginning.
A cute little chilled-out beach town.
The perfect place to raise her fur-babies, and start the gourmet cat food business she dreamed of.
But it seems someone in Quinn doesn’t like outsiders…
And when one of her wealthy clients is murdered, Misty finds herself framed for the crime.
With the help of her feline sidekicks, she must find the culprit and prove her innocence.
This was such a fun mystery and really cool how Misty made her clandestine escape from her mentally abusive, control freak husband. From doing a good deed for the feds to meeting an ex-rock star to where she ended up in a sweet small California town, Misty had quite the mixed-up adventure.
I just love the names of Misty's two adopted cats, too much fun! When she finally settled in at Quinn, California, I couldn't believe the hospitality of some of the people especially Hank. What an awesome guy who'd helped more people in Quinn who'd been in a bad place or tight spot. Misty was really blessed that he took a liking her to her, and they made good sleuthing buddies too!
I can't wait to read the first book because of how this prequel ended! I was about on the edge of the chair after that thinking "Noooooo!"
I got the book free during a BookFunnel author promotion, and I voluntarily chose to review it after enjoying it.
Cats and people The cats can tell you who is to be trusted. You don’t have to guess. After a sweet loving married woman was deceived by her abusive husband, she takes her new cats and drives across the western US. From there on, Sheba’s adventuures she never expected
This was a delightful cozy mystery with Misty and her two shelter cats, Doofus and Floofus, playing as the detectives. Misty ran away from her abusive husband in Kansas and ended up in Quinn, California where she started a pet food business. She is living her dream after becoming friends with Hank who owns most of the town. When one of Misty's clients is murdered after she delivers the special food she made for his show cat and the police suspect her, she and Hank work together to find the killer. I loved the characters and the exciting way the mystery was solved. I highly recommend this book as a cozy mystery that keeps you reading from beginning to end. I received a free copy and this is my voluntary and honest review.
The Sneaky Seashore Slayer by Audrey Clementine is a cute cozy about a woman who leaves her abusive husband. She travels across country on her own. She meets a friendly guy at a motel she is staying at who offers to set up an email account for her, and help her get her banking online. The FBI makes contact with her and asks for her help in apprehending this guy. After that’s over she heads west again. She lands in a small town in California and decides to stay there with her cats. She ends up with a murder to investigate. Delightful characters and charming story.
This read is a prequel to a new cozy mystery series. When Misty's husband forbids her to keep the two cats she has just rescued from the animal shelter she volunteers at, that is the last straw. She up and leaves her controlling, abusive husband and heads West. She settles in Quinn , CA , near the shore. This was a fun quick read and a good beginning of a new cozy mystery series.
This was a fun story that had a wonderful storyline! My granddaughter loved the front and thought it was a book for her! So I read it and told her a version and she was happy!
This is a fun book. Misty takes off with her cats to start a new life & make & sell special cat treats. Somehow she finds her feet, gets accused of murder & lots more!
A very enjoyable quick read. A bit predictable but fun nevertheless. I have enjoyed meeting Misty, Doofus and Floofus and look forward to the next book.
A fast paced fun short mystery introducing us to forty something Misty Milton and her cats Doofus and Floofus as they hit the road to California after her husband, the dragon otherwise known as Ben, tells her it's the cats or him. She made the right choice!
Leaving an abusive relationship Misty settles into a small town on the California coast where she establishes a gourmet pet food business and one of her best customers is murdered and she is the first suspect. Great little read with Misty and Hank playing detectives and solving the case.
Misty Milton has had enough of her life in Kansas with an abusive husband. She makes the decision to finally leave him. She takes their vintage Mustang car, rescues two kittens and heads to the small town of Quinn, California.
Starting over isn’t easy, but Misty is determined to make it work. She starts her own gourmet pet food business and quickly finds her client list is growing. Then, tragedy strikes. One of her clients is murdered and she’s the prime suspect.
Misty fights for her freedom, as well as her new business. Fortunately, her new kitties are great judges of character and help her discover the bad guys.
This is a prequel to a fun cat cozy mystery. I’ve seen this series around and have wanted to read it. I figured the prequel is a good way to decide if I like the series. I do! In fact, I loved it.
Misty is a strong character, but at the same time she’s willing to accept help when needed. She’s surrounded by a supportive cast and the setting is perfect.
It’s a fast-paced novella that kept me guessing. I didn’t figure things out until Misty did. I can already see this is a series I’m going to love. How can it miss with two adorable kitties?
Disclosure: I received a free ebook through the author’s promotion. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
The Curious Corpse in the Cavern - I was surprised that this book was so much better than the previous two books of this series. The characters are likeable and better in their thoughts and actions. Good story lines for a cozy. Of course, there are a lot of confessions. 4*
The Crabby Cadaver at the Christmas Carnival - Well, it is a Christmas road trip to Vermont. I made it part way through chapter six before I had enough. They passed themselves off as police consultants from CA, and Misty thought she would need more help when all the townspeople became suspect. The CA bunch are good characters but everything is sappy, silly or ... Cozyland. 3*
The Sneaky Seashore Slayer - This is a Cozy, simplistic and the killer emotionally confesses. The names of the cats are horrible choices so I used Flo and Doo instead of the insulting ones. Good characters but the dialog was sappy, silly or rushed. Not a bad read, good for a break to give the brain a rest. 3*
This book is written in first person narrative, through the eyes of the main character, Misty Milton. She has been the victim of an abusive husband, and when given the ultimatum of giving up her two, newly adopted cats or her husband, she plucks up the courage to leave the marriage and her old life. Her new life is eventful from the start, as she helps, the FBI capture a criminal, and she finds her way to the town of Quinn, and begins to get to know Hank. He helps her set up her new business, which is gourmet pet food, but before long a murder occurs. Misty’s life has become exciting as she determines to solve the crime. I love the build up to Misty’s life in Quinn and how Clementine developed the plot to make this a very enjoyable read. Does Misty solve the murder and get her man? You’ll have to read the book to find out!
I read the first book in the series before I read this one. While I loved book one, this one... Not so much. The writing was very stilted and not like normal ppl would actually talk. For one, there was soooo much of it is rather than it's and lots of other words that would've been a lot more believable had they been written as contractions. Second, the use of names was irritating! When one person was talking to another, their name was mentioned after almost every sentence. Yes Hank no Hank yes Misty it's a great idea Misty. Ppl don't usually use someone's name so much in real life conversation. And I kind of had an issue with how Misty got to Quinn, met Hank, and then BAM. They're in love. Really? And lastly, this story could've used a better editor.
Misty Milton has left her abusive husband. She has Doofus and Floofus her newly adopted cats for company. She stops at a nice hotel that is pet friendly. While there, the FBI contact her. They need her help with her neighbor at the hotel. He isn't a nice man like Misty thought he was. Misty and her two cats leave there and end up in Quinn California. There she meets some nice and not so nice people. Hank Newnam comes to her rescue a few times and helps her start her Purr-Bread business. Cat and dog gourmet food. But when Daniel Amersham is found dead, Misty is caught in the middle. Can the real killer be caught and the reason for the killing be reveled? I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
As a cat lover and a mystery lover, I really enjoyed The Sneaky Seashore Slayer. This is the prequel to Curious Corpse in the Cavern, Book 1 of the Misty Milton series. Loved that one too. Misty is a terrific character. She fought her way out of an abusive marriage and is strong and determined to make a new life for herself on her terms. Her cats Floofus and Doofus are funny and so cute. The small town of Quinn on the California coast is exactly the place Misty has been looking for to start her new life and a new business. Handsome Hank, prominent resident, is very helpful to Misty. And he's her love interest, which is great. I will definitely read more Misty Milton books.
WOW! This was soooo good. I really enjoyed learning about Misty and Ben and where she came from and how and why she left.
Then the stop at the motel with the FBI, I thought for sure they were working for Ben. I loved that little storyline.
Then came Quinn, California and Hank. My only question was did Hank ever date/sleep with the doctor? If I were Misty I would want to know. I felt like the ending was rushed a bit but it was good.
I can’t wait for the next one, which I have on audio. How this one ended with Ben has me ready for more.
Doofus and Floofus are the best. I wish my cats were like that and would go places with me.
This is a quick, breezy, enjoyable read. Misty leaves her abusive husband and heads to California with her two cats. Once she settles in the small seaside town of Quinn she quickly gets involved in solving a murder.
The characters are interesting and the mystery is believable. I would have given it another star but the writing is kind of stilted in places and Misty has a bad habit of going into the houses/hotel rooms of men she has just met (innocently) which seems a little unrealistic in this day and age.
This was a delightful quick read as the beginning to a new series! Misty has spent years being a good wife to a controlling and abusive husband. When she adopts two cats from the local shelter, he forbids her to keep them. That was the final straw so she takes her cats and hits the road to make a new life for herself. As she encounters some unique situations as she travels across the country, we see just how strong she really is. I loved this story and can’t wait to read more in this series!
A new crazy good series is now waiting for you to enjoy. The array of characters are so colorful and quirky and one or two down right deceateful and deadly while the characters at first will draw you in wanting to get to know them better the mystery will entice you further along with its intrigue and the plot will carry you through out with its engaging drama until you reach the unexpected and climatic conclusion . Acquire " The Sneaky Seashore Slayer " today so you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. 🤣😏😊😃 Kat
This is the first in the series. The main character is Misty. Misty comes home with a couple of kittens and her hubby tells her to get rid of them or he's gone. So Misty decides she will go instead. The marriage was pretty bad and she knew she would be better off if she left. She made it to Quinn , Cali. With the help of an important man, she starts a business making good food for animals. Then she finds herself in the middle of murder investigation. With the help of her friend, they figure out who did it, but it might be too late ?
An introduction to Misty Milton’s new life and business. The mystery itself is rather short, as half the book is just getting Misty and her cats to her new town and life, but it’s good. I already read a little bit ahead by reading other stories first, but a good introduction to Misty and why she is how she is. I look forward to more mysteries as she rebuilds herself a better life than she had before.
