Andrew Adam’s Symposium of the Reaper is collection of horror themed short stories. The thirteen tales pull inspiration from classic horror anthologies such as Tales from the Crypt, and The Vault of Horror. At 121 pages, Symposium of the Reaper is light reading for fans of heavy subjects. The stories are quick paced and imaginative, and Adam’s inspirational sources of serialized horror shows and Black Metal is evident I really enjoyed this one.
"Symposium" is a collection of 13 stories...all written in a variety of styles. I enjoyed Dance Macabre the best. I assume the book was privately published, as there is no author information or publishing information. I see the book has spawned two sequels....
Although the stories were mildly interesting, I doubt if I'll bother with books 2 or 3. Nothing I would bother to read again...but a quiet way to spend an hour or two....
So imagine if Goosebumps wasn't just for younger readers, that it had been made more adult, well here you go, this is the book for you. There are some short stories in here that I would love to see as a full novel/tv show, there is just the right amount of crazy, thrilling, creepy and downright addictive stories within the pages, mixed with a deeper range of meanings and emotions, some creepy characters and a whole range of settings waiting to be read. You can't even begin to guess at some of the plots, which makes it such a fun read. I really can't wait to see what the next volume has in store, I would recommend finding spare time, as I was not able to put this book down by choice.

Attention attention dear horror story lovers. If you are eager for the fast approaching spooky season and look for a book to accompany your nights and perhaps offer a few nightmares along the way, then search no more. Andrew Adams with 'Symposium of the Reaper', has got you covered.
Get ready to dive into 13 short stories of utterly creepy atmospherics and experience genuine chills down your spine courtesy of the talented Mr Adams.
These little creepfests are stories written in distinctive styles and sequenced in order to resemble the experience of listening to an album. Or the equivalent of a scary horror roller-coaster thrill-ride, one that you will enjoy and yet leave you shaken at the finale.
The writing is straight forward and impactful as the chills down your spine are delivered on a constant basis, and trust me there are some scary stuff happening there.
The overall atmospherics of the stories is like taking the wonderful and fun creepiness of 'Tales From the Crypt' and injecting the old school raw horror intensity of 'Evil Dead' resulting in pure horror fun.
Even though I adored every story in this anthology, I especially loved, just a bit more, 'Necrotic Frolic'. It packed all the dread and creepy factor to make it crawl under my skin and probably stay there..
'Holy Matrimony 'and 'Gallows Humor ' are two other delightfully delicious and eerily weird little tales that pack a punch and make you wonder... what if....
Grip your pillow tight and dive deep into this terrific anthology of horrors. It's a wonderful and wild right, one that you will enjoy to the max.
Symposium of the Reaper” by Andrew Adams is a horror book that contains several short stories set in different places and indifferent times. All the stories amount to 13 and each of them is a new reason to feel your heartbeat pacing. There is a new setting, sometimes a graveyard, clubs, stores, houses, trees, and bird noises of course playing the major effect, in every story. There is no need to explain the stories, they are for you to read and feel the shiver go down your spine. For me, it has become my best horror collection of the year. Read it and let me know your thoughts.
Andrew Adams has written each story with a such new plot and new suspense in them that the reader will see no repentance at all. The reader will have to, according to me, read one story at a time if they want to sleep in the night. While it is a scary book, it is also very entertaining. It will make you feel completely uncontrollably laughing at times and times gasping for breath. It is a proper rollercoaster ride for every reader. My favourites are two- “Dance Macabre” and “Closed Doors, Open Windows.” The stories are captivating and the book as a whole is a five-star read. I was hooked every time I began a new story. Read it to discover your favourite.
“Symposium of the Reaper is for fans who grew up loving Goosebumps books, but would have preferred if some of them were rated R rather than PG.” this sentence is in the description of the book and this was enough to make me buy this. I had a loving-frightening relationship with Goosebumps as a child and I always wanted more of it. This book keeps up with the hopes of the reader. It is a perfect fit for horror book readers.

Review: I absolutely loved this entire horror anthology! It says quite a lot about me because I am not a big reader on horror but these all of the short stories were written so well and the way they ended it left me staring at the pages because I was shocked the way it ended! I do agree if you were a big fan of Goosebumps groaning up and wish it was rated R than this is definitely for you! This is also good for people who love short stories or want to get back into them! If you want to be scared from a book this is a good Halloween Read for sure! I would love to read more short horror stories from Andrew Adams!
Thank you emstar booktours for the opportunity to read this book!
Symposium of the Reaper is a collection of horrifically brilliant short stories, that is sure to make your skin crawl. What an excellent read for #spookyseason. Highly recommend! While I loved them all, my favorite was Gallows Humor! Check this out!

Another amazing book from Andrew Adams!! It's always guaranteed I'm in for a wild ride, full of surprises!
The narration by Chadwick Poulsen as well is so perfect, one of the best I've listened to so far making the audiobook a unique experience.. Not to mention the background sounds and music that create the perfect creepy and eerie atmosphere for such a collection of horror stories!
The stories themselves are very original and as I walked my dog listening to it I was completely absorbed, wanting to keep walking and walking just to continue listening to them!
I have so many favourites but probably Holy Matrimony, Art Class and The Boy Who Feared Everything stayed with me for different reasons. I'll definitely read the book also as I want to savour these stories again!
This is for you if you like horror stories that manage to send shivers down your spine and simultaneously make you laugh, wishing you could be one of their characters!
Thanks to Andrew Adams for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest review.
Symposium of the reaper is a short horror story collection of 13 story’s my favorite being “Coulrophobia”
This collection is able to be original while also giving you the most random sensation of nostalgia.
The stories range from dark humor to some of the best gore i have read This book will have you laughing and then contemplating your life choices. Andrew has a very descriptive writing style which adds so much more to the horror he is able to completely pull you into the story
This collection is also nothing i expected at all! I expected some maybe thriller stories a little bit of horror perhaps but i was pleasantly surprised by the horror and mix of humor.
I recommend you read this collection even if you only read one or two stories (which you won’t want to stop after reading the first)
First, I want to say I really enjoyed this book. The stories and book as a whole definitely give off "Tales From The Crypt" vibes. Which I enjoyed. I also liked that every story is stand alone and that they can hold up nicely on their own. The stories start off tame but as u continue to read through each one they begin to pick up with intensity and leave u with your mouth open and jaw on the floor asking yourself if u really just read that. There are plenty of stories that are really dark, which are my favorite, but at the same time there are stories that are creepy but not over the top. It is definitely an accurate statement that this book is a roller-coaster ride full of ups, downs, and many gasps. I look forward to reading what the author puts out next.
This book is a horror anthology with 13 stories ranging from dark humor, dark irony and downright gritty and gory which is perfect for all horror fans. I thoroughly enjoyed this collection which brought me all the Tales from the Crypt, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and even some Hitchcock vibes. It was a perfect blend of humor, gore and spook. Each story was unique and completely different styles with all the spooky things that make up nightmares. Some were dark irony at play, some had dark humor having me chuckle out loud, and some were just grisly and nightmarish. This collection brought back all the nostalgia as a kid reading Scary Stories; only these are more appropriate for the parents and not the kids.
I was never a big fan of horror stories until I read this beautiful anthology of 13 short stories written in distinctive styles, that kept me active throughout the read.
This anthology was forged from the variety of tales from the Crypt and the anarchic spirit of the Evil Dead franchise. It’s just a roller coaster ride with various twists and turns. The stories are interesting and horror in nature. The writing style of the author is unique and in a flowing way.
The language is simple and easy to understand. The cover compliments the stories, all the stories were different from each other. The title is intriguing and apt.
This was such a brilliant anthology of thirteen short stories. There was a natural escalation in the stories and once you get to Art Class towards the end you’ll see what I mean 😏
My favourites were definitely Enthrallment Syndrome, Art Class, Coulrophobia and Gallows Humor. I keep thinking about how much I would love some of these as extended stories especially Enthrallment Syndrome and Art Class. They were all really good stories and all offered up something different.
I loved that the writing styles were so different in each story too. I often forgot that it was all by one author and not multiple authors.
The first book of a dark trilogy, Symposium of the Reaper: Volume 1 is a horror collection of 13 short stories from an up and coming author, Andrew Adams. These fiendish tales have a little bit of everything that makes horror great - dark humor, murder, mayhem, revenge, paranormal activities, ghoulish creatures, and more. They could easily be episodes of "Tales from the Crypt", "Goosebumps", "Are You Afraid of the Dark?", and "Creepshow". Adams writing transports you to a realm where anything is possible and nightmares lurk all around.
If you enjoy short stories that grab your attention and stay with you after you are done, this is a book for you.
3.5 stars: This bizarro set of short stories starts out with Pavor Nocturnus. The voice that it's written in is hard to get through. For some reason I kept visualizing A Nightmare Before Christmas which was NOT I'm sure what the author intended. So I kept picking the book up and putting it down unable to get past that first story. When I finally did I found it utterly delightful, in a weird, schizophrenic, bizarro, fever dream sort of way. For those like me who enjoy original weird stories, this is one to check out.
An impressive collection of short, horror, stories read with verve and prodigious interest. Coulrophobia and Art Class being personal favourites of mine, the latter more so with its “Dexter-esque” ambiance and execution. To summarise, a respectable gathering of horror stories for a horror fan to get lost in. A few having the potential for expansion into full books of their own, in my opinion. Big thanks to Andrew for reaching out and giving me the chance to listen and review.
This book was the perfect blend of gory horror and dark, twisted humorous horror. Each story was unique and entertaining in it’s own way. This was the perfect read for the fall season because the stories give you the cozy feeling of reading on a cold, crisp night. I look forward to reading more from this author!
I love short story horror collections, and this audiobook definitely nailed the horror/spooky vibe. The background chilling ambiance and the narration were perfect for this collection of 13 stories, each written in a different tone but all giving the grown up Goosebumps/Tales from the Crypt nostalgia. Here for it.
This book was a lot of "fun" to read being that it is horror, but the overall experience was fun. Unique stories and a lot of variety between them. Definitely reminded me of the old days watching Tales From the Crypt
This was the first horror book I’ve ever read and I must admit it was amazing!!! Horror brought to you in 13 different ways. Horror and laughs with similar vibes of the movies Trick R Treat and Voices. A must read for any horror fan. 5/5 loved it!!!!
I have said it time and time again short horror is such an excellent format because the stories can be so concise. This collection of 13 short stories is fantastic. Each one os very different. Some were funny and some were very creepy. I look forward to reading the next two volumes in this series!
Just finished listening to this today! Can I just say wow! This was an incredible collection. I truly enjoyed them all. Trust me there is something in this for everyone. All kinds of horror aspects in this one. Thank you Andrew Adams for a great listen! Keep up the good work!
If you like short macabre stories that hit you in the gut with dread just for the sale of being dreadful. This book is for you. My only criticism is that I felt like the ending of these stories didn’t lead to a big reveal to explain the story which I as a reader look for.
