The hunt for God armor is ramping up as players who want in on the action flock to Dawnshire and the other Champions’ strongholds to try their luck. Between that and Dirk’s agreement with Dead Hunter, his own quest to complete the Graydon’s is temporarily put on hold.
To make matters worse, Dirk is faced with the unsettling realization that Dead Hunter isn’t just a good player—he’s a master. Graydon’s Champion will have his work cut out and then some if he wants to stay alive and come out on top.
As he starts to contemplate a new strategy, the unthinkable happens: King’s League devs upload a patch that doesn’t go as planned, turning the game upside down.
Dirk is now Spyce, and he gets more than a new wardrobe.
King’s League stops for no one. As the group continues to quest through the unfamiliar gamescape in unfamiliar avatars, they have no choice but to dive headfirst into the chaos.
Through it all, unrest stalks the group from within at every turn. Will their friendships survive the glitch. Dirk isn’t so sure. There are still battles to be fought and lessons to be learned, and the most important of all may have nothing to do with the game at all.
This is Book 5 of 6. The preceding books should be read sequentially for the fullest enjoyment and understanding of the storyline. Dirk has trouble with RL government rules, zoning, and regulations curtailing his Ebon Shire venture. It is too much coincidence and very suspicious. Who could be out to get him, and why? Dirk’s RL romance fizzles, Brian’s KL romance kindles. In KL, Dirk’s team is joining up with Dead Hunter to help him get more of Kalypto’s armor and keeping it from Billingsley and Salvatore. A software patch occurs just after a victory and Kalypto’s Mantle is won. This results in a glitch that causes a game-wide swap of avatars that leads to horrible confusion as players, and even mobs are swapped. Dirk gets swapped with Spyce (and is surprised to have boobs), Hunter with Stoneburner, and Rose with Nogg. The team decides to continue the search for armor pieces despite swapped avatars and skills, and mobs that have unexpected powers and forms. Dirk’s RL problems are eventually solved, and the Devs eventually track and fix the source of the glitches. The next book should tie everything together.
The Glitch has changed everything and it also gives some great battle scenes ,and interesting gaming issues that affect a realistic portrayal of what could go wrong with peoples livelihoods as well. Can't wait for the next book as the tension builds up for the final battle.
With a patch added into the game code "King's League" goes crazy characters switch inventory mostly stays intact but anything being used at the time of the mess up is locked down with the avatar. What a mess. Good read.
Keep reading this series. It’s 5 books in and still interesting. I’m ready for the last book. I recommend this book. I’m sorry I’m not more eloquent but it is a great series.
