Rate this book
Escape current events for the moment to a time when life was just a little bit easier, a little bit more explorative, and a little bit more fun and romantic. This book tells a true story exploring the adventurous journey of a young, carefree Pan Am flight attendant who experienced world travel that only a few could ever imagine. The good, the bad, and the ugly truth about what it was like working for one of the largest airlines in the world, Pan Am World Airways, the pioneer of transatlantic flight.

Pan Am After the Glamour Fades: Memoirs of a Flight Attendant 1989-1991, is like no other Pan Am book you may have read in the past. Exposing secrets of an otherwise glamorous career on the surface, Christine escorts us into the obscure annals of humanity through the lens of a young female flight attendant.

The story is set in the late 80’s era, when Pan Am had already reached the pinnacle of its lifespan and success but began its downward spiral into financial ruin. While the rest of the world was embracing the dawn of the digital era and massive wealth accumulation through internet speculation, change was inevitable for Pan Am and its employees. Experience an insider view of the ups and downs of flying as a cabin crew member of the most sought-after airline in the world.

Christine’s story is written in a first-person account, so you will laugh, and probably be moved to tears as she compels you to feel as if you’re right there with her, experiencing events as they were happening. Take a trip to exotic places that most people could only dream of traveling, and meet world-renown celebrity personalities who were an inspiration to Americans of the '70s and '80s. At times she will go deeper than the surface to share her very personal and intimate experiences. Some stories may even surprise and disturb you.

* Thank you so much to Hidden Gem Books for supplying me with an arc of this book! *

I liked that this book was short and sweet. I enjoyed learning about the life of a flight attendant! I’m so glad I got to read this book. I also really appreciated the author’s honesty and authenticity of her life and what she went through. I also think she is really good at writing. Overall I really enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to my mom, who at one point went to flight school but was too short to graduate lol.

For All Those Who Made flying PAN AM a happy memory!

A heartfelt thanks to Christine for the effort in writing this book! For those who flew on PAN AM (1974) the service was, in a word “aces”! But the lives of the attendants, who put any notion of personal financial reward on the back burner, their attentiveness made my flying experience, as a young 19 year old Army private en route to duty on the border of West and East Germany, truly memorable! Thank you!

I thought this would be an interesting read, but I stopped reading this book in Chapter 3, where the author began writing slurs against the Catholic Church and what she thinks Catholics believe. Her suppositions are untrue, and she offended me. I will find something much better to read.
