Mixed with humor, this book shares ways to make your mark in this world so that you will be remembered for years to come.

When I first picked up this book, I had to admit that it really drew me in and made me think about what legacy I wanted to leave that represented my life. I'm still unsure, but this book gave me a lot to think about. There is a wide variety of suggestions, and not all of them have to cost much money.

There are also quite a few stories about how people set up their requests once they passed. That is something that people need to think about, and these stories might help guide you and make you laugh at the same time.

This is a quick read but chock full of useful advice and one that can be read several times over and still discover something new.

We give this book 5 paws up.

An interesting and entertaining exploration of our expiry date which is inevitable but not necessarily predictable. Whether you have forewarning of the event, or it comes out of the blue, Peter Davidson proposes some pre-event planning to make sure your name not only lives on in the hearts and minds of friends and loved ones, but they get a kick out of the proceedings.

In the first part of this manual on Making Your Mark, the author has clearly given great thought to the inventive ways we can make sure we are remembered. This might range from having cards delivered for years to come on meaningful dates to creating a scholarship awarding a few hundred dollars to a deserving student in your name. Perhaps a golf tournament with a quirky price or even writing a book. Certainly being on a social media platform offers infinite possibilities as unless someone makes the effort, your account will live on forever.

There are some suggestions that illustrate that there is more than a little prankster at play here especially in the weeks following your demise, with enigmatic messages alluding to some buried treasure ‘somewhere’ in the garden, or possibly in the safe which is protected with a code that relies on an intimate knowledge of the author’s life.

Peter Davidson has more than enough suggestions, strategies and ingenious ploys to make sure they will never forget your name.

The second part of the book is a blow by blow account of how Tim transforms his prognosis into an opportunity to ensure both his legacy and his name will be cause for celebration. Whilst much loved by family and friends and sorely missed, after the spectacular wake, funeral and after party the tears were not just for sorrow but from laughter.

What a way to go. I have bookmarked some pages and whilst hopefully some time before I need to implement some of the suggestions, there is no time like the present for making a name for yourself.

A thoughtful and entertaining read that comes highly recommended.

As soon as you hit a certain age, you realize more years have passed than what you have left in the bank. How will others remember you when you die? Since we all have to make that “Grand Exit,” as Peter Davidson pens it in his new book, Making Your Mark | Leaving a Legacy | And then… A Grand Exit That’ll Have Their Tongues Waggin’, it’s up to you with what you do with that time going forward. Davidson doesn’t hold back on how you should be remembered by your loved ones; the chief advice is to leave your legacy in some sort of writing: autobiography, memoir, a cookbook, poetry, and a family tree. Giving your name to charities, supplying a treasured record album or coin collection to a grandchild, and naming a star are all creative ideas. But the most unexpected and funny part of this book is Davidson’s musings on the benefits of dying such as no more colonoscopies, no more election cycles, and no more debt! Read this book for a good laugh and to also boldly make the most of the life you have now.

This book by Peter Davidson is a fun, interactive, and do-it-yourself manual on making the most of one's time here on earth. The book is divided into three segments that explore the different stages associated with the importance of living life to the fullest. The title of the book alone gives any prospective reader a sense of the tone which the author decides to approach this topic with. I mean "Making Your Mark, Leaving Your Legacy and Then a Grand Exit That'll Have Their Tongues Waggin" is kind of mouthful but it still prints a good image of the quirky fun nature of the masterpiece in their hands.

This particular topic which is tackled here is usually tackled in a somber and grave manner due to the finality and permanence associated with the end of one's time on this blue marble we all call home. However, Peter Davidson masterfully mixes in a bit of humor into his work which helps to alleviate some of the tension that goes with the topic. He begins by briefly analyzing each segment of his book before going into detailed explanations later on. The general approach of the author gives the impression that one is not being given a lecture but is rather being motivated to do whatever it takes to make sure that one's time here does not go unnoticed. The writing in this book tackles a rather serious issue, but at the same time appears like a playful children's manual and at other times like a transcript of a fun lecturer actively engaging his students in the discussion.

A few notable things about this book are the writer's continuous reminder to readers to always look on the bright side. This is noticeable in the segment 'When You Get "The Word"'. Prime examples of people who always applied this optimistic approach litter the book as a reminder to readers that life can never be perfect but it can still be made to appear as close to perfect as possible. The addition of the fictional story of Timothy A. B. Smythe, a happy-go-lucky man who loved to live life on the edge, rounds up the book nicely and is also a really good laugh. While the story might appear outlandish and cartoonist, it still drives home the point of the whole narrative pretty nicely.

All in all, the book makes for a fun read and kind of gives a little kick in wanting readers to make sure they go out with a "Grand Exit" indeed. A real page-turner that left me smiling till the very end. I'd give it a perfect rating and recommend this book to all readers who have gotten a bit of a grip on life and are looking for the next big step forward.

Making Your Mark | Leaving a Legacy | And then… A Grand Exit That’ll Have Their Tongues Waggin’ by Peter Davidson
Really enjoyed this read for many reasons.
Sheds light on such a dark subject. Author makes it fun to put in place things that will have others laughing and not crying at the services.
Author definitely made it fun and gives you specific ideas (even websites to achieve the goals) of what you can do to lighten the mood at the funeral, etc.
Everything you need to get ready is in this book in a nice format. How to collect information the next of kin will be left with along with hidden treasures.
We have done some planning, paying ahead of time and have a plan for how the others will deal with things, It's all written out with finances included but they can do it their way also.
We just want a simple celebration of life and this book explains what that can look like and about leaving a legacy of the things you have done in your life. They will talk about you and the word will spread, thus making you a legend.
I do have a binder I keep all my treasures in along with letters from others about my work for them. It’s things that many know about me and my charity work. .
There are some things I wrote in the obit for the funeral home calling siblings by their nicknames will bring a smile to so many.
Not going to wait for the word from the doctor, but start doing more things when spouse retires, we hope within a month, while we can still get around well and take our time.
Love scavenger hunt notes, I used to do this when babysitting, kids loved it.
Like the example of the passwords but ours are 20 characters long and no real words. When asked what my fathers middle is, it's NOT his real name but something like pencil. Something nobody would really know.
Like the ideas about how to use things in the house and get them to work when you're gone. Love list of contractors that will work on particular products in your house. Valuable information for everybody.
Enjoyed this book so much, can't wait to read more from this author.

Have you ever wondered whether you will have an impact on the world? An experience that, even after our departure, will live on in everyone’s memory? Than Making Your Mark, Leaving a Legacy, And then… A Grand Exit That’ll Have Their Tongues Waggin, by Peter Davidson, speaks about just that phenomenon! It comes with an abundance of ideas, such as starting a collection you can leave for those close to you or succeeding. Some may even consider you a hoarder during the process but giving your children or grandchildren your prized coin collection, season tickets, or concert tickets could be a tremendous amount of fun. It would really be of great importance for your legacy in the long run. Peter Davidson gives ideas from hypothetical situations and real-life examples to leave your mark.

A section of the book includes the celebration of life party and a final farewell for Timothy A. B. Smythe, leaving everyone who knew Timothy and Timothy himself with a smile. It was the best section of the book. Recognizing that his days were numbered, he organized a “Living Wake” with the support of his friends and family. Then, soon after his passing, a wild celebration honored everything about his life. The coffin was modeled after Timothy A.B. Smythe’s favorite vehicle. The entire ceremony was emotional and touching. This scene would leave you in tears.

A great book is presented here. It does a great job of making light of a very horrible circumstance. The author sets out to help readers prepare for what will eventually come and to make the best of the situation, even presenting ways to make it a time to remember for family and friends that remain. A few noteworthy aspects of this book include the author’s constant encouragement to readers to always see the positive.

Overall, the book is enjoyable to read and offers readers a little push to ensure they make a “Grand Exit.” One of those few keepsakes that kept me happy all the way to the finish. I’d give it a perfect score and suggest this book to everyone who has a handle on life and is searching for the next big step.

The Review

This was a powerful and engaging read. The author did an amazing job of crafting this book in a way that felt both productive and enlightening all at once, while also capturing a tone and writing style that felt at ease and casual as if the book were just a normal conversation between two friends rather than a simple guide from the author to the reader. The themes of life and death were so strong in this book and did a great job of highlighting the message of legacy and what it means to make a mark on this world.

What stood out to meet was the author’s ability to bring a lightness to an otherwise upsetting subject like death. The attitude and confidence that the author has given readers to take the reins of death’s impending embrace and instead find a way of living life to the fullest were amazing to read. From leaving your name on a park or park bench and starting a charity in your name to writing a book or creating a product with your name embedded into the product’s title, the author lays out some great methods of leaving a mark on the world that makes people remember you long after you are gone. Yet it was the author’s ability to find positive ways of dealing with death, both in the time leading up to it and to the actual event itself, that gave a more inspirational tone to one’s demise than the heartbreak it so often brings.

The Verdict

A gripping, thoughtful, and engaging nonfiction, self-help style read, author Peter Davidson’s “Making Your Mark | Leaving a Legacy | And then… A Grand Exit That’ll Have Their Tongues Waggin’” is a must-read book of 2022. A beautiful way of bringing lightheartedness and warmth to an otherwise cold and painful experience, the author not only shows how to lean into death with dignity and power, but how to live life to the fullest and on your own terms, and makes the perfect companion to leaving a legacy that the world will never forget.

Do you ever wonder if you will leave your mark on this world? Something your family and the world will remember you by? Then “Making Your Mark, Leaving a Legacy, And then… A Grand Exit That’ll Have Their Tongues Waggin,” by Peter Davidson is for you!
This quick read will make you think, laugh, and remember and is divided into three sections, each focusing on a phase of your life and how you can leave a legacy in each one. A legacy is made up of one's accomplishments that are remembered and truly touch the lives of others in a meaningful way. Peter Davidson gives so many wonderful ideas to choose from and some great advice to get you started on establishing your very own legacy. After being presented with such creative and doable ideas you will be able to leave a legacy, prepare for your passing and throw a funeral or celebration of life no one will ever forget.
The first section is truly intriguing and you will discover just the perfect way to leave your mark while alive. My new fun list includes donating a bench, writing a book to help aid teachers through emotional wellness implementation, and creating a cookbook for my children of their favorite dishes. I can’t wait to get started!
In the second section ‘When You Get The Word.’ You will realize there are many ways to prepare for your passing that are creative, humorous, fun, or all three. I especially enjoyed hearing practical advice on how to leave password and account information coupled with creative and fun ways to leave it behind for loved ones. I’m definitely doing the fun autobiography scramble of special dates and experiences for those I leave behind.
The Final section will leave you excited dare I say, to plan your exit and keep people talking for years to come.
Remember, It’s never too late to learn how and actually leave your mark. As Peter Davidson states ‘But, remember this, life is like a baseball game-it isn’t over until it’s over.’

Everyone wants to leave a legacy after they die. Everyone wants to be remembered after they take that last one-way trip on Great Beyond Airlines. This book is here to help.

Donate a park bench to your town's main street. Cement or recycled plastic last longer than wood. Get creative with the plaque, don't just say "Donated By . . ." Consider organizing a yearly golf tournament, but don't try to recreate The Masters Tournament. Limit the participants to those whose handicap is above, not below, a certain number (or who ask "What's a handicap?"). Maybe you should start an annual college scholarship, again limited to a certain group of people. How does "The John Smith Memorial Tuba Players Scholarship" sound? Some towns, here in New England, allow residents to paint the blades of the town's snowplows any way they want. Does your town do something like that?

When you have gotten the word from the doctor that your "expiration date" is fast approaching, throw a Celebration of Life party (emphasis on the word "party"). Plan your wake and funeral any way you want. Instead of a generic wake at a funeral home, why not hold it at your favorite bar or pool hall, or other favorite hangout? Hide notes around the house for your loved ones to find after you are gone. First, make sure that they have enough of a sense of humor to appreciate such notes, and not be freaked out by them. The book ends with a description of how one person did his wake and funeral. If this doesn't get the tears flowing, nothing will.

Here is a wonderful book. It does an excellent book at finding humor in a very unpleasant situation. It is very much recommended for everyone; those who are leaving on their final trip very soon, and those who are not leaving anytime soon.

Peter’s book landed on my desk at an emotional time of my life. I had a close friend diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Dare I say it was fate. It certainly was perfect timing. My friend certainly left her mark, went out with a bang and had tongues wagging.
This book covers areas many people are too frightened to say or even think about – that of our inevitable death. Let us face it; if you are alive today, at some point in time you are going to die. How you prepare for your death, how your death happens and how you fill your days before you die, will be the legacy you leave behind.
If you do not read books, then you should be reading this one, you will not regret it. I’m sure you will even buy more to pass along to family and friends.
When our time in this world is over, money & possessions will not mean nothing. It will be the love, kindness and caring we have given to others that we will be remembered for forever.

Most of us reach a point in our lives when we start to wonder what we have done to add to the world. We consider the impression we have made on others (be it big or small) and contemplate what we are going to leave behind.

Making Your Mark, Leaving A Legacy, And Then . . . A Grand Exit That'll Have Their Tongues Waggin' offers readers a range of ideas to help them make their mark. There is a good mix of the serious, socially conscious, and downright funny ideas, ranging from simple and cost-effective, to extravagant and way out there. I particularly like the list of things you will not miss when you are dead and the idea of holding a living wake.

Writing about death is never easy, but Davidson has done so with the right blend of dignity, practicality, and humour.

While serious, tragic stories have their place in our world, having something fun, lighthearted, and sarcastic is a breath of fresh air. From almost the first page, my face was splitting into a smile, and laughter was soon following. Peter Davidson knows how to write in a way that resonates and had me jumping up to grab my husband so I could read out loud hilarious sections. In all honesty, I can't wait to share some of his anecdotes with my middle and high school students. It's the perfect quirky kind of humor that makes me feel life is something to enjoy.

I received this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

‘Making Your Mark’ is a non-fiction book about planning, grief, bereavement, ageing and making your mark while you live in this world and after you leave it. While this is a dark subject matter, the author sheds some light on it. He invites the conversation, the thought and the feeling in the reader’s mind. The literature is written well, and it is apparent that the author is comfortable and knowledgeable about with what he has produced.

What you have at hand is a helpful book, and the added humor helps. The talk of passing, funeral, and celebration of life is not easy for some, but it definitely is something you know will be there when you need it. I recommend this book to planners.

This is an interesting book with great ideas for leaving your mark on the world.

The many suggestions are simple to put into action but rely on financial contributions. From getting a street named after you to have a park seat with your plaque on it. Your name is to be seen and remembered by those using these daily.

Starting a collection you can pass on to your descendants. Some might see this as hoarding, however, leaving jewels of 'coin' collection, 'football' or 'theatre' tickets, could be fantastic fun for your children or grandchildren to enjoy. The Legacy can be as ordinary as a 'record album collection' or Extraterrestrial Legacy, yes you could leave your great-grandchildren a slice of the moon!

Leaving a legacy is what most authors hope to do. I can relate to the time and effort it takes to become a published author. A world full of memories can be passed down through the generations by memoirs or biographies. My mother completed a detailed family history, she enjoyed the research, even travelling to England to read gravestones.

The best part of the book is the final farewell and celebration of life party that left everyone who knew Timothy A B Smythe, including the deceased, with a smile on his face. Knowing that his time was near, this extrovert with the help of his friends and family created a 'Living Wake' and after his death, a heck of a party to celebrate everything about his life. There was on the front of the order of service a questionnaire. Questions that not everyone attending knew the answers to. They'd have to ask the fellow 'mourners' to get the answers. The coffin was a replica of Timothy A.B. Smythe's favorite car. The whole ceremony was touching and heartfelt. The procession out of the church stopped at Tim's watering hole and they toasted to his life. What a wonderful testament to a life well lived.

Peter Davidson has created a unique book to pose a simple question. How do you want to be remembered?
