Uzziah: Mountain Man: The Making of a Mountain Man: A Twenty-Fourth Mountain Man Adventure
The twenty-fourth “ Mountain Man” adventure has arrived!
Uzziah and Immanuel took Chadwick down to the settlement so he could meet Standing Bear and her boys. They were having a good visit when Uzziah discovered Willet, Leah’s husband, had tuberculosis. He knew Willet would never get better there in the mountains, so they make a trip with him to Nuevo Mexico.
On the way, they rescued some settlers who were being burned out by the Apache. One of the warriors fought with Chadwick and he wasn’t much older than the boy. Chadwick couldn’t bring himself to kill the boy, so he knocked him out and sent him back to his tribe.
The Apache were horrified that a warrior had so much coup counted on him. Luckily, the boy was the son of the medicine man who convinced the chief to send him back to the whites to spy on their crazy ways.
They made it to Taos, where Chadwick and a girl get involved, much to the chagrin of her pa, who held a deadly grudge against the boy.
The girl’s father, seeking revenge, tried to kill Chadwick.
On their way back to the mountains they visited with Augustus Fleming, an old lawyer who helped Immanuel years ago.
The old man had a strange request from the boys, but because they owed him, they helped. Will the boys ever learn, or will they keep stepping into the piles that others leave for them? Danger abounds as they go forward without thinking of the consequences, and in the end, everyone has to pay!
