Keep your tissues handy!
As Lavinia is still reeling from the death of her young husband, she has to also come to terms with the fact that, unbeknownst to her, he had gambled away their home! The suggestion offered to her by the bishop is a marriage of convenience, in name only, to Noem Witzel, who had recently gained custody of his sister’s children after her sudden passing. She could live in his home and care for the children in exchange for a place to live. They were friends when they were younger, they could continue to live as friends, just in the same house, right? Or could they????
I really loved this sweet Amish story. I enjoyed learning much I didn’t know about the Amish way of life. It’s much the way we want our communities or neighborhoods to be…where we help each other out, and are there when someone is in need. Where truth is given and expected and kindness is extended without thought. I loved how they faced adversity, by leaning on God and on one another. I struggled to read through my tears more than once! Such a feel good story!! ❤️❤️
