A letter to Rod Stewart resulting in a Cinderella birthday for her daughter sowed the seeds of New York Times and USAToday bestselling author Jean Brashear's writing career. A lifelong avid reader, at the age of forty-five with no experience and no training, she decided to see if she could write a book. It was a wild leap that turned her whole life upside down, but she would tell you that though she's never been more terrified, she's never felt more exhilarated or more alive. She's an ardent proponent of not putting off your dreams until that elusive 'someday'—take that leap now.
Over fifty published novels later, the five-time RITA finalist and RTBookReviews Career Achievement Award winner has accumulated a whole passel of war stories to swap and loves nothing better than talking writing and books with readers and fellow writers.
And she'd still take that leap, war wounds and all.
These are all standalone stories but if read in order it’s nice to follow up with previous characters.
Texas Hearthrob 3.5* - Not the light read that you might expect from the book title. A struggling woman gets unwanted (but needed) help from a movie star. Not that she knows he is famous because a recent tragedy has him in disguise. Both are hiding secrets until a vicious man from Raina’s past, nearly destroys them both. This story deals with addiction and a troubled childhood and as such is on the dark side.
Texas Healer 4* - Two warriors driven to practice medicine, both with damaged bodies and deep emotional scars. Together they make each other whole. A good read.
Texas Protector 4.5* - Twelve years after their first traumatic meeting, Alex and Jade find themselves working together. Jade has always hero worshipped the man who saved her life but is not amused to find that he still sees her a fifteen year old in need of protection. Sparks fly between them but anger is not the only emotion…
Texas Deception 5* - Franny has known loss after loss but it doesn’t stop her being a woman who embraces those in need. She is determined that the small town which she has made her home will not die but will flourish, if only she can get through to the landlord. What she doesn’t know is the man she is falling for is lying to her and her heart is going to be crushed once again.
Texas Lost 5* - A hot headed cop and a police psychologist lock horns but the steam between them quickly gets out of hand. Their feelings create problems when there are forces out to destroy Saint Valdez.
Texas Wanderer 5* - Two very different people, a hotelier creating a one of a kind 5* bed and breakfast place even whilst her past is a cloud hanging over her, and the rolling stone photographer who needs the wilderness to breathe. A very family orientated story with a HFN ending.
Texas Bodyguard 4.5* - A movie star with her heart broken is targeted by an undercover cop. Things were never going to end well when she finds out but worse is to come when she falls into the clutches of an unstable woman… Would have loved this story to have an epilogue.
Texas Rescue 5* - Much against his better judgment Gabriel Coronado finds himself drawn towards Jilly Sullivan after he rescues her one evening. Despite wanting nothing to do with people he finds himself embroiled in her causes and looking out for her. A lovely story.
I loved all 8 books in this series. The characters were all people who could be friends and every one would certainly provide support and help if someone needed it. Each person struggled to be independent while finding their role in an extraordinarily family and world.
Usually I enjoy a few stories in a series like this, but I can honestly say that every story captured me, even those whose story was hard to hear about.
intertwined lives of a family both related and brought together in love. Each story is a totally unique love story. Different lives, passion, heartbreak and healing. All coming back to a strong United family. Each story is a novella and I care you to try and put them down. The author writes with compassion, passion, sensitivity in the creation of her characters. And brutAl honesty of the way life is. I look forward to reading more of her books.
Once I started the first book, I couldn’t put it down. Ms. Brashear’s characters, her rich emotion, vibrant description, plot lines I couldn’t have imagined… I wanted to be part of the story! Each subsequent story fills in the after story from the previous books so you feel like you’ve known this family for years.
Thoroughly delightful and highly recommended. Great characters in each book, especially well fleshed out and memorable. Only complaint is that the proofreading needs some help in Book 6. The mistakes kept detracting from the storyline.
Each one meshed so well with the others. Hard to stop reading. Interesting how experiences in one helped in another. I can see this being one I'll reread.
Brilliantly written could not put it down , as previous people have said she chose her subjects and families chosen with the utmost care, and every story had its own individuality. BRILLIANT
More family stories from a wonderful author. Stories centering on a couple different families that end up all connected to each other one way or another. There is so much to love with these stories, they make you feel lots of different feels. I don't want to give any spoilers here, it is difficult not to though. This is a fairly new author to me but since I read one series I purchased two more of her box sets. I hope you enjoy her books as much as I do. She has become another of my auto click authors. Sit down and share the lives and loves of them all. Laugh and cry along with them. Every story has a happy ending with no cliff hangers. Great books Ms. Brashear Lone Star Lovers Boxed Set Books 1-8
